Video high on M. Floyd (1 Viewer)

I like V. Jackson this year but don't know much about Malcolm Floyd until the 5 Minute Drill. Can anyone shed some light on what is going on with Floyd?

The big key here is that Eric Parker is hurt. That means someone else will get looks opposite of Vincent Jackson. No one is saying Jackson won't be WR1. The bad part of this equation though is that the offense runs though LT and Antonio Gates first and Vincent Jackson next. So how much remains is a legitimate question. Rookie Craig Davis was running with the first team until he got injured. He should start the year opposite of Vincent Jackson in mt opinion. Malcolm Floyd showed great redzone prowess last year and I think that's what Cecil is drawing from. I could see him resuming that role again this year. Malcolm might also beat out Craig Davis too. I am not sure either of these guys are worth rostering right now except in the deepest leagues. If one emerages as the clear #2, then that would change my thinking. But right now I see both seeing time as the WR#2.

For FF, similar to the spot opposite Kennison IMO.

Floyd, like most Chargers WRs is big so he'll probably always be a red zone threat

No one is saying that but I've read several reports that singled out Davis as looking like the best WR in camp this summer. I'm not as convinced Vincent Jackson is a legit #1 WR as everyone else seems to be. Seems to me that when everyone is healthy Jackson will start and Davis, Parker and Floyd start opposite him in that order but if both Davis and Jackson are 100% it could very easily be a 1a/1b situation, which is really a 2a/2b after Gates and maybe even 3a/3b after Tomlinson. Maurile doesn't seem to think a healthy Davis cuts into Jacksons projected production but if Davis is better than Parker I don't really see how Davis wouldn't cut into Jacksons production. I've tried to steer clear of the entire situation this year. Jackson is going too high and Davis is only worth gambling on if you are in deep leagues or dynasty leagues. Floyd got a ton of goal line opportunities last season when Parker was pulled but I'm not nearly as sure Floyd replaces either Jackson or Davis in those situations under the new coaching staff. I don't think Floyd belongs on your roster unless you're sure Davis is going to miss extended time AND Parker still has several weeks before returning. Of course all this changes if Gates/Tomlinson miss time.

The thing that I always remember about Floyd is seeing him play last year...before I knew who he was...and asking myself who this was. He really stood out to me. He just seems to make plays when he is on the field, and plays with an edge. As has been said, this WR spot is the 4th option, but the situation bears watching.

Davis isn't injured, he just missed last weeks game because he got his wisdom teeth pulled and then had some swelling. He'll be fine for the opener. It's possible that Davis gets pulled in the redzone for Floyd (like they did with Parker last year) since he's a good blocker and a big red zone target. Consider with LT, Gates (6'4"), Floyd (6'5") and Jackson (6'5") in the red zone that creates some serious mismatch's.ETA...Davis played last night and went 2-48-1

:hophead: Did you see that catch for the TD? Davis is the goods. Floyd might be in instead of him at the goalline, but I expect Davis to be #2 the rest of the time, with a chance to put up some decent numbers.

I did and it was very nice. He's going to fit in very well in the offense and will get some great matchups based on the SD personnel.

FWIW, rookie Legedu Naanee may have passed Floyd on the depth chart. Naanee was activated over Floyd this week as the WR3 (with Craig Davis out). Osgood was also activated, but just played special teams as far as I could tell. Naanee didn't get any targets, but was on the field a few times with the offense.
