Vincent Jackson signs his tender (1 Viewer)

Sooo.....We can assume if what Schefter is saying is correct, VJ will be happy to sign his tender and stay with SD next year??
If don't know whether it would make VJ happy. But it would make me happy if I were him.$10 million a year fully guaranteed, followed by unrestricted free agency, would be pretty sweet.Whether he is happy about it or not, though, he would sign his tender and remain in SD next year. His only alternative is to retire from the NFL. (He doesn't become a free agent by not signing his tender.) Jackson has made some questionable decisions in the past; but I really doubt he would just end his career instead of playing for $10 million.
you say that because you aren't working your ### off and making millions.I'm sure one million would make you happy, but if I was tom brady and they paid me one million I think I'd be a little irritated by that.if he could've gotten 50m with 25 guaranteed, but instead gets franchised and tears an acl in week 16 he probably won't be as happy as you would be to lose out on millions.

I believe this is exactly the kind of situation that will make the whole offseason cba negotiations very contentious. The players only real grievance is that the whole tag system is anti trust. And screws players out of fre market value

I say it because I think $10 million fully guaranteed for one year is pretty good — not just compared to the relative pittance I make, but also compared to the long-term deal VJ wants. What did Brandon Marshall get — a five-year deal worth a max of ~$50 million with ~$15 million guaranteed? So yeah, he got more guaranteed money over five years than VJ will get over one year. But new player contracts tend to go up by a fair amount every year. Marshall is stuck with a five-year contract, while VJ will be on the open market in a year or two — after he's already earned $10 or $20 million. And when he hits the open market in a year or two, the bar will no longer be $50 million over five years; by that point it will likely be more like $65 million over five years.

I understand the risk involved for VJ. If he undergoes a Randy Moss decline, he'll never get his big contract with $15 million guaranteed. (Well, maybe from the Raiders a la Javon Walker.) He'll have to settle for his $10 million guaranteed instead, and then reestablish his worth. But that's not a huge risk, and there is upside to partially offset it. (And another advantage is that he'd stay in an offense that suits his strengths. VJ would be decent anywhere he went, but he would not flourish in a west coast offense nearly to the same extent as he does in the Chargers' downfield passing attack.)

So if I were VJ, I wouldn't really mind being franchised. I might have a slight preference not to be franchised, but it would only be slight.

VJ might have a different view of the matter. I'm just saying what my thinking would be in his position.

There are certain provisions in the CBA that benefit the owners at the expense of the players, and certain other provisions that benefit the players at the expense of the owners. On the whole, considering all the trade-offs together, the players really like the current deal. Their only real grievance is that the owners want out of it.
