Vinatieri Crowd Reception on Sunday (1 Viewer)

He was once the man "who'd never have to pay for another beer in a Boston bar for the rest of his life". I say cheers.

I cant see the Pats fans booing the only reason the team has their superbowl championships.... They surely realize what he meant to that team. If they do boo him it just shows how shallow they are because if he dont hit the game winners vs Carolina, St. Louis, etc..... They have "0" championships!

My guess is he gets a pretty warm reception during warmups or if he kicks off to start the game. Pats fans are well aware of his place in franchise history. He was also a well liked guy while he was here.

Yet, this is Boston and if you're wearing another uniform you're playing for the enemy. The fact he's playing for the Colts takes that to another level. Therefore you'll see more attitude directed at him as the game goes on. Nothing with a lot of venom but he will not be cheered after he gets that initial welcome.

Cheers....he left on good terms...

Boo the owner/gm for not paying
They made an offer higher than the one the Colts were dishing out. He walked.
:link: You DO know there is this thing called the internet, right? On this thing called the internet, old information is stored so that when someone makes a statement, his facts can be checked. The Blogger goes back to 2004 - the Pats offered Vini 2 million a year to keep him the highest paid K in the biz. The Colts signed him for 5 years and 2.4 million per year.

The Colts offered him more money and a longer term deal.

Get your facts straight before you become a hater. ;)

The Pats fans will give Vini a big cheer - there will be one lone phan named phlash with his middle finger in the air. :D

PK Vinatieri Rejects Offer

John Tomase, Boston Herald - [Full Article]

Sources say the Patriots have offered PK Adam Vinatieri a multiyear contract worth more than $2 million annually that would keep him the highest paid kicker in the game, but that he has not accepted it. Even with the start of free agency pushed back for three days until Monday, a source close to Vinatieri said he wants to let the market determine his value, “like at an auction.” “I really enjoyed my 10 years with the Patriots,” Vinatieri said.

PK Vinatieri May Test Market

Jerome Solomon, Boston Globe - [Full Article]

The Patriots allowed a deadline to pass yesterday afternoon without placing a franchise tag on PK Adam Vinatieri, effectively meaning the star kicker will have the opportunity to test the market as an unrestricted free agent. Should Vinatieri, one of only two kickers in NFL history (Denver's PK Jason Elam) to score 100 or more points in each of his first 10 seasons, sign with another team, the Patriots would not receive compensation.

Place Kickers, An Open Market

Gary Myers, New York Daily News - [Full Article]

Bill Parcells went through three kickers during the '05 season. But Parcells should find a reliable kicker in free agency. The top three are PK Adam Vinatieri, signed by Parcells in New England, Green Bay's PK Ryan Longwell and Indy's PK Mike Vanderjagt. The deadline for designating franchise players is Thursday. Vinatieri was tagged last year. Vanderjagt is probably done in Indy.

Tag Or Ticket Out Of Town For PK Vinatieri?

Tom Curran, Providence Journal - [Full Article]

The most immediate issue they face is with PK Adam Vinatieri, the sport's ultimate closer. Vinatieri will be a free agent March 3 unless the team opts to apply the franchise tag to him again this year, as they did in 2005. Vinatieri doesn't know what New England has planned. Vinatieri is just one of several Patriots hitting free agency. WR David Givens, OT Tom Ashworth, right OG Stephen Neal, WR/PR Troy Brown and TE Christian Fauria all hit the market, as well.

UFA K Vinatieri Hopes To Return To Patriots

Russ Choma, Union Leader - [Full Article]

New England Patriots kicker Adam Vinatieri will be an unrestricted free agent this off-season, unless the team places a franchise or transitional tag on him prior to February 23. However, Vinatieri says that he hopes to re-sign with the team. “Clearly we’ve got to come to a decision that’s right for me and the team,” Vinatieri said. “But I’m optimistic we’ll get something done. If it’s up to me, I’ll be back.”

K Vinatieri Comfortable With Colts

AP - [Full Article]

It hasn't taken long for Adam Vinatieri to fit in with the Indianapolis Colts. Since signing a five-year, $12 million contract with Indianapolis in late March, the former Patriots kicker has been at the Colts' practice facility constantly, and has gotten more comfortable with punter/holder Hunter Smith and long snapper Justin Snow.

Colts Release PK Cortez, PK Rayner

ColtPower - [Full Article]

Veteran PK Jose Cortez was released. He had re-signed with the team under a one-year deal prior to the PK Adam Vinatieri signing, but was the second-most expensive kicker out of the four due to his veteran status. Second-year PK Dave Rayner, who was a sixth-round pick by the Colts out of Michigan State, was waived. The cuts leave Vinatieri and rookie PK Shane Andrus on the roster.

K Vinatieri Signed

AP - [Full Article]

The Indianapolis Colts took a key piece from rival New England, agreeing in principle to a deal with clutch K Adam Vinatieri on Tuesday night. Vinatieri, who twice hit winning kicks in the Super Bowl for the Patriots, replaces former Pro Bowl K Mike Vanderjagt.

he will not be cheered after he gets that initial welcome.
That's for sure. And they'll hate him as much as they loved him if he kicks a clutch FG to inw the game - if he MISSED a clutch kick in NE, you know they'll say "he's still a Pat at heart."

They'll probably throw Papa Gino's slices and Dunkin' Donuts coffee at him when he sprints out of the tunnel. Well, maybe they won't...but they should.

What are the odds the Colts are down by 1 or 2 points and Vinatieri MISSES the Game Winning Field Goal as time expires.

Now THAT would be funny.

there's literally NO WAY this game doesn't come down to a Vinatieri kick at the gun.
As much as this match up is hyped, out of the last 9 games, only one has been decided by a FG or less.EDIT: He gets cheered, by the way. No question.

Just like when Jonny Damon came back. He gets cheered initially, after that it's all boos. That's what I'll be doing.

No way to say that. Those games would have gone to overtime. His best 2 kicks were in the snow against the Raiders.

He's still just a kicker.
A kicker making more than $2 million a year.
But still just a kicker.
No doubt but one of the most popular ones in the history of the game IMO.IIRC I read that he owns alot of business in the NE area. I don't live in NE and I used to see his mug on truck commercials and some others a few times a day.Personally, I think some of his popularity is due to Scott Norwood. That upper northeastern part of our country has just two teams. Scott played for one and retired. He played for the other. Maybe moreso than other team's fans, Buffalo fans ate up his "clutch" play. I know this sounds odd but I have some family up in Buffalo. When I go, Pats always seem to be on at 1 and Bills at 4 or vice versa. Two games, same two teams each week. Maybe I'm wrong.

I thought it was pretty cool that he was interviewed in the locker room with his Sox hat on the other day on NFL N. Keeping it real....

Wonder if the Colts win the toss, they would defer so he could start the game by kicking off...probably not (they are going to need to score early if they hope to win), but it would be cool since the players aren't introduced. Maybe the Pats win the toss, take the ball, and he'll get to anyway!

Also, I saw this article where Brady says "he looks so ugly in that uniform"...classic:

http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/arti.../611030431/1100

He'll get cheered during intros, although I'm sure there will be *some* boos mixed in. He'll get heckled if he misses any FGs, just like any other opposing kicker would.

New England fans are a funny lot. I remember Clemens' first game at Fenway as a Blue Jay. He got a mix of cheers and boos during the intro. Then he went out and pitched a classic Clemens game...16 strikeouts. Towards the end of the game, whenever he got 2 strikes on a batter, the fans were *on their feet cheering* for the strikeout and would roar in approval if he got the punchout. There's no way Foxboro will explode in cheers if Vinatieri kicks the game winner like he did in Denver last week, but the fans remember his key role in their titles and won't dismiss it easily.

They should cheer him, he is one of the clutchest kickers of all time if not the clutchest.

He will have a big fantasy game this week, like he has all season in the games they played.
