Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (7 Viewers)

On a related note, I ended up buying MGS5 digitally.

Question for you next-gen guys - now that we're almost two years into next gen and decent day-one digital delivery for every release, how do you feel about digital delivery now?

After a rocky start (bought Thief, didn't really like it, and felt kinda burned because I couldn't trade it in), I've really come to like it. Not having to insert the disc, and having all of your games right there ready to boot up, is a bigger convenience than I thought it would be, and is worth the tradeoff of not being able to resell a game. I don't buy everything digitally, but I will for games I'm almost certain I'll love. Plus, no going to the store or waiting for the UPS guy, etc.

I didn't think I'd like it, but I do.
Huge fan of digital. I won't buy a non-digital game again unless my wife wants some fancy collectors addition so she can have all the toys (I can see this with the new Kingdom Hearts).

This is what I'm at with digital also... I love not having to change out the discs, but only for games I know I will keep and play for a long time. For the others I will put up with the hassle just to be able to resell and get some cash back.
I think I will be giving digital delivery a shot next time. I've been loyal to the brick and mortal Gamestop by my house. The guys that work there are good guys, will provide insight into games, are friendly, etc., basically just good customer service whenever I've been in there. I figure continuing to buy my discs from there and trading in my old one helps keep them in business. Well, when I bought Madden, I figured I'd trade in all my old versions since I would never play them for nostalgia. I got $2 for last years 360 version. They even gave me $.05 for the oldest one I have, so I got a grand total of $3.80 off for the new game. Trading in a single game doesn't even pay for the gas to make the trip, so digital it is for me.
If you bought the games at Amazon or even the MS Store, and sold them online at Amazon or half.com (eBay) you'd probably be at least $20 ahead per game versus buying and selling at GameStop.

I prefer digital but I hate paying extra for it. Physical games are always on sale but it's hard to find cheap digital ones. I buy PSN cards at a discount when I can find them which helps.

Yeah, I definitely won't be selling anymore games at Gamestop, but they were already in hand and I was standing in the store. $3.80 there was better than figuring out how to list them and ship them on another site for some slightly larger payment. I just decided right there to go digital.

one thing I like about having the disc is that you can delete the game data from your console to free up some space if you need to. if you get the urge to play the game again down the line, you can always reinstall it. if you buy digital, and delete the game data, can you reinstall it later?

Yes. It stays in your library and you can download again at any time.

I go this route every time I have to take my company laptop in for updates :bag:

Indeed it does - you always have credit for buying it, and can redownload it for free anytime.

The Golf Club (PS4): Par 3, 207 yard 12th at Pinehurst River

As soon as I hit it, I knew I'd be sailing it a bit past the flag, wasn't happy with my shot. When the ball had descended so I could see the contour of the green better, I could see that I was sailing it a bit past the flag as I thought but right towards a green that looked like a skateboard park ramp. Ball hit and rolled up the hill to nearly the fringe and started to roll back. The hole wasn't in view until the bitter end. It didn't even look like it was going in then but miss by an inch or so. But I lipped it in from the far side of the cup coming back at the hole down the ramp green.

For all the shots I've missed in that game, that made up for it.

I like downloading. I have been stuck once or twice but now I either play the demo or watch some lets play video to see if I think I'll like it.

Yea, watching gameplay in real time w/ comments/etc is very helpful. There are plenty of people playing an hour after release, so it's easy, even on release day, to get a better feel for a game.

Yep

So SHOW and RTTS fans.....

After an awesome rookie season, the blasted Reds lowballed me with a $508k salary. After going back and forth their "final offer" was $587k. What would have happened if I did not accept? Could I have become a FA and signed with a team that actually scores runs and plays defense (bitter about a losing record after putting up a 1.54 era)?

Not sure how it works in RTTS, but in real life, the answer is that no, you would not be a FA.

Also that's not really a lowball. Baseball players don't make much til arb/FA years.

I'm fairly certain I turned down the lowball offer and was forced to sign for even less.

Cool, thanks. That is what I was worried about.

I understand, thanks. Was just curious if this game was any different.....

p.s. I felt like Y23fan...pitched against my Giants in Spring Training and "let them" light me up. Just couldn't do it.

Yeah, that's pretty standard. Cracks me up when they offer $508k and you counter. They say "Come on, you have to be willing to negotiate. We'll offer you $508k."

I didn't have an issue pitching against my beloved Twins. Probably because they really haven't been relevant for quite some time. Maybe I would feel different if they were. :kicksrock:

It was fun to strike out Joe Mauer especially since I had watched him play ball in high school. He crushed MN High School baseball. Also a very good HS QB.

ETA: He only struck out once in HS. Pretty amazing.

My horse in Metal Gear 5 just pooped.

It's the year of our lord 2015 and someone just made a video game where your horse can poop.

I don't remember if someone created a thread for Battlefront already or not, but I'll put this here.

Star Wars: Battlefront won't have a server browser, instead opting for matchmaking system. :yucky:
That's kind of a deal breaker for PC and really unfortunate. That would seem to make it the death knell of DICE giving a crap about pc gamers.
Yep. My interest in it went from day one purchase to wait until it's cheap. EA did that with Titanfall and nobody plays it anymore.

Release day for PC - Nov 17 - is my birthday and I had already told my wife I was taking it off to play this game. Honestly, I think I will pass for now. Just sad.

On the RTTS question. Your first 3 years are contract renewable years where the team can force the renewal of your contract at the minimum if they choose. Then you hit arbitration years. You need i think 6 years of mlb experience before you are eligible for free agency.

There used to be a super 2 option to hit free agency earlier if you were the best player at your position but I don't know if that is in 15.

Can someone explain to me what this means? I as already only hoping to play local multiplayer with my son and it seems like THAT'S a no-go (right?).
Yeah these games have not had local MP with bots in some time. It remains to be seen what it means for playing with friends, but one of the best things about the BF games has always been find servers you like with players you get to know. If it all comes down to throwing randoms together, well then, #### you DICE.

Basically the same. Ease of use with your yt account I guess.
Are the big names from twitch moving over or is it a whole different set of gamers?

I wonder if the gamers can simulcast over both yt and twitch at the same time?

What sense could it possibly make to not be able to play with specific people on specific maps that you get to choose?

"Hey, here's some random people to play with! Have fun!"...I think I'll pass on that.

I have to think there is some type of party system that then feeds into the matchmaking.
Party or not, one of the things that has kept BF going strong for so long in the PC community is the ability for clans to play together, to have servers, to generate a feeling of community on their servers. This will kill that altogether. Having 3 players be able to be on the same server pales in comparison to having clan matches with 30/side, all in the same clan.

But that also leads to an overabundance of exclusivity. If all the best and most fun players are all playing on private servers in their little online cliques, it does not bode well for the health of the game. Seems like a place to evolve towards in order to extend the life of a game, not a place to start.

I think trying to do both might kill a streamers bandwidth. But for those big names that were posting stream recordings on YouTube anyway, this might give them the push to just move right over. It seems the big YT personalities that weren't streaming are now giving it a try with their established fanbases.

Pretty good link to get players for the madden style ratings quest. You unlock a 92 OVR Romo and 92 OVR FS Glover. I have a lot of these offensive guys and can let you borrow them or you can just buy them in the auction. Both of these guys have good stats and can really help your team, and they are auctionable.

Are you PS4 or XB1 (thinking you are XB)? On PS4 I would love to borrow Moss just to get the final game.

Metal Gear 5 is easily GOTY, over Witcher 3 and DA:I.
wow, was that prologue awesome. It was excruciating at first, because it's soooo long in laying in bed, crawling, etc. But it steadily got cooler and cooler, and by the end, it was just incredible.

I'm only into the first mission after that, but this has A+ game written all over it. The stealth mechanics are so simple, and so smooth... it really raises the bar.

So, it's typical Metal Gear where you spend 70% of the time watching cut scenes?

It's open world so most likely not as much. It's like if Far Cry, GTA, and Metal Gear Solid 3 had a baby, with a little bit of Red Dead Redemption thrown in because of the horse riding.

And yeah, it had the best prologue I've probably ever played.

It doesn't seem like it. The opening was long, and you really didn't do much, but the open world structure would not lend itself to "interactive movie".

PC games that have matchmaking systems tend to have much shorter shelf-life than those that have server browsers. Take Titanfall for example. It uses matchmaking and here's how it works finding a game:

"41,100 active players currently online!

Matchmaking is searching for game...

...

...

...

Error. No players found. Returning to queue. "

Fast forward to 20 minutes later and you finally find a game. And the teams are so uneven it's not worth even playing it. Return to queue. Rinse and repeat.

Don't even get me started on trying to keep a party together.

Now take a game like Team Fortress 2 or CS: Go, which uses a server browser and you can pick from thousands of different community servers to play on. Most of my Steam friends have come from exactly these type of servers. I imagine that if Team Fortress 2 worked using a matchmaking system that it would have lasted about as long as Monday Night Combat or Gotham City Imposters.

I actually came in here to post about how much I hated the prologue. Basically you just sit there watching for an hour, and every once in a while the game lets you play it for 45 seconds or so. And it gets old when the same super-duper-enemy who I assume I'll fight at some point makes an OMG! appearance for the fourth time.

That said, this game seems awesome once it gets going. I've only done a couple of missions so far, but the the level design seems really well thought-out and completely lays to rest any concerns I had about this being an open-world game. I like how you get a ranking for each mission, and the mother base meta-game is pretty cool and lets you develop your arsenal in a way that fits your preferred play style. Can't wait to spend some time with this over the weekend -- so far it's just been an hour at a time here and there. Time for a Saturday-Sunday marathon.

The opening was long, and you really didn't do much, but the open world structure would not lend itself to "interactive movie".
Yes. Way less watching and a lot more playing once you get to Afghanistan.

So is there a PS4 update that's happening right now?

The blue light on top is pulsing and I'm not even getting a signal to my projector.
I can't diagnose what's going on, of course, but a flashing light combined with no signal to the tv/projector can't possibly be a sign that all is well.

Well the handshake between the PS4 and my projector has always acted a bit goofy. It won't initially display (under normal circumstances) unless the controller is also turned on.

I guess I'll have to haul a TV over to it to see what is what.
