The problem with this is that the fans have finally started to voice (loudly) their displeasure at moves made just to sell tickets and jerseys. Hopefully, when Snyderatto's moves stop selling tickets and jerseys, someone might consider actually trying to field a football team instead of a marketing vehicle. The bottomline for the Redskins is selling tickets and jerseys. Their formula for the most part has worked with Cerrato and Snyder calling the shots. Snyder is essentially a glorified fan, so when he makes a move it generally goes over well with the fan base. There will be a new coach in place to make the team competitive. They'll be a perennial 8-9 win team.
When they win 8 or 9 games next year with a new coach, everyone will be back on the bandwagon. This team has enough talent to win 8-10 games. Zorn is the biggest issue right now.The problem with this is that the fans have finally started to voice (loudly) their displeasure at moves made just to sell tickets and jerseys. Live in DC. Hate the Skins.Fans arent done with mediocrity. The team isnt' mediocre. Its bad. They were mediocre when Gibbs was around, and the fans took it hook line and sinker. Give them a flashy coach and a new QB and the fans will be right back. When they win 8 or 9 games next year with a new coach, everyone will be back on the bandwagon. Ticket sales are already getting hit (the team resorted weeks ago to offering free tickets to this seasons remaining games if you buy season tickets for next year) and more and more stories are coming out about the joke that is the 'Skins front office (Schottenheimer had some just the other day). There is no margin for error with the fans anymore. The diehards that are still bothering to care about this team remember the glory years of the Gibbs 1.0 and even George Allen. 3 playoff games in a decade is simply unacceptable anymore.
Two cents:1. Cerrato is horrible. He should be fired. For year's he's ignored the OL and that's the biggest reason the team blows. 2. Snyder will not fire him and it's not because Cerrato is good. It's because he let's Snyder play FFL with the team.3. It's ok for the fans to be upset with the team and also be ready to be excited for and root for the team. I live in the D.C. area and am a live long Skins fan. I am really, really disgusted by how it's been mismanaged. But guess what, I still root for them? Why, because I'm a FAN. Just because you want to root for a team and support them doesn't mean you are stupid. Ironically, I think people who live in D.C. and hate the skins but root for the Saints or some other winning team are a dime a dozen. Here's a typical conversation around here. "I'm a Saints fan. Always have been." "Oh are you from New Orleans." "No, Alexandria, VA." For my money, I'll take the life long, loyal fans over the bandwagon jumper any day of the week. It's fine to criticize the horrid Redskins coaching and management (it truly is disgusting) but I don't blame fans for being loyal...that's a good trait.MLive in DC. Not sure if point 3 was directed toward me. I live in DC, raised in Boca Raton Fl. I'm a Dolphins fan.I hate the Skins because for the past 5 seasons its been obvious how bad they are, yet every year I get swamped with the same empty hype the fans buy into. In regards to the OL, there are plenty of teams with just as poor OLs, who still produce wins. The Skins biggest problem is their head coach. Fassell should have been hired, but the fans wouldn't allow it. When it comes down to it, Snyder does what the fans want 90% of the time. Two offseasons ago, no fans were #####ing about the OL, they were #####ing about the DL.Two cents:1. Cerrato is horrible. He should be fired. We'll have to agree to disagree then.I don't know one fan that is happy with this past decade of the Redskin's history and/or wants to continue the trends into the next decade. I don't know one fan who doesn't put the blame for any mediocrity and outright failures squarely on Cerrato/Snyder.The fans want the success of the '80's back. The fans know (or at least, very strongly believe) that will never happen with Cerrato at the head of personnel moves and Snyder sticking his nose into everything. The bandwagoners have been burnt one too many times now. I don't believe the stadium seats will fill with bandwagoners just because a new coach is in town. Not after this season. It will take proven, on-field improvement to bring back lost bandwagoners in any significant amounts.Fans arent done with mediocrity.

Doesn't matter if they are happy or not. The question is, will they buy tickets and jerseys? You guys will get someone like Charlie Weiss, draft a QB like Claussen and people will be drinking the kool aid once again. We'll have to agree to disagree then.I don't know one fan that is happy with this past decade of the Redskin's history and/or wants to continue the trends into the next decade. I don't want them to ignore the OL. I am saying I think he's done a poor job of getting youth and depth along the offensive line and that this has resulted in many of the team's problems.MMike Apf why do you say ignore the OL?
Not directed at you personally dude...I'm just taking up for the loyal fans. The implication in a lot of these posts is that the fans are stupid and will just be duped by whatever Snyder says. What I am telling you is that the fans KNOW that the team sucks, but they are loyal and support them anyway. That's what many folks don't get...they think they know that the Redskins suck and their own fans don't know it. The reality is, the fans know it and still root for the team because they are loyal. In terms of the hype, yeah that's annoying. But if you live in D.C. you are going to hear about the Skins. I'll bet if I lived in Miami, I would kind of expect to hear more about the Dolphins than the Skins...but I don't know that obviously.MNot sure if point 3 was directed toward me. Both of these points are true. Cerrato had done a bad job as GM and should be fired based on (lack of ) merit but he won't be for the reason MikeApf cited --- he lets Snyder do what he wants with players, tells him what he wants to hear. Right now the Redskins have a guy returning punts who is just plain bad at it and has been for a couple years, Antwaan Randle El. The coach decided to replace him as returner. But wait, it says in his contract that one of his duties is returning punts, so the front office asked him to take a midseason pay cut since he wouldn't be doing it. The player naturally refused so there he is, returning punts, even though the coach and everyone else knows he shouldn't be. The coach was overruled. "That's part of his contract" according to the front office. Front office = Cerrato and Snyder. Here's a Thom Loverro article on the subject from the DC area.1. Cerrato is horrible. He should be fired. For year's he's ignored the OL and that's the biggest reason the team blows.
2. Snyder will not fire him and it's not because Cerrato is good. It's because he let's Snyder play FFL with the team.
Cerrato should be replaced due to job performance. But the person the owner listens most to is Cerrato, because the owner wants to meddle and run the team, and Cerrato helps him do that. He's doing a bad job, but he's doing what he was hired to do.As we draw closer to the end of another season of dysfunction and discontent for the Washington Redskins, all signs point to yet more D&D ahead next year. The collapse of the team earlier this season led some observers to think that the powers that be finally would have to change the way the organization does business. The turmoil surrounding Redskins owner Dan Snyder and executive vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato had become a national story, with fans making public displays of anger at FedEx Field during games.
But it takes tremendous energy to hate something you desperately want to love. The perception that the Redskins played hard and played better the past three weeks in narrow losses to good teams has quieted the savage fan base enough that some now believe the organization is not far removed from being a winner.
In other words, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," as Snyder said several years ago when asked in the wake of Joe Gibbs' resignation about whether he would hire a general manager. Based on developments this week, management still believes it isn't broke.
According to reports in The Washington Post, Snyder and Cerrato three weeks ago went on a scouting trip to see Texas quarterback Colt McCoy. Now, that was the same weekend the Redskins were in Dallas to play the Cowboys, so perhaps it isn't unreasonable for the two men to go to a Texas game while they were in the state. But if the reports are accurate, they nevertheless show two men still very much connected and working together. That, combined with a report that Cerrato recently met with Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen, would seem to indicate business as usual at Redskin Park.
It's going to take more than a few losses and protest signs to change that based on what former Redskins coach Marty Schottenheimer said on Sirius radio this week. "When you send Dan out along with Vinny Cerrato, Vinny's going to tell him whatever he thinks Dan wants to hear," said Schottenheimer, who coached the Redskins in 2001 and had fired Cerrato shortly after his arrival. "Dan, God love him, I don't know that the analysis and evaluation of quarterbacks is necessarily down his alley.
"I've said for a long time, in my opinion the problem down there - obviously, it starts at the top with Dan - but [the problem] is Cerrato," Schottenheimer said. "I don't particularly respect the guy. He and I had our issues when we were there. Basically what he said was, 'Marty, Dan may be listening to you during the preseason,' he says. 'But wait until I get up in the owner's box during the regular season, and then we'll see who Dan listens to.'
"Now how's that? How's that? And of course, he was gone within the week but rehired shortly after I departed. So now, Dan, he's made his choice [some] time ago, but I'm not a big fan of Cerrato and his work."
If that is how Vinny Cerrato operates - and an indication of how close he is to Snyder - Cerrato's not going anywhere.
