Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (3 Viewers)

Teaser for Frictional's (makers of the original Amnesia) new game, SOMA.

It appears to be a Sci-fi Horror game, not since System Shock and eventually the disappointment of the Dead Space franchise has a Sci-fi Horror game intrigued me more.

They are releasing more stuff every day in a similar fashion, as sort of a classified/redacted information. Looking forward to ####ting my pants.

A new online CCG just went into beta and for the next two days anyone can get into the beta.

Infinity Wars - beta code is TWITCH

Website is currently getting slammed with heavy traffic but when the page loads create an account, then log in and in the invitation field enter the code TWITCH to gain access to the beta, you can then download the game client.

Full disclosure I've never played this game before, just heard great things about it and since entry is limited to the next two days I thought I should spread the word. But I'm a huge CCG fan and one of the many things of praise I've heard is that you can easily play the game without dropping a dime on it.

Will play the beta tonight and report my findings.

Edit:

Pleasantly surprised at how fun this game is - CCGs, especially free or cash shop CCGs are typically unplayable or not worth playing but I played this for 3 hours last night and had a blast even better they practically just give you cards. I played through 3 of the campaigns (there is one for each of the 6 factions) once you're half way through a campaign they give you a starter deck of that faction as well as a reward for winning each mission (8 per campaign). As you rank up you also gain rewards and every game you earn in game currency that you can spend on packs.

Has a mix of nice mechanics a few of which are unique that combine for a fresh CCG experience.
Fantastic graphics and love the variations in themes. MUCH more interesting than Magic which has gotten trite to me. Gonna have to dig deeper to see huge game mechanics improvements though.... Not seeing anything too clever yet.

This has me intrigued. I am looking forward to finding out more. The quality of the human renders is impressive, the facial features and body movement is top notch.

First gameplay trailer for SOMA

Definitely has an Amnesia vibe to it, looking forward to more teasers.

Oh god, just came across this gem from back in March.

Satire on David Cage's contributions to the game industry.

How many emotions is people?

Employee just got me Saints Row IV for Bosses Day (didn't know that was a thing). Putting aside whether or not it is appropriate to let an employee drop 50 bones on a gift, I took it for a 45 minute test drive (the witcheer 2 is my "active" game) and really like it so far. No significant leaps in mechanics but the game play seems solid, the style is cool and I just love this games sense of humor (Keith "Mother #######" David!!!). Seriously this game had me literally laughing out loud 3-4 times in the first 45 minutes.

Looking forward to this one.

I enjoyed it a great deal.

GameStop is having a B2G1F sale on used games this weekend. With the new job, move, etc, I really haven't been paying attention to this thread, or games in general. I am thinking of getting some games in the six months to one year old range. You know, not to old, not to new. Don't want expensive games. Looking for ones in that $15-$25 range. I've played RPGs (like Skyrim, Kingdoms of Amalur), Action (LoU, Lara Croft, Dead Rising), not in to shooters.

If you had a choice of any three games regardless of age, what would they be? Games I saw that I might be interested in. Dead Rising 2, Far Cry 3, Batman games, Last Light: Metro, Dead Space 3. I guess what I am really looking for is a free form, 3 game HoF lineup. And I'm just to out of touch to come up with a good one on my own.

Far Cry 3 for certain. No matter what, get this one.

If you like stealth games (with some action thrown in), Dishonored is great.

For an RPG, Divinity 2 or Two Worlds 2 are both pretty decent.

Path of Exile, an absolutely amazing action RPG/Dungeon Crawler/Item picker upper simulator officially releases on the 23rd. Its free to play and will be getting an official STEAM release.

The new ladder season will begin on the 23rd as well so if you wanted to play on an even playing field this is the best opportunity you will have for the next four months (when the next ladder season will begin).

Those who have played PoE in the past, the official release will include a massive content patch - it looks like its gonna be awesome.

I have a Steam code for the new Batman Arkham Origins if anyone wants to make an offer. Not looking for the sky here, but to defer the cost of what I purchased to get it. :)

NVidia card? I'm still looking to get one that'll include it, otherwise I'd make an offer.

i got my shipping notification for Arkham Origins yesterday. My plan is to not tell my son, then let him open the game and have the first playthrough. Instant Father's Day cred.

Actually I really just want to see the look on his face, because he forgot that I pre-ordered it back at the beginning of the year.

Edit: I am hoping to put off playing it until Extra-Life on November 2nd. Then I might be able to play the whole story without stopping.

I'm holding off on it because of Battlefield 4's release next week. Like you, when I start playing it, I won't stop until I finished.

Probably gonna get into that new Batman sometime today.
Seems to be pretty much exactly like the first two. I never really get into these games because I get stuck on some stupid part where I can't figure out where to go or what to do. Happened right after the first level where I beat Black Mask in the execution room. Mission objective complete... ok, now what?... just stuck in this room.

Hopefully the new Assassins Creed is better. Gonna give that a shot sometime this weekend probably. I haven't played any of the others though, so maybe I'll do that first.

Lego Marvel looks amazing. I plan on getting that for my "son" for XMas
Is that a euphemism for your penis?
Confusing why he only has "son" in quotes. Either he is your son or he's not or you're making one up to buy the game for.
Or maybe it's not really just for his son.
I think "for my son" would be the way to convey that
:lmao: ####in pit nickers. Yes thats what i meant

Microsoft’s Games with Gold program just went perennial: If you’re an Xbox 360 owner as well as a $60 a year Xbox Live Gold or Gold Trial period member, that means Microsoft’s two-free-games-a-month program won’t end in December, as originally planned, but live on, indefinitely.

Games with Gold launched as a limited-time deal in July to “thank … Xbox Live Gold members.” It was supposed to dead-end this December. But Microsoft says the response was so positive, with gamers clocking “more than 120 million hours played with Games with Gold titles,” that it decided to make it permanent

I have really enjoyed it. I have definitely played some games I wouldn't have like Fable. Glad they are going to keep it going.

One game that nobody will mention but is ridiculously fun is Earth Defense Force 2017 - it's a shooter, but you're killing giant alien bugs - it's corny, goofy, "no blood" fun. You can get it used for about $5 (the original is MUCH better than the second one.)
:goodposting:

I finally gave this one to my son Friday. We are having a blast playing it together. Simple enough for even me to pick up quickly. Good stuff.

Same here (only with Plus instead of Gold). It's very easy for pretty good games to fall off one's radar or to have stuff that you just never get around to playing. Having some of these titles thrust back into your consciousness is a great way to go back and experience stuff that you missed the first time. I've gotten a lot of value of the freebies.

Yeah I have definitely gotten my monies worth with all the freebies. I hadn't picked up any of the Halo games past Halo 2 and got Halo 3 free this month. My wife loves Halo so she is looking forward to playing.

Here's a side-by-side comparison of Assassins Creed on PS3 vs. PS4. I expect we'll be seeing quite a few of these over the next few weeks. Now granted, these are cut-scenes as opposed to gameplay, and the PS4 version does clearly look better, but it's not the kind of leaps-and-bounds improvement that is going to going to absolutely compel somebody to run out and buy a next-gen console.

I'm completely fine with writing this one off as a cross-gen launch title that just never got the benefit of any sort of serious next-gen optimization. We all should have known to expect some of these. And I'm not a huge fan of the AC franchise anyway -- I skipped Brotherhood and AC3 and I had no plans to buy Black Flag -- so it's not like I'm disappointed in this one particular title. But I will be disappointed if this ends up becoming a pattern in the coming months.

In other words, when I pop in the original Resistance or Motorstorm, they both look pretty grubby by today's standards. I get that some launch and near-launch titles will also probably not age well either, but I do expect a bigger step up than what these videos show.

Last Gen's leap was HD

This generation is (hopefully) going to eliminate excessive loading times and allow for farire things going on- on screen as well as tons of small details.

Exactly what I was thinking.

So I have a pile of games to choose from. What should I play?

Battlefield 3

Assassin's Creed II

Witcher 2

God of war 1, 2, 3

BFBC 2

Saints Row III

Fable III
Resident Evil 5

Rainbow Six 1 & Vegas

Killzone 2 &3

I haven't played Witcher or Fable. Out of the ones I know, I would go with either SR3 or AC2. SR3 had a pitch-perfect level of general goofiness to it that I haven't seen anyplace else.

Prior to Saints Row the Third my last experience with an open world mayhem game was GTA Vice City which I found to be mediocre at best. I really had no interest in revisiting the genre. But I picked up Saints Row the Third this year during the Steam sale and I absolutely loved it. It has solid game play mechanics, a fun story line and is wicked funny and irreverent. Someone gave me Saints Row IV for my B-Day and I have only played about an hour of it but I probably spent about 45 minutes of that hour just laughing (Keith ###### ####### David! :lmao: ) I am really looking forward to picking it up in earnest.

The Witcher 2 is what I am currently playing. The style, graphics, world design, story and voice acting are much improved than TW1 (story and voice acting really improved as TW1 developed but it started out as bad as it could possibly be) but I found TW2 initially very frustrating because they entirely reworked the combat mechanics making them hugely complicated to do much more than button mash/hack-n-slash. The elegant timing based combat system of TW1 seemed to be entirely dismissed. HOWEVER as the game is progressing it is becoming increasingly important to plan out your combat because bull rushing and hacking away will get you killed in a hurry. So, much like TW1 and it's terrible story telling and voice acting in Act I, TW2 seems to be greatly improving in combat mechanics as the game progresses. I am really enjoying it at this point. Geralt of Rivia is one of the more interesting video game characters I have played.

I love Bad Company. I wish they would bring those guys back. SR3 is fun as well...way over the top.

Fable wasn't bad. I thought it would be a kiddy game but it was fairly mature. I am currently messing with both Witcher 2 and Vegas. I prefer Witcher 2 over Vegas so far.
