Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (5 Viewers)

Been stuck in a rut lately. I've started several games and not gone back to them yet (witcher, Uncharted 3, binary domain, Bioshock infinite, saints row 3, bastion, tomb raider (though that's because it keeps crashing in the early part of the game), walking dead). I have this mental block that if I'm not entertained in the first hour, I'm having trouble getting excited to sit down and play again.

I actually started playing minecraft with the galacticraft mod but it got corrupted as MC often does so now I'm too bored to start a new server again.

Just in a blah mode lately with gaming.
I often feel the same way and actually love to replay games that I have already beat because I know what to expect. I often have to force myself to play new games and with about 20-30 titles in the to be played pile, I am failing at that. Now a days I don't get to play nearly as much single player games as I used to because Dainty loves playing any cooperative game. So, right now we have a solid rotation of Minecraft Payday 2, Diablo III, and Gears 3. If I ever feel like not playing a co-op game and am burnt out then it is tough. Insein, maybe step back and play some bored games or watch a tv series you have been intending to follow. About 6 months back I hit a burn out phase on gaming and got really into bored games. They are a nice addition to my entertainment stable that I get more friends/family involved with.

Burn out, it sucks.Hard to break out of the funk without just taking an extended break. I've had success in the past playing competitive games with friends (hard to coordinate friends), playing a creative game solo or playing a nostalgic game (either a reboot or retro). I got burned out after playing Path of Exile for like 200 hours last two months, have since been playing the 3DS version of Fire Emblem and I went back to playing Dawn of War: Soulstorm and Blood Bowl.

If you enjoy modded Minecraft, Hexxit is really fun if you like more RPGish adventure mods, whereas Galicticraft is good if you like the building aspect more (when it isn't crashing.)
Yea I haven't had this deep a burnout in awhile. The only game I've beaten lately is Jet Set Radio with my 3 year old kids (they like the colorful graphics and music). Then of course played all 3 Mass effects from april till June last year. Other than that nothing. Need to tough one out though. Maybe a slump buster.
i dont really get video game fatigue except for specific games. One game i have zero desire to finish is GTA5. Ive played it for like 10 hours then quit to play Arkham Origins and now lego Marvel. Both games are much more fun the GTA5 IMO. I keep saying ill get back to it eventually but wouldnt be shocked if i never did. First time i ever remember not completing a purchased game

Anyone played Spec Ops: The Line? It's on Steam sale now for $7.49. The reviews say it is great story telling but has some flaws with the combat system and a weak MP mode.

I seldom play MP Is it worth playing the single player campaign?
I thought it was pretty boring. Dubai as a set-piece was cool, but it was the same duck for cover, pop up and fire game for 7 or so hours.
the story made this game. the mechanics were stale, but not enough to make it boring.

this has never happened to me. what does that mean? i think i should be concerned.

games I have played through at least 3 times and have never completed:

- Final Fantasy 9

- Final Fantasy 10

- Xenoblade Chronicles

- Skyrim

- Bioshock

- Borderlands 2

- GTA 4

My main problem is that whenever I go back to a game I never finished I feel the need to start over rather than pick up where I left off.

Recently took up Skyrim again and it was looking promising. I had a house, wife and 2 adopted kids, done all the thief and assassin guild quests and about half of the main story. Then Starbound came out.

Videogame burn out is no different than any other burn out. You become too saturated with video games and they cease to be as enjoyable as they typically would be if you were in a normal state of mind.

From personal experience, I've had the most success bucking the trend by completely breaking the mold in my gaming habits by either taking a break or playing something completely different from what I would regularly play. For example, in my free time the majority of games I play are solo RPGs or RTSs. So when I become burned out on gaming, or more specifically the games I typically would play I have to play something completely different, usually either a really competitive game if I can round up some friends to play with, or a really creative game. Some exceptions, card games, roguelikes and nostalgic games.

i've been playing the crap out of Sid Miers: Pirates!

I played the crap out of the old one back in the old days. This one is an improvement in almost all areas, except the dancing. I don't enjoy the dancing.

Playing Arkham City. Love it. Awesome game.
Did you play the first one? I liked it far better.
Yes I did. Asylum was great too but pretty much all of the control mechanics are significantly improved in City. Everything is moves more fluidly and the textures are noticeably improved as well.

I like the story in City just as much and I love that they worked in so many more characters, including Catwoman as an independent playable character. The addition of legitimate sidequests are also a bonus because, aside from the Riddler trophies, I thought Asylum was a pretty much a linear story.

My only complaint is that the main story is awfully short. I got it on Steam sale for under $7 but even so I was hoping for at least 20 hours of game play on the main story, while in reality it barely cracks 15.

Does anyone else think that Bruce Wayne in City looks a lot like Archer?

oops.

I got the Banner Saga over the weekend. Can't stop playing it. It's an adventure + tbs game set in a Norse/Viking like environment. It tries to give the illusion of choice, but I've found the overarching game thread to be pretty linear. It's short (probably one full play through in 10 to 20 hours), and I found myself wanting much more. I like the game play, simple enough but with enough nuance to keep it interesting for a while. The artwork and soundtrack are fantastic, it's like playing through a Ralph Bakshi animated film.

I don't understand why all these people who play eve with such valuable #### don't go straight to ebay with it.
Because the street value of currency is overstated just as the street value of drugs in busts is usually overstated. Selling in tiny parcels at market costs might be worth $200k but of course you would have to find a lot of demand which probably isn't there, driving the cost down.

Last I remember a PLEX (1 month membership, approx $15) was 700 million isk in game. If this guy is right, this guy just lost 13.3 trillion isk. LoL

Kotaku article on the Eve battle: link

One week after this monstrous galactic throwdown in EVE Online, the sci-fi MMO is the scene of another humongous space battle—and it's all because of a missed bill payment.

Because this is EVE, the intrigue leading up to one of these rumbles is often more entertaining than the fight itself—especially when it gets so large that time itself has to slow down to account for all the ships in the area of operation. According to an email EVE Online sent out today, more than eight Titans—these are the real bad mofos of the EVE fleet, capable of equipping a superlaserhave already been destroyed in the Battle of System B-R5RB. The belligerents are, once again, the N3 Coalition and the Cluster#### Coalition (CFC), with other alliances assisting both sides.

What touched off this battle? A missed bill payment, basically.

"Earlier today an alliance in the N3 coalition missed a bill payment for the system where Pandemic Legion is staging and storing their fleets," writes EVE. "This missed bill caused sovereignty to drop across the system leaving the station vulnerable to capture. Seizing the opportunity, the CFC (Goonswarm Federation, Razor Alliance, Black Legion and the Initiative) and Russian Coalition (Solar Fleet, Darkness of Despair and Against ALL Authorities) captured the station."

You might remember that CFC got its collective ### handed to it back on Jan. 18, when it decided to tangle with Pandemic Legion's "Wrecking Ball" fleet down yonder in System HED-GP. N3/Pandemic sent aforesaid Wrecking Ball into B-R5RB to retake the station, although at a smaller strength. CFC brought in "a large contingent of Dominixes, Dreadnaughts and Titans," and decided it was time to play the Feud!

Here is my favorite part of the email: "The fight is ongoing with both sides banking on their European, and soon North American, players returning from work to bolster their forces."

You can follow it all in this Twitch livestream but I warn you, those who say EVE is like playing a spreadsheet won't be proven wrong here. With time dilation in high gear, this is not so visually arresting—except for the hilarious news crawl. (Noting, as of press time, more than 2 trillion ISK in materiel loss).

It'll be left to the victors to write history and when they do, we hope they do it with style.
:lmao:

Bad news for football game fans: http://kotaku.com/ea-sports-and-the-nfl-still-have-a-number-of-years-lef-1511035781

EA Sports and the NFL "still have a number of years left on our agreements" to exclusively develop and publish video games, EA CEO Andrew Wilson told investors. "We have a number of games in development with the NFL" license, he added. Reports had suggested EA's license to make NFL games would expire this year.

LD
So much for any chance of a good football game then.

Although I am not into the game I think the EVE stuff is fascinating on both a social and anthropological level.
I've always found the concept intriguing but am not a fan personally of the execution. I find the game unplayable, but have found similar examples enjoyable (Star Wars Galaxies.)

Just a reminder for those still kicking it on the PS3 and 360, Best Buy has a buy 2 get 1 free this week. If you are still getting classics and stuff you can get some games real cheap. They have about 100 games at 19.99 so about $14 a game. If you are in their gamers club you get 20% off new games so it takes your 2 games down to $15.99 each and the 3rd free. 3 games, $33 or 11 bucks a game. Earlier today Tomb Raider was even listed at $9.99

Just finished BioShock Infinite. WTF!? I feel like they shoehorned 75% of the plot into the last 5 minutes of the game.

And is it just me, or does the ending make zero sense? How the heck can he be both Dewitt and Comstock in the same reality? What an f'd up ending

Agreed 100%. I spent about 45 seconds contemplating the ending before deciding that it just sucked. Too much of it just seemed thrown together at the very last moment.

I gave up on this one. I wanted to like it, I wanted to finish it, but it just got way too tedious and boring. I'd guess I'm about halfway through (after they go back in time for the gun dude). Just not a "fun" game.

I am about 30 hours into Dragons Dogma and just hit the point I get to in these enormous RPG games where I realize just how massive the world is and that I am barely a 1/5th of the way through.

Yeah, fun game, but I prefer Skyrim's story. I just get sort of creeped sometimes about the pawns. They keep calling me master, and if they die, i just go get new ones.

Fallout3 and New Vegas are two of my favorite games. Even coming back to them and starting a new character is fun. Just reading NCC's post about the Wasteland Survival Guide makes me want to pick up FO3 and make a dash towards Megaton.
I can see this as being the kind of game that you come back to after beating it. I have had a couple of games I played so much I had every area memorized and most of the dialogue as well. This has that kind of feel to me so far, We'll see I guess.
I have hundreds and hundreds of hours in both FO3 and New Vegas. Easily my favorite series.

I was in a videogame rut for a while. Still kind of am. I've started at least 10 different games over the past several months and couldn't get in to any of them. I did just happen to stumble on to a game called "the last of us" which was hands down been the best thing I've played since skyrim. I'd recommend it. It is a quick play through, but well worth the 20 hours you'll put into it.

Just finished Dishonored. Fun little game - it reminded me of Dues Ex, a game with some really cool/innovative aspects, weighed down with some just-average execution and notable but not fatal flaws. Solid B+.

Well from my limited understanding of infinite + burial at sea...

To make a long post shorter, because paradoxes. Most of the story was somewhat understandable from just the core game, but after playing burial at sea the big picture becomes more apparent.

The Booker you play in Infinite IS the Booker who will literally become Comstock. Again, paradoxes (like Terminator levels of paradoxes.) So by killing Booker then you end the cycle of Dewitts showing up in Columbia to kill future Booker (Comstock), severing that timeline.

In the main game, it would have you believe that killing Booker during his baptism would mean that every Comstock reality would cease to exist. The problem however is that Booker's true nature is that he is Comstock, even if he doesn't change his name and create Columbia he will always be a monster. So it mattered very little that the Comstock realities ceased to be, because the Booker's from the rest of the multi-verse are innately just as bad.

Post infinite, the Twins and Elizabeth have one goal, killing every Booker they judge to have no redeeming qualities (which seems to be all of them.)
All that said, I love the concepts of sixth dimensional travel and reality paradoxes but I think the story and execution were pretty poor and was not a fan of the environments. Overall not a bad game, but it definitely suffers from its predecessors setting the bar a little too high.

The bolded is almost exactly what I thought the first time I saw the artwork for this on KS, and I intend to play the hell out of it. Hopefully it delivers.

tESO
I had checked out on this title when I saw the WoW like graphics. Apparently that has changed right? Is this another WoW clone?
It doesnt look anything like wow whatsoever. It looks like Skyrim/Oblivion. But it does play like a MMO.

And the beta just recently synched its heavier graphic model with the last beta, so anything before this January wasnt an optimized graphical representation.

Here is a game play video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfpYnehJ5TE#t=131 talking about grouping.

I thought I was done with MMO's but this looks very good graphic wise. Has anyone played this yet?

Elder Scrolls Online now doing pre-order (with special offers added in)...

:o

And here I thought my summer would be full of sunshine and books.

I watched some footage of TESO and it looks great, but I cannot see getting back on the treadmill again. It is impossible to do an MMO part-way and feel like you get the experience and my time is so limited as it is. :(

Oooooh, ESO will be on consoles...

eta - Is this going to be a $15 a month type thing?

eta2 - yeah looks like $15 a month

New gens only. Normally this would push me to PS4, but I already shifted that money to something else (half sleeve tattoo). Maybe my summer will be full sunshine after all.

Has anyone played this yet?
I'm in the closed beta.

Ive done 3 weekend sessions. Awaiting the next one. I have 4 or 5 friends who are guildmates in other games who are playing beta (for a weekend or two).

Surprisingly enough every single one of them plans on playing at this point. Its nice that TESO has its own take on the MMO structure.
