Vincent Jackson (1 Viewer)

Saw him this preseason and he looked great. Rivers does have that connection with him as both were 2nd team and bench players last season. The bruised chest/scratched lung has me worried a bit, but this kid has size, hands and tons of potential. Deep sleeper, maybe, I would say more of a true sleeper. We all know McCardell won't be around for much longer and I keep hearing that he has taken Jackson under his wing.In redrafts probably a late round flier. But in dynasty, like my league I scooped him up 2nd round.

Deeeeeeeep sleeper?
You know how, if you draft Michael Turner, you're probably not going to start him unless (a) Tomlinson gets hurt or (b) you're really desperate at RB?It's kind of the same with Jackson: you're probably not going to start him unless McCardell or Parker get hurt.

A major difference between Turner and Jackson is that Turner has already looked studly on 81 regular season touches. Jackson has looked fine on three regular season touches, but the hype is really coming from practice (and one preseason game) rather than regular season performance.

Another major difference is that if LT did get hurt, Turner would be the #1 option in the Chargers' rushing game. If McCardell or Parker get hurt, Jackson would be the #3 or #4 option in the Chargers' passing game.

So yes, I would consider Jackson a legitimate sleeper based on his size/speed/hands/athleticism. But he is a deeeeeeeeep sleeper, with maybe even a few extra ees, because of his unproven-ness in games and because of his team situation.

Yes, I believe the original poster was referring to redrafts. In a dynasty league, I don't think he's a sleeper at all. He should be a well known prospect.

Parker has been solid the last couple years. And McCardell is coming off a solid 9 TD season. I'm talking about Jackson as a guy to get in the last round of a redraft. He has certainly shown potential against a few quality CBs this preseason. Plus, the guy is just a beast.

Funny thing was, some dope thought he was a rookie. I was saying how Jennings would be the best rookie WR out of this years' draft... at least for this season (though I think he's the best, period)... guy comes back with "no, V. Jackson"

He's good, I worked him up pretty good in Madden last season to a #2 starter. I don't know how much Rivers will throw to his WRs... we don't know much about how that offense will look. Regardless, he's a decent pick late, for your last WR. Don't count on him being a starter for your team, unless McCardell/Parker get hurt

I've owned him in ALL my leagues that I could since the beginning of Augast.

A top 20 WR easy if he gets the PT. Which I think he will. (Watch Parker move to the slot by week 3).

Jackson might be the #5 Target on paper, but Rivers sure does seem to like him.

Jackson could be the #2 target this year if things break right for him.

I know I know. The last part is a big statement. Now take in to account that McCardell is 36 years old. He will be 37 by Jan 6. Also take into account that Rivers and Jackson developed a real nice relationship both playing with the 2nd team last year. And take into account that Parker is more suited for the Slot than on either side, not to mention he doesnt have much upside. Jackson is 6'5, 241 pounds, and NOT slow. Last, he's not a rookie. I believe he will be the next option in the red zone behind Gates. 1b option on the field. If McCardell cant hold up (which is a pretty high chance seeing how he's 37) Jackson becomes 1a. McCardell has also said he'd be willing to take a lesser role in the passing offense to just continue his career. Sounds very nice to me.

Yeah but top 20 easy? I'd be satisfied with him as my WR5... no higher than that. He'll have more real life value than fantasy value... because he won't get 6-80-1 a game. If anything he'll get 2-3 catches a game, for maybe 50 yards and he'll get a score every now and then. In a PPR league that's okay... but I wouldn't want 8 points from my flex player, praying that he scores a TD.

Jackson will score maybe 5 TDs this season... have fun predicting that.

Top 20 WR?? Over Javon Walker, Derrick Mason (yes, I stuck my foot in my mouth), Santana Moss, Roy Williams, Hines Ward???? You serious?

You know in order to be a top 20 WR he'd have to have 1000 yards and at least 7 scores... and in a PPR league he'd have to have at least 65 catches. I'll give you the 7 scores... hell I'll even give you 60 receptions if he beats out Parker- and that's being nice... but I won't give 1000 yards. That's 17 yards/catch... no way.

My predictions IF he beats out Parker:

50 catches, 650 yards, 6 scores

3 catches per game, 41 yards per game (13 yds/catch), and 1 TD per 3 games...

That's 9.5 fantasy points per game in a PPR league... I'll take that from my WR5, but he won't be a starter for fantasy teams. He'll be great value and a great player for SD, but not fantasy football. Wait a year or two

I'd say those predictions are pretty fair. Top 20 is outlandish. I'll rank him as my 45th best WR just to throw an arbitrary number out there.

Ok fair points. McCardell was #20 WR in my league last year. I pretty much have him replacing McCardell or Better. I think he's a more talented receiver. So I might have overshot a bit. I do think he can crack top 30. And yes, next year or after top 20 for sure.

My predictions IF he beats out Parker:
I would not draft V.Jackson with the idea that he'll beat out Parker (or McCardell).
Why do you say that?
The starters are McCardell and Parker. There's no open competition or anything.V.Jackson will probably play a lot because the Chargers used a lot of three-WR sets in the practices I saw this year. But he won't start over McCardell or Parker, just like Whitehurst won't start over Rivers. There are a few positions this year where the starting lineup has not yet been set (safety, corner), but WR isn't one of them.

sooo McCardell age 37 + 2nd string practice in 06 = makes top 20 WR. got it.

Players dont always take over via OPEN competition. Other things happen. These are deep sleeper possibilities. And I think that given the one of the more likely or at least more possible scenerio of things playing out, Jackson has a decent shot to suprise. What else is a deep sleeper? Im not comparing him to Lee Evans as far as where to draft him. Im considering him as a late rounder who has enormous upside given his talent and situation. The fact that he will get more looks this year and play a larger roll in the offense, also probably makes him a good WR5 or so. So whats not to like? Depth and possibility of finding an excellent starting WR?

This is the most asenine thread I've read in awhile.Saying Vincent Jackson is going to be a top 20 WR because of a variety of reasons that all together still constitute a HUGE REACH, including:1. Keenan McCardell is 372. Rivers played with him in the practice squad3. He's big, but not that slow4. Player's don't always take positions by competition - "other things can happen too"...is not calling out a DEEP SLEEPER. It's completely overvaluing a guy who is nothing more than an above average flier in a deep dynasty league with nothing but crap to back it up.I'm sorry you're holding up a roster spot with this guy and expecting Keenan McCardell to just crumple away into a pile of dust and for Vincent Jackson to receive an injection of talent that will make him anything but an inconsistent possible WR4 or WR5 - please do not punish the rest of us by leading us through your house of your funhouse mirror lack of reasoning.

I'm not saying not to draft V.Jackson. I'm saying not to draft him with the idea that he'll beat out McCardell or Parker.
Well that makes more sense. Sorry. But I also said uptop."A top 20 WR easy if he gets the PT. Which I think he will. (Watch Parker move to the slot by week 3)."Now thats just a general prediction obviously. But I dont think Jackson will start the season as a starter either. And I certainly do think he's got that kind of talent. If he gets enough looks.
