I've got a 10-teamer draft this weekend and I MUST have Gates or this guy. I'm a big believer in stud TE theory and I see a big drop off after these two. I'd take Gates in the third if VD did not exist, but that's not the case.

That said, how high do I have to go? Round 5? Definitely no later than 6, but do I need to jump a round early to make it happen?

I will be absolutely disgusted if I end up with neither guy.

BTW, I'm in the 4 slot.

Where are you guys who've already drafted seeing this guy go?

In a PPR, 5 or 6 isn't unreasonable. Non-ppr, later.

0.5 PPR

could someone please explain to me the hype over Davis?

I just don't get it. Now he is better than proven vets like Heap?

I'm still scared of him in redraft and would prefer Cooley or Witten. Its just not worth the risk until hes shown more.

Potential -With Heap you know you're getting 6-7 points a game, maybe one or two games where he gets 10.Davis has shown much more potential than that. If you want consistency, go with Heap. He's as solid as they come.If you want a difference maker, but with risk, go for Davis.

I'm a big Davis believer, but I still wouldn't take him the 5th of a redraft.

In a dynasty, I'd pay a premium, but in a redraft, you just never know. I'd take him if I can get him cheap (8th/9th maybe) but I woldn't overpay for him when guys like Heap, Shockey, Gonzo are out there.

He's supposed to be a huge part of the offense, ala Gonzo and Gates. He started hooking up with Alex Smith late in the season. But, yes, its only potential at this point.

In dynasty.... your lucky if u get him in the 6th

I currently do not own VD in any Dynasty league

In non PPR i have him as # 8 just dont get the hype

Ill take Gonzo Heap or even Winslow before him, looks like he wont be on any of my teams this year

I took him this week as the 6th TE off the board at around overall pick 98 (was late 9th round in a 10 team league). I wasn't planning on jumping for him earlier, but having my max of RB/WR and a QB on board at that point, he seemed like a reasonable value. This is a very screwey drafting league though full of guppie play. One guy has 3 DEF at that point and other strange drafting behavior abounds.

Heap (or Cooley) are the safe picks. Davis is bigger, faster, more intimidating, has fine hands and will be the focus of the passing game in SF. He has been a beast in training camp. He had rookie issues last year, but 200 yards in 4 games recovering from a broken leg at the end of last year. He looks and smells like Gates the year he broke out, but he is high risk and high reward.
