guy showed flashes of having ability ..

got in a HUGE rut in CLEVELAND and was for all purpose's forgotten the last year and half

now that he is totally 100 percent a free agent

you think anyone signs him ?

hi p.b

Oh yeah, he'll sign somehwhere. Then he'll go on to show why he can be league MVP-material, yes he's that good. Mr. Green will finally get to show his worth in this league to a team that hopefully can block and to a coach that actually knows how to use him properly. Don't go buy a Ferrari if you are afraid of speed and are just going to leave it parked in the garage. You dig?

Why not- a fresh start for the guys could be good. Could be a TJ type. I'd love for the Jets to give him a shot.

:goodposting: I always look forward to your take on Willie G.

I'm sure William Green is crushed by this news and is again taking comfort in the arms of Kevin Johnson's wife.

William Green, Mike Shanahan on line 2. Laugh now, but everyone was laughing when Thomas Jones first went to Tampa Bay.

Perhaps 7-11?

I think, perish the thought, that Green will have value later in the year as injuries happen. I could see Green signing with Jets, Giants, Bills, or even Texans if/when one of Lundy/Morency is injured and Dayne falters.

And Ryan Leaf will come back be realistic.

What kind of injury did he have? For instance, Eric Shelton's injury last year was marginal at best, he just wasn't going to make the team. If he's healthy I think he could warner a shot based on talent. The big thing for him is the bad apple rap. Of course there are a lot of teams out there that don't give a rat's ###. Think Oakland (actually could use a RB2 besides Crockett) , Tampa, Denver, maybe Arizona. Let's face it boys, the NFL ain't no church choir. That being said he'll miss a lot of looks because of the discipline problems. I would have thought he'd get another "shot" in Cleveland as Romeo Crennell is supposedly his Godfather and Lerner's wife actually wanted him to shack up with them when he got suspended.

Edit to add: I'm not saying this is going to happen AT ALL but the Brown's could possibly bring him back, if the player is not on the roster Week 1 his salary doesn't have to be guaranteed. If he's going to sign anywhere, look for it to happen next week when the $ makes better sense for the potential team.

Green will no doubt sign with someone, assuming he can play this year. How does that work with the Browns putting him on IR, then cutting him?

Anyway, he'll go somewhere, for sure. (And, I've never been a fan of his.)

IIRC it was Greens choice. He could stay on IR all year and collect his salary or he could come to an injury settlement w/ Browns and then become a free agent. Crennell said this during his press conference after the final roster cuts.

Interesting... I never knew that was a players' option.

I don't think it was in all effects. The Browns probably told him he wasn't going to make the roster but that they were going to keep him around because a minor injury enabled them too. I guess you're right though, they gave Willie an out. In the Shelton case, he wasn't going to make the team either, but they kept him in the organization by putting him on IR for a non-season ending type of injury. It was a foot sprain or something. I'm not sure what the case of jeremy Bloom is this year, but he was going to be marginal making the team with or perhaps without his injury. I imagine they IRed him to keep his talent on the squad. In the case of Green, I'm not sure he had the status on the team's depth chart to merit making the team. In fact, he pretty much got beat out and was at best the #4 RB. However, there may have been some glimmer of hope for him, or some possible need, as, say Reuben Droughns could tear his knee up in Week 16 and they could use Green for depth / longshot to play next year. He might have gotten a little better deal because of his relationship with Romeo (Godson, I'm pretty positive of this). That, and the Browns, while they've kept him around for better or worse, might be a little fatigued of giving this guy money. I know the perception of NFL teams is they are impregnable Rockefellers and Gates(es) but reveunue is revenue and a million bucks or so is still a lot of money, moreso for the Brownie's than say, the Skins', since they are a small market club and the revenue sharing problem is getting progressively worse.

I think Brown's contract was up anyway. Whatever the paperwork reasons are, I dont care.

The injury was incredibly low profile. I wont assume its career threatening.

He did beat out Suggs for the roster spot before going to IR. Although Suggs definately wasnt his former self.

If he recovers from his injury and the off field problems are truely behind him, he'll be signed. As an older veteran, he'll have to really justify his higher salary though to stay on whichever team originally signs him. Younger guys often get roster spots for backup jobs over more talented veterans due to their smaller salaries.

He could get signed to compete for a starting job for a team like the Giants or Jets, but I dont think he'd be the favorite to win the job once the roster is filled before camp. Best chance for Green to play is as a backup or maybe a committee. There are too many issues about Green for anybody to rely on him as a starter.

That tells you HOW AWFUL the Browns have been at drafting. Almost none of their top picks are still around.

:X

The media likes to make big issues like that but its unfair. Had Winslow not made a childish mistake he'd be the best TE in the NFL. Edwards also got hurt his rookie year but its obvious the guy's a player. With a change in coaching always comes a change in players to fit a different system. Denver gladly grabbed the Browns D linemen "mistakes". Does Denver not know how to scout defensive players either? Other than Brown, the other RBs selected by Cleveland easily justified their draft spots.

Who is Brown?

At least Suggs was able to make Miami's roster.
Which is almost too bad as he didnt perform in his short time there which is the likely reason Miami let him go so soon. I wonder if he would have done better if he hadnt gained weight in an attempt to stay healthier this year. That could have cost him some speed. We'll probably never find out. More younger, faster, healthier backs will come into the league again next year.

You're looking at the last two years of the draft. Please take a look at the previous SIX YEARS and list off the stars that the Browns drafted. Hell, try and list the players that are STILL IN THE NFL.

I don't see how you can possibily make the argument that the expansion era Browns drafting has been anything less than horrible minus the last two years. The only team that comes close is the Lions.

I heard a sportstalk radio guy here in Detroit answering a caller from Cleveland about this very issue - who is worse Detroit or Cleveland. What they came up with is that we should combine our rosters - then we may have a halfway decent NFL team :D

Willie has injury issues that he needs to overcome.

Im sure he will get some invites, but the "Ferrari" has transmission problems.
