Davis Arrest A Case Of Wrong Identity?Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on June 23, 2009, 7:01 p.m.There are conflicting stories regarding whether Dolphins rookie cornerback Vontae Davis was arrested in Champaign, IL on June 9. The Daily Illini says he was, while Davis and the Dolphins say that it’s impossible. They may both be right.Someone carrying an ID matching Davis’ full name (Vontae O. Davis) and home address in Washington, D.C. was arrested, according to records from the Clerk of the Circuit Court in Champaign County.Davis just says that person wasn’t him. The first-round pick says he hasn’t been in Champaign since February, although his wallet was stolen before he left school to enter the NFL Draft. Davis theorizes that someone was impersonating him.The Dolphins can confirm he was in their building until at least 3:30 p.m. the day of the arrest, and back in the building the next morning at 7:00 a.m. Considering all that information and Davis’ strong denial, his story actually holds water.
