Vincent Jackson.... (1 Viewer)

By the looks of this kid can he grab the job this year?

With the departure of Reche Caldwell this offseason, Vincent Jackson will enter training camp as the #3 WR on the Chargers’ depth chart. Expect him to be worked into the rotation this year, but not enough to have much fantasy value in redraft leagues. (Dynasty leagues are another story: Jackson has a legitimate shot to take over the #1 WR position from Keenan McCardell in another year or two.)

I think he's in good shape to step in and contribute this year. He seems to have a great realtionship with Rivers. I think 35 catches for 450 yards and 6-8 Td's are very realistic. In 2007, the sky is the limit!!!

To answer your question, Yes he does have a legit shot. In fact all things point to the fact he is the heir apparent. Whether it is is this year or next will have a lot to do with the health of KMac and Parker.

:goodposting: Jackson is not going to outwork McCardell or Parker, and those two are extremely unlikely to lose their jobs with drops, fumbles, or bad routes. I think the most likely scenerio is a constant rotation of 3 WRs all season with McCardell and Parker retaining their starting positions but Jackson getting a similar # of total snaps by the end of the year.Jackson's potential is sky high and extremely evident to anyone who follows the Chargers closely, but McCardell is coming off a fantastic year and Parker is a coaching favorite b/c of his hard work, maximum effort, and great hands. McCardell recently hinted in the local newspaper that he would be willing to adapt to the WR3 role to extend his career - says he wants to play 5 more seasons. My guess is that Keenan sees the writing on the wall and knows that a year from now it's unlikely that Jackson can be kept on the bench. It would be classy and beneficial to the franchise for Keenan to mentor Jackson and then step back gracefully.

I think he would have been at least #3 even if Caldwell had stayed in SD.

Gunz has his finger on the pulse of the Chargers and I would definately agree with his assessment, but here is some interesting speculation per rotoworld: Vincent Jackson-WR-Chargers Aug. 14 - 10:54 pm et Chargers WR Vincent Jackson's chances to start may have increased with Darren Sproles likely to miss the season.Because current first-teamer Eric Parker is now expected to handle punt returns, his responsibilities in the pass game may be reduced, and San Diego wanted Parker as a slot receiver anyways. Jackson is a fine dynasty league pickup.
