Vikings @ Colts - 7:30 EST (1 Viewer)

Well, after seeing the first series for each QB, I'd have to say Sage is clearly the more impressive of the two. He seems to get the ball out pretty quickly in blitz packages which is what the Vikings need against teams stacking the box. I think Sage could possibly fit in well with this team.

You think Shiancoe was just a security blanket tonight or you think he's going to be a consistent presence? I'm thinking it's for real.

If they use play action, and keep safeties occupied with deep routes, Shiancoe will have tons of room in the middle of the field like on the opening play.

Fixed.

Colts OL Line not looking too good, Manning sacked three times already.
Can't even blame Charlie Johnson for this either - he wasn't in the game. It is preseason, and the Colts were sitting a bunch of starters - but it was not a good performance on either side of the ball by the Colts 1st teamers (at least the ones that started tonight).

Seifert is reporting he was carted off, which isn't unusual for leg injuries of any degree, but there's no news on it at the moment.

I agree that Harvin is going to be special and think that him being a stud will help Shiancoe even more.

Been saying this since day one.

I HATE that Taylor came in after the Vikes got inside the 10 and then ran it in. WAAAYY too reminiscent of last year.

Garcon dropped an easy WR screen.

Any word on Robert Mathis? Went to the locker room early and I don't think they ever gave any updates on him.

I don't know if it was an error by the Vikings' broadcast crew or not, but when they showed the starting lineups they listed Garcon as a TE. Was this because Clark wasn't playing or will he possibly play/be listed as a TE this year??

Colts were missing 3 TEs yesterday - Clark, Tamme and Santi. Garcon isn't a TE.Colts were missing 15 total players yesterday - including 5 starters on D (including their entire secondary) and 4 on offense (including both tackles) - and the 3rd string RT's horrid play was why Peyton was sacked 2 out of his 3 sacks. It was ugly to watch - but Colts preseason action usually is. At least Brown looks like a good prospect at RB.

How did Sullivan (vikings center) look? Did anyone notice him - if not that's a good thing.

How about Loadholt?

I thought they both played well. They both played about the entire first half. Sullivan looked good pulling on a few plays.Loadholt had a false start penalty, but it looked like he just lost his balance in his two point stance, not that he moved on purpose early. He also got beat a little on a speed rush once and got away with a holding call on it, but overall he played really well on run plays.

I think I need to see a game where Harvin and Berrian are both playing before I can really assess how much Shiancoe will be used, but Sage certainly didn't shy away from looking his way last night.

Donald Brown seems to be ripping it up, anyone thats watching wanna comment? :goodposting:
Vikings second team defense is a bit weak.
Like the 2nd team Colts OL is any good? Brown made good runs there. He and the new punter are the only Colt highlights so far.
I'm not saying that at all. I just think he needs some work against a first team defense before I can really judge his talent. I've never watched him play before but he looked quick and decisive in his cuts. If he can show the same against defensive starters then Addai might need to watch his back.

Finally got a chance to watch a tape of the game and had had the following reactions:

1. Sage Rosenfels looks good. I'd be perfectly content heading into the season with Sage at QB.

2. It should not be overlooked that the Vikes went for it twice on 4th down in the initial scoring drive. I loved seeing it but it made me ponder: If this had been a regular season game, is there any doubt Childress would have punted in one or both situations? I hope the team's ability to convert on 4th gives Childress some pause from his typical uber conservative ways.

3. The play that angered me to my core was the following when Tarvaris was in the game:

3rd and 9 at IND 15 (2:14) A.Young right tackle to IND 18 for -3 yards (M.Howard, D.Muir).

Frankly, I was shocked Paul Allen didn't comment on this play during the radio broadcast, and no fans mentioned it on fan line. With Tarvaris still very much needing to show he is a starting caliber QB, the Vikes call a running play from the Indianapolis 15 with just over 2:00 to go before halftime on 3rd and long?!? Now I don't doubt for a moment this is the play conservative Childress calls in the regular season, waiving the white flag on any chance at a TD and settling for a FG. OTOH preseason is an opportunity to test the redzone packages, see what players can do in tough situations, etc. Frankly, the FG was a given in this position, and the only message I can glean from this play call is Childress wanted to protect Tarvaris from throwing an interception, which frankly, I find astounding for preseason action.
