Vince Young GREAT QB, OR GREATEST QB? (1 Viewer)

Pretty amazing, isn't he?

I mean, this guy just wins no matter how pedestrian his stats look. He's the latest greatest quarterback in the history of ever since Tony Romo and Jay Cutler.

Some would have you believe that W/L record is all that matters when it comes to how good a QB is.

Vince Young is 22-11 as an NFL starter.

Case closed.

:lmao:

He's a dumb Qb with the mental capacity of a child, he is whats wrong with the NFL..

Because an owner plopped down millions for this guy they have had to dumb down the playbook to make it something he can understand. Now the game is regressing back to college level because the league is filling up with these "atheletic" Qb's who can barely tie their own shoes.

He's winning in Tenn because of their coach, their Defense, and their prolific running game. Ask him to make more than 1-2 reads in the passing game and watch him go blank.

Did they have this coach, defense, and running game the first 6 games of the season?
Ask him to make more than 1-2 reads in the passing game and watch him go blank take off and run for a first down.
Fixed.

And if he runs for 10 yards on first down who cares , there is only one thing about sports its winning. No one cares how ou win as long as you do ...

Last time I checked, wins aren't an individual stat. And yes, many do care how a team wins because it speaks to the effectiveness of a particular scheme and the players needed to run that scheme.

Vince Young is not the reason the Titans have won four straight. He's undoubtedly played a role, but the primacy of that role is being overstated by the pundits and fans who refuse to dig deeper than wins and losses.

Young is doing well overall, but the big reason for the Titans improved play is the defense getting healthy and finding its groove and...wait for it..... Chris Johnson.

Where many will argue that the Titans are undefeated since Fisher benched Collins and replaced him with Young, I say that's a causal fallacy. The more impactful change is the play of the defense--they were averaging 33 ppg in the first six weeks, but they've brought that number down to 18 ppg over the last four weeks. Moreover, the improved play of the defense has led to a huge jump in touches for Chris Johnson. In those earlier games when they were getting thrashed on defense he was averaging 15 carries per game. Since then, he's getting 26+.

Young is playing great football and doing what they ask of him, but he is not the man mainly responsible for the team's winning streak. I give that honor to Chris Johnson.

Wonder which owner is most happy with the millions he pays out on his QB?The one who has the dumb one (16 on the Wonderlic test-Vince Young) who is 22-11The one with the Rocket scientist (29 on the Wonderlic test-Jay Cutler) who is 21-25The one with the Brain Surgeon (35 on the Wonderlic test Matt Leinart) who is? Has he even won a game as a starter?

Answer = Jamarcus Russell

Although there are several variables to consider, Vince Young absolutely looks like he's helping the Titans win football games since returning to their starting lineup.

Why would I ask him this? Ask Peyton Manning to run for a 1st down on 3rd and 9.

Good luck to him, the guy certainly can run. He's certainly a better QB than Kerry Collins, but I don't think that is saying much. With a healthy defense and Chris Johnson there's no excuse for how badly that team played earlier in the season.

I'd be worried about what will happen when the chips are down and the tide turns against him though. Is he going to fly off the handle and have a major mental breakdown?

CJ was there for 0-6. Cortland Finnegan and VY are the key differences after the break and the team is working better together.

Thats what the Bears said about Orton and so they got Cutler, how'd that work out for them????

There's no need to ask Manning because by the time you do he has already completed the pass to his 3rd read for a 15 yard gain.

No one thinks Young=Manning. Just wondering why the OP of this often quoted post didn't just cut to the chase on " Now the game is regressing back to college level because the league is filling up with these "atheletic" Qb's who can barely tie their own shoes." and just say Black QB's. And yes I just went there.

Offensive.

Young is doing what Kerry Collins did last year, protect the football, let the running game run wild, and make a play here and there.

Young is completing 63% of his passes (Collins last year had 58.3%) for 7.0 yards per attempt (Collins: 6.4). He's also added 146 rushing yards and a TD in 4 starts (Collins had 49 rushing yards and no TDs in 15 starts last year). Four games is a small sample size, but it certainly looks like Young is performing better than Collins did in 2008.

I agree Vince is playing well.

Trent Dilfer won 11 straight games including the SB.He may be a winner, but I'm not impressed by a QB who throws for 100 yards a game.

In addition to that, the TITANs 3rd down conversion rate with VY in the last 4 games is 50.88%, in the 6 previous games with Collins was 35.90%. He is not turning it over and he is converting 3rd down into 1st downs. That is a pretty good winning formula.

 There ya have it.
 VY has been a decent QB, but everyone seems to forget that Collins went 13-3 last year, which unbelievably is a better W/L than 22-11.If people think that the Titans were losing early just because of Collins they are crazy. The Titans gave up 31 points per game en route to 0-6. Also, Collins faced NE, Indy, Houston, Pittsburgh, NYJ (back when Sanchez didn't suck) and @Jax. VY has faced Buffalo, Houston, Jax (home) and SF.I think VY has played well, but I also think with the Titans playing better on D (in last 4 gave up 17 to Houston and 13 to Jax instead of 34 and 37 in first 6) that Collins would have had a very good chance to be 4-0 too. VY got lucky with timing, but I wouldn't say he hasn't played better, just that he absolutely came in at the right time.

You don't think that Collins completing less than 55% of his passes and throwing 8 INTs in 6 games might have something to do with teams scoring more against the Titans? In the game they lost 59-0 he was 2/12 passing for -7 yards with an INT, and he's thrown at least one INT in every game. In the first six games of the year, Tennessee had a total of 10 first downs in the first quarter; their offense was putting them in a hole.Edit to add: Tennessee has 20 first downs in the first quarters of the four games Young has started.

this whole thing is funny. The biggest problem with the NFL (and especially fans) is the force feeding of positional molds, prototypes, and stereotypes. VY will probably not go down as an all time great, he will probably not have prolific passing numbers, he will not fit into a prototypical pocket passing mold ... he also doesn't have to do those things to win ball games. Is little chris johnson the prototype of a 20+ carry back? I am guessing you will never say yes ... I mean people keep comparing him to barry sanders but barry sanders was built almost exactly like MJD, He is something new and different and a lot of teams would have forced him into a third down back type roll ... without outside the box thinking we end up with the same old re-tread NFL

This will always be the case but IMO misses the point here.

I just don't understand what is with all the Vince Young hate here. Must be a bunch of USC fans?

Wunderlic or not, no matter how you slice it - the dude is 22-11 and gets the job done. One of the greatest!

oof
 The run game was a pretty big reason for this win.
Vince Young was a pretty big reason for this win. It's not either/or. It would be ridiculous to dismiss what Johnson has done as "they're winning because of their coach, their defense, and Vince Young's play." And it's ridiculous to dismiss what Young has done as "they're winning because of their coach, their defense, and their prolific running game."

Right, it's similar to what Farve is going thru with ADP.

Football isn't exactly rocket science, you know.

I'd bet the VY haters didn't even watch the game today. He played a helluva game.

VY isn't going to read a D as well as Peyton. Peyton isn't going to keep a play alive or run like VY.

Also, comparing VY to Manning ain't exactly fair. Manning may be the best QB to ever play the game. VY is a very young and raw player.

You really don't think CJ is getting a lot of extra carries (opportunities to break the big one) due to VY extending drive after drive with his legs and arm? Have you noticed how much the Titans' TOP has improved with VY at the helm? Do you think maybe keeping the opposing offense off the field helps the defensive stats a bit, keeps them better rested, and keeps their scoring opportunities and their score down?
