Wacky Scenario that can happen if Baltimore and Miami win at 1 pm (1 Viewer)

So the NFL has announced the playoff scenarios. I'll link 'em when the whole enchilada comes out (including ties and other assorted things) but as things stand right now, the Dolphins, Ravens and Chargers are all 8-7. The Steelers are 7-8 and can only make it if they win and the the 3 lose.

Pittsburgh, Miami, and Baltimore all play at 1pm

San Diego plays at 4pm.

The nutty part is that if Miami and Baltimore both win their games at 1 pm, the Chargers will be eliminated. However, the winner of the Chargers game will determine the last playoff spot:

If San Diego loses then there's a 2-way tie between Baltimore and Miami at 9-7. Baltimore wins the tiebreaker because of a head-to-head win against the Dolphins.

If San Diego wins then there's a 3-way tie between Baltimore, Miami and San Diego at 9-7. Since San Diego did not play Baltimore and the Dolphins was 1-1 against Baltimore and San Diego, the head-to-head tiebreaker isn't used. The next tiebreaker is conference record, which the Dolphins would win at 8-4.

Weird :loco:

KC will probably rest a few guys and SD is at home trying to get a winning record. Even if they are eliminated I think SD wins.

They should settle it with some kind of skills competition. Line up the qb's and have them throw balls threw a hoop for the playoffs. That would be a lot more fun.

More fun with what's, well, an almost impossible scenario for sure.

If Cincy and Baltimore Tie

and

the Jets and Miami Tie

then

If San Diego wins, San Diego gets #6

If San Diego loses, Baltimore gets #6

If San Diego ties, Miami gets #6

Miami entered Week 16 in 7th place with destiny in their own hands; win the last 2 and they would be in. They lost to a division opponent but managed to leap frog into 6th place. However, they no longer control their own destiny. Still think they make it and so do the oddsmakers. Miami, Cinn and SD are all favored. SD is actually a huge favorite at home because Reid is threatening to sit all his starters. If the Fish win they only need 1 of Cinn and SD to win to make it.

Actually nobody in the AFC controls their own destiny for the 6th seed. SD needs a Miami loss and Balt needs a SD loss.

I'm pretty sure the Chargers and Bengals will win. The unpredictable game is Jets / Dolphins. Geno Smith has been awful at times this year, but he's played well in 2 of his last 3 games and last week had his best game of the season. Which Geno Smith shows up? The Dolphins choked last week.

As a long-suffering fan of the Dolphins, it all seems pretty clear how this will go down.

Everything Miami needs to have happen, will happen...except they will lose on a long FG as time expires by 1 point after allowing a long kick return after the go-ahead FG and then committing a questionable pass interference penalty on 4th and 10 making the kick possible.

San Diego will make the playoffs, and will be a dangerous team, with as good a shot as any to go to the Meadowlands.
