Vernon Davis traded to DEN. (1 Viewer)

Here's the actual deal: SF is trading Vernon Davis and a 2016 7th-round pick to Denver for a 6th in 2016 and a 6th in 2017, per sources.

Fantasy aside, I'm happy for Davis. He's at the tail-end of his career and was looking to be engulfed by the dumpster fire that is SF. Now he's on a legit SB contender. Good stuff.

If it was the Manning of old, I would be ecstatic. Week 8 there was improvement but he still threw 0 Tds and had 1 int against GB who lost both Shields and the other starting cornerback. Most of the game GB was throwing rookie corners out there. And they seemed content on running even more with Hillman and CJ.

The Broncos have a different winning formula than we've seen from the past. 2015 it's

1. Defense

2. Run the ball

3. Kick 50 yard+ FGs with McManus.

In the past it was

1. Throw 35+ times per game and score 35 points per game

2. Go for it on 4th down instead of kicking FGs

3. Run the ball

We shall see.

Worth pointing out Denver just put a second left tackle on season-ending IR (Ty Sambrailo, who joins Ryan Clady). Vernon is one of the better blocking TEs in the NFL, and I'm sure Denver was thinking about that as much as his receiving prowess when they acquired him.

This was a great trade for all parties. DEN gets a key piece of offensive talent that fits their offense style and situation.

With Peyton already preferring to throw to TEs, and recently struggling to deliver the ball deeper downfield, a still-talented 2X pro bowl TE like Davis will absolutely open up a lot more routes both underneath and down the seams for Peyton. Davis is a great outlet for Peyton's deteriorating arm, and Davis will also finally be happy on a playoff-bound team.

Great trade, Elway.

(Apropos of nothing, Vernon Davis gets more props from me for being one of the only NFL players I've seen on THE LEAGUE who could somewhat act.)

Its like deja vu all over again....Elway is implementing the same plan used to finally get him a ring....running game and D.

i think VD will help the running game more than passing game, though Peyton's soft wobbly balls will be easier for VD to chest catch than Kap's hard balls. Dude was a great 49er. :suds:

Owen Daniels is a nice player and Virgil Green has been criminally underutilized, but neither of those guys can stretch the field or operate in the Red Zone the way JT could. Most people know already that Peyton's decline last season coincided with the loss of JT, who was more important to this offense than I think anyone, myself included, would care to admit. Davis, even at 31, can still stretch the field. This is a great addition and I look for him to have an immediate impact: he'll be a nice safety blanket for Peyton if nothing is open downfield, he'll be able to stretch the field and open things up underneath, his blocking skills will help the run game & help keep Peyton upright, and I think most importantly he'll have a huge and immediate impact in the Red Zone. I love this acquisition. I think even at 31, he's such a freak athlete that he brings a very similar skillset to the team as JT did, with the added bonus of being a willing and capable blocker.

That's just wrong man.

Davis doesn't have good hands, and he's not really a safety blanket, find holes in the zone type of possession receiver. He is (or at least was) a great run blocker with great straight line speed.

Hi! And I'm soft, wobbly balls Peyton Manning.

VD Owners don't get your panties in a rise VD will not = fantasy gold. As ATB said he will be a run blocker just like before. Denver's running game is going to now improve and CJ>Hillman.

Boom! Elway just dropped the mic!
By adding a TE who won't do anything for that abysmal offense? :lmao: Virgil and Daniels are still better options than Davis. Elway could trade for vintage Manning and they still wouldn't beat Brady and the Patriots this season in the playoffs.

Think you're very mistaken. Logically, you have a qb who is very cerebral and wants to get the ball out quickly and whose arm now suggests the short play is a better option than the long play. Add to it that Manning has always thrived when he has had talented tes. I don't see anything to suggest that Vernon isn't going to be in play.
