Vincent Jackson (1 Viewer)

the ball was most certainly tipped so not his drop
I'm willing to believe you, but it wasn't enough to change the trajectory of the ball. It still hit him on the shoulders and he put his hands on it. I just think that should be a catchable ball for a professional receiver.
It hit him on the shoulder and he did not put his hands on it. There was no way for him to get his hands on it. It was pretty much uncatchable for anybody -- even Jerry Rice.I'm not saying you shouldn't be down on Vincent Jackson. I'm just saying that if you're going to be down on him, you should have a different reason -- not anything having to do with that play. On that play he was fine.

I see all the Vincent Jackson lovers have all went crawling back into their holes....

Yes, it's only one game... but he's OVERRATED!!! :)
Did you watch the game? :missing: Are you basing your statement on his stat line? 3 catches 28 yards. If you did watch, then you blindly have a bias against Vincent Jackson. BLINDLY.

If you simply read the statline. You approached this topic poorly.

I watched. Here are my rational-supported opinions.

Vincent Jackson played well considering he was playing the Bears. His route running was decent against a stout Chi DST. Jackson doesn't get alot off separation like the elite recievers in the league(common knowledge). What he does have is Phillip Rivers eye and confidence(major qualities)

Rivers mostly took advantage of what was given to him(nothing). Gates is uncoverable hence the 12 targets.

Rivers attempted a 25 yard right sideline endzone pass. That was almost intercepted because Vincent did not get inside his defender and did not outpace him. Sounds bad. But 2 good things happened. 1) Jackson was targeted IN the endzone(1 of 2), not the redzone, there is a difference. 2) He pushed the defender in the back just as the ball was about to be intercepted. Saving a turnover while picking up an offensive PI. Keeping the drive alive.

sidenote: Rivers likes to throw vincent jackson endzone targets outside 18-22 yards(skinny post). This is my personal call. We will see how it plays out.

Vincent caught a crucial 3rd down at the 3 yard line on a slant.

Vincent also barely missed another endzone target because a chicago defender barley got his hand on a post pattern (left to right). Double coverage, defender on his back and the safety closing in going for the ball. Jackson elevated with his hands in a scoop position(not above his head). What looked to be an incredibly difficult TD dropped pass. Was actually a deflected ball that hit his shoulder pad.

He was targeted 5 times per footballguys preliminary target stat(plug). Officially there is only 1 redzone target. It should say 2, but one was from outside the 20 yard line.

I only watched up to the end of the 3rd beginning of the 4th. I can't comment on the rest of the game.

From what I saw. Vincent Jackson is legit. Rivers clearly wants to get him the ball. He would go through his progressions LT-Gates-V-Jax. Gates-LT-VJax. Vjax-Gates-LT. Depending on the play.

Not a great day, but the legitamite prospect for TDs and yardage is most certainly there. Specifically TDs.

If you can, please provide some insight to go along with your statement. We would all appreciate it. :football:
I don't recall seeing any CHI defender touch that pass. It was a perfectly thrown ball that VJax had no excuse to drop...guy tried to catch it with his body and whiffed miserably. Overall, I'm a VJ fan and don't read too much into yesterday's game, but that one play above....dude just whiffed on a catch most NFL WRs would have made.
It was clearly tipped in the replay. It would have been a Hell of a catch.
I musta missed it again...just went back and replayed that play..no tip... swore even the announcers say it wasn't tipped. I must be wrong though if you both saw it tipped.
They showed the replay from several different angles, and from one of them it was very clear that the ball was tipped. Unmistakable. From the others it wasn't clear.
Guys...WHO CARES....let it go , it was 1 pass LAST SUNDAY. :loco:

I'd never have particularly high hopes for a SD WR for fantasy with LT option 1 and option 2, and Gates option 3 and option 4.

Overhyped for this year. Not enough consistency for me. Given he's not the possession type either, no thanks in a PPR league.

For those of you with TIVO. The play happened with 2:22 left in the third quarter.

It was shown live from the camera showing the play going from right to left. The ball didn't look like it was tipped (although it was impossible to tell). Just after that they showed the replay in slow motion from the exact same angle. The ball didn't look like it was tipped (although it was impossible to tell). Just after that they showed the play in slow motion from not quite the same angle, but it was similar. A bit closer up. The ball didn't look like it was tipped (although it was impossible to tell). Then the Chargers ran another play (8 yard reception by V.Jax). Then they went back and showed the previous play from the opposite angle. And finally it was very obvious that the ball was tipped. Hunton Hillenmeyer got a hand on it and changed its trajectory when it was about three feet from Jackson's hands. It went from being aimed at Jackson's hands to being aimed at his shoulder, and there's no way any human could have reacted fast enough to get his hands on it.

Thank you M.T....now can we put this to bed???? V.J is a big athletic wr who will be the third option in a run first offense...he will have some big games and some real stinkers , it all depends on what the defense that is playing him does.

He just caught a 27 yard TD down the right sideline. And he finally fought for the ball and beat Al harris for a sweet TD catch.I called it. It wasnt a skinny post. But the yardage is money.

Outside 18-22 yards. And VJ did not fight for the ball.

fight for the ball?

he reached out his hands and it hit him in stride, perfect pass that any of US could have caught, much less a NFL WR
