Vince Young signs w/ Green Bay (1 Viewer)

Packers signed QB Vince Young to a one-year contract.
Thankfully, the Graham Harrell era is over. Young, 30, brings to Green Bay 50 career starts with a 31-19 record, 46:51 TD-to-INT ratio, and 5.2 YPC average as a scrambler. No matter your thoughts on Young, he stands a far better chance of keeping the Packers' offense competitive in the event of an Aaron Rodgers injury, which unfortunately became more likely when LT Bryan Bulaga tore his ACL over the weekend. In a high-powered Packers offense, Young will offer some fantasy upside as a reserve in two-QB leagues and possible back-end QB1 if Rodgers missed time. He's a headcase, but dual-threat quarterback with functional accuracy and game-breaking running skills.
Thats interesting.

Whoever you got this quote from may be jumping the gun. I'm of the thought that Harrell is going to lock the backup spot up soon.
I'm not sure that Vince Young is on the roster come September. Maybe he's a scout read/draw QB to help the packers get geared up for week one. I've always been a Young fan, but I don't see him fitting into a McCarthy offense.

Mike McCarthy was the mastermind behind Aaron Brooks, whom he drafted and then brough to NO.

Aaron Rodgers was drafted by Mike Sherman.

That is all.

McCarthy was supposedly behind Alex Smith in SF too. Dude gamed it perfect.

Not sure it means much at this point.

They cut the undrafted kid they had as the 4th QB and have been saying they would add a QB for camp.

That said...Harrell is not an NFL caliber QB.

Coleman has a big arm, but still shows signs he is not ready.

Either way...if Rodgers does get hurt...they are screwed (like most teams would be if they lost their starter).

And a terrible quote claiming injury to Rodgers is now just more likely. Just a dumb thing to actually put in a blurb like that.

Vince Young seems like a good QB to have your defense practice the zone read against. Something the Packers seemed to have trouble with. (as many teams did)

You mean drafted by Thompson. Yes Sherman was still coach at the time of the draft but Thompson had taken over GM duties by then. Sherman was a buffoon and should in no way get any sort of credit for GB drafting Rodgers.

Harrell had a nice college career and then went to coach QBs at Oklahoma State before landing in GB. His intelligence has been complimented many times and has future coach written all over him IMO.

People on this board never seemed to like the guy, but he's hung around GB for a couple years now. I want to see what he's got in preseason-I'm hopeful he can be Jason Garrett to Troy Aikman type. Zero worry of him ever beating out the starter but steady eddy when he needs to fill in.

Vince Young is pretty well documented. He's left such an impression on me from college and rookie year, that I still would not want my team to have to stop him with two minutes left. He wrecked his game making bad habits worse as he was so busy pointing his finger at everyone else and ultimately having a breakdown of sorts. Wasn't he cut by Buffalo?

He entered the league with incredible poise under pressure and determination. He had a ton of bad habits that were overcome by his athleticism. The bad habits got worse and worse. I would be surprised if he makes GBs roster.

I think the best way to illustrate how much he's changed since he entered the league- You can not tell this guy was ever coached by Mack Brown.

Camp body so the defense can practice against the read-option.

Why do teams keep throwing money away on Vince Young?
Well, the Packers haven't yet. He still has to make the team. He's competing with Graham Harrell for QB2, and they don't normally roster more than 2.

None of the people who cover the Packers believe he was brought in just to give the read option look in practice. They could have any number of undrafted rookies do that. Ted Thompson has always liked him and this is a legitimate competition for backup QB.

Looks like they really want him to compete for it.

No doubt he has some talent in there...just not sure his mindset fits in the room with Rodgers all that well (though, Im sure they can talk about reliving Vince beating USC and rubbing that in Clay's face for fun).

Does not seem to have the mind to work with McCarthy either...but time will tell.

if i was vince young i would watch out for claymaker in practice because he might go beserker viking crazy and rmemeber the national title game and give old vincer a flying viking ninja kick like that one ninja guy in necessary roughness into the next county and then the ref will have to do that illegal ninja chop penalty thing that still makes me laugh so there you have it folks take that to the bank brohans

They carried 3 QBs in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2011, and parts of 2010.The only recent seasons that they did not carry 3 active quarterbacks were 2009 (when Brian Brohm was practice squad eligible) and 2012 (when B.J. Coleman was on the practice squad).

I thought he looked real good or better than I expected the other night. 3rd stringers mostly but he looked solid. Could see him start putting his game together again, back up in GB, maybe find a true competition on another team in a year or two. Good for Vince.

I don't think there's any doubt he's better than freakin' Harrell, and I don't see where any amount of time allows Harrell to bridge that gap.

When Young was out there, he just looked very comfortable doing what he does, it was like nothing else was happening outside of that field, and the offense had rhythm, I don't wanna gush over him but I was just happy to see a man be able to come back to what he loves to do, play Quarterback in the NFL.

He earned it last night.

Good for him...came in, from many accounts sounded more mature, knows its his last chance and is putting in the work.

He is still not great...not the smartest guy...but for a game or two, he has the ability to keep them in games by just being athletic...1st read not there...take off.
