Just to be clear, I don't think it's a terrible place to go. I think it'd be fun if the kids were a little older, or if you could go eat out with no issues, see bands, explore some, etc. Admittedly, I'm not an expert on what kids want to do for a week in VB though. My wife and I stayed at a nice hotel there with our friends and their young kids for a long weekend a few years back. I think they were around 6 and 3 years old. They had fun at the beach, but had had enough by the end of the weekend. They basically went to the beach and wanted to spend the rest of the time in the hotel room. I've had a lot of fun down there fairly recently going to Shakas on the strip and seeing bands. I also rediscovered and liked the very dive-y Baja Cantina. They have super cheap good food. Not a place for kids though. I never really went to the seafood places at the oceanfront much, and am not sure what's even good there anymore. There's a few down Shore Drive that were always pretty good. Bubba's is pretty popular. Honestly though, we mostly just caught our own seafood when I was there. JWB's post has some pretty good advice.
