Vincent Brown Vs Keenan Allen Going fwrd (1 Viewer)

The Chargers offense is mimicking that of Denver offense. Gates has discovered the fountain of youth but would love to see who at wr finishes at top.. Will it be alot like Welker and Thomas in Denver with Brown and Allen..?

Why not? They throw a lot, have an injury prone RB and a Sproles-lite that isn't a fantastic runner in Woodhead, but a great pass catcher.

Probably closer than you think in PPR. Edge to Allen in standard or 0.5 point PPR leagues. TDs should be a pretty solid edge to Allen.

I'm really high on Vincent Brown in PPR leagues if he can manage to stay healthy. I think Allen has the higher upside, but Brown is getting a ton of targets and should be a lock for 5 or so catches and 40-50 yards each week. It's not fantastic, but a floor of 10 PPR points is pretty nice for a bench level player.

I'd rather own Allen for sure, but for those that missed out on him, Brown is a solid consolation prize.

I think they both might need each other to excel, like was said in the Allen thread- Brown being very good is what Allen needs to get less coverage. -Quote is not exact, see Allen thread (I think)

I got Allen in one 10 teamer and Brown is still available, in my 12 teamer i missed on Allen and picked up Brown.

Come on ...This one couldn't be more obvious!

Brown will get a ton of targets.

However Allen has more talent

But the experience edge goes to Brown

Although Allen is more likely to get touchdowns

But brown has gotten a whole lot of Red Zone looks himself

Allen is bigger and faster

But Brown is an exceptional route runner and has great hands

So there you have it ...than answer was practically sitting on your face.

I like them both but I think Allen is more likely to hit the rookie wall.
I've been thinking about this too. I picked up Allen to try and trade for brown. I like Allen's upside, but think brown will be more consistent throughout the season in PPR

If you watched the entire SD vs Oakland game, Keenan Allen only got his once the Raiders were in "prevent D" (didn't prevent ####) that opened up HUMONGOUS holes in the secondary. Allen is not going to see that every week. Vincent Brown looked like the more complete WR throughout the game and Rivers seemed to look more his way when the game wasn't in catchup mode. I think Brown has more value going forward, but if Rivers keeps it up, they should both be decent WR3 options.

This "garbage time" crap is just that, crap. Quoting werdnoynek from the hype train thread..

However, actually looking at the game again, I don't think we can really call the 4th quarter garbage time. They were within 7 after the Allen TD with 10 minutes left. Oakland got a FG on the next drive and they were down 10 with 4:24 left. That isn't garbage time... the game is on the line there and they were making a comeback (and almost did FWIW). On the next drive, SD drove down to the Oakland 4 yd line - Allen was targetted 3 times and Brown just once. Then Rivers threw a bad pass to Allen in the endzone for an INT. He was wide open and the pass was late / behind him. Allen had 5 targets in the 4th quarter. Brown had only 1. The game was on the line and he was looking to Allen often including twice in the endzone.

That says a lot about River's confidence in the rookie IMO. Garbage time? I think not.

The guy started his post with "If you watched the the entire SD vs. Oakland game...". With that said, if you did watch the game, I don't know how you can argue with his point. Whether the game was only 7 points or not, Allen got 70 yards by being left wide open as a result of Oakland playing prevent defense. You could question the rationale of Oakland playing that kind of defense while only being up by 10 points, but you can't question the fact that that's exactly what happened.

This, and there's also the little detail that Vincent Brown scored a 30 yard TD that was called back because the LT didn't line up close enough to the line of scrimmage. (Illegal formation). That didn't count as a target for Vincent Brown, and two plays later, Keenan Allen scored a 7 yard TD.

So, the 5 targets to 1 target in the 4th quarter is pretty misleading too...

I'm just trying to analyze a little deeper then what the box score may be telling us. The Allen targets and receptions were by no means in what we generally call garbage time (one team up by 30+ points with 5 minutes left in the game). SD was in catchup mode and the raiders made the choice to try and "prevent" the long TD throw, when in reality all they were doing was giving up easy 30-40 yard receptions. Even the announcers mentioned it a few times that the raiders defensive formation was pretty ridiculous and was giving up long reception after long reception.

The chargers to my dismay look good this year, they won't be in catchup mode a lot. Rivers looked like crap in the first half and Pryor looked like Vintage Vick, which is why they were in catchup mode. SD will be in high scoring shootouts, which in my opinion bodes well for Vincent Brown.

Understood. I stayed up (east coast) for that game as well and generally thought Allen looked to be the better WR. Admittedly, Brown looked the best he has all season, as he was actually able to gain separation but I do not believe the fact that he was dead last in YAC before that game to be a coincidence. He hasn't been the same dude since his hip injury.

There's no reason that both cannot garner value moving forward but I believe Allen to have more upside. The only thing Brown has on him is experience in this offense/with Rivers (which is admittedly a big deal).

I think it was an ankle injury, but I get your point. I recall him also suffering from a hamstring injury in the preseason, so maybe he's just now recovering from the lingering effects.

Don't get me wrong, I pondered long and hard (pause) about which of the two guys I would pick up (drafted Brown, but dropped him after Week 3). Decided on picking Brown back up, while placing a bid for Allen in case I missed out on Brown. Turns out I was overbid (by a lot) on both guys. Knowing my luck, they'll both turn out to be studs.

Brown looked as he has all season long tonight, constantly unable to gain any separation. He also saw 4 targets to Allen's 12. Although I don't expect it to be as lopsided every week, I think this is much of what we can expect going forward.
