I get that he loves hoops. It just seems faked when everything he does, including simple interviews for SC, he has the same over enthusiastic temperament, like he's calling the finals of the NCAA and the team down by one has the ball with 10 seconds left.

I'm a little more toward your guys' end of the scale than when I wrote this.

Still like him but the ads he does with the same fervor has ruined much of it for me. A lot of it is shtick.

If that were true then once he's gone they'll just hire some Vitale wannabe to fill his void.

Pretty publicized when he didn't get the UNC-Duke games this year. Not sure how it changed the game and when the game at Duke went into OT, I don't think anything was lost because Vitale wasn't shrieking something.

To each their own, I don't get what is appealing about him. His enthusiasm is genuine but so is his desire to be part of the story. He's just like an official/umpire/ref that wants to be part of the event. Vitale is just like an umpire with a showy third strike call. Not only does he want to call the guy out, he wants to be the focus as he's doing it. A good umpire is fine with calling the guy out and the focus being on the batter and/or pitcher. A good announcer is one that is fine blending into the game. Vitale is not capable of that, he's got to be part of the game.
