Vikings Eyeing WR J. Porter, WR Stallworth?

Don Seeholzer, Marcus Fuller, St. Paul Pioneer Press - [Full Article]

The Vikings need to get a No. 1 wideout, with WR Koren Robinson likely gone for the season and perhaps for good following last week's DWI arrest. WR Ashley Lelie was traded Tuesday night from Denver to Atlanta and Oakland has possibly taken WR Jerry Porter off the market with its asking price of at least a No. 1 draft choice. That leaves New Orleans' WR Donte Stallworth the best of the reportedly available receivers.

Do the vikes not have faith in their 1st round WR? Is Jerry Porter or Stallworth a better option for them?

He's only in his second season. Porter and/or Stallworth would provide a decent target opposite an emerging talent. Williamson, like all young WRs, can't be expected to jump into the #1 role...(unless he's Randy Moss...which he's not.)

Don't forget that Williamson is a holdover from the Tice regime. Childress may not be nearly as comfortable with him.

Look at the title. It as ? mark in there...... I think this reporter is just speculation. Much like most of the Minnesota media when comes to the Vikings.

I think that it says that Don Seeholzer and Marcus Fuller of the St. Paul Pioneer Press do not have faith in Troy Williamson.

This is coming from a reporter, not from the Vikes. They may be completely comfortable with Williamson as their #1.

Sean Salisbury and Mark Schlereth are paid to argue for a living, but there are a couple of things on which the ESPN NFL analysts agree: The Vikings need to get a No. 1 receiver
Two ESPN analysts opinion.

Ya know who Troy Williamson and his situation remind me of? Chad Jackson. Troy Williamson shot up draft charts because of his blazing speed and was extremely hyped by the media after the combine. Up until then not many people knew much about him. Then he gets drafted and ya really haven't heard or seen much from him on the field. Sure, you can't coach speed...but ya gotta have the ability to understand complex playbooks, run routes, and fight off bump coverage. I can see the same thing happening to Chad Jackson. He shot up the draft board because of his speed yet some say he wasn't even the best receiver on his college team. I got a gut feeling (no, it's not gas) that CJ is gonna be the same way. God bless the hype machine. It's made alot of bums very rich.

"Ugh...Have you watched him play? Trash. Just trash."

I think the question is Aaron have you seen him play?

2112, I am not sure where this is coming from... he didnt look bad at all 2 catches 40yds and targeted 1-2 other times with one of those an over throw.

Well, I was talking about his career, not this preseason. He washed out in Baltimore and has been nothing but pedestrian in MIN.

Last preseason (unfortunately my long thread about him seems to be deleted): Taylor is awesome, he is catching everything, amazes fans, coaches impressed, etc...Where was he in the regular season? This preseason: Same thing as last year.Where will he be in the regular season? As to the OP
What does that say about Williamson?
That neither one of those columnists are the usual beat writers for the Vikes and are just chattering to get their names in print.

Taylor hasn't been a world-beater in Minnesota, true. However, he did have 90 targets, 50 receptions, 600+ yards and 4 TDs when the team lost its starting QB to injury, had O-Line issues and a "RBBC" via injuries and essentially used Taylor in a WR2BC. Baltimore I can understand, as they had absolute garbage at QB in the years he was there. In Minnesota though, with no Koren Robinson and a lessening presence of Marcus Robinson, I personally expect all of Taylor's numbers from last year to rise. How much they will rise will ultimately depend on the health of Brad Johnson and Chester Taylor, IMHO, but they should rise nonetheless. Taylor is a POSSESSION receiver....playing with a MOVE THE CHAINS quarterback in a new DINK AND DUNK passing system. Call me crazy, but Taylor could surprise a LOT of folks this season.
