Waive Adrian Peterson to get a top RB Handcuff? (1 Viewer)

I'm in a Re-Draft format PPR league with a flex position...Our playoffs are Weeks 14-16 and after starting 0-2, am currently sitting at 4-2... Most weeks I am good to go with Foster & Ellington at RB ... Also have Jeremy Hill and Matt Asiata right now... and yes, I still have Adrian Peterson stashed on my roster.

When I look at the FootballGuys Top 200 going forward available for RB in my league, I see names like Davonta Freeman, Brandon Bolden, James Starks, Toby Gerhart, DeAnthony Thomas, Storm Johnson, Denard Robinson, and Lorenzo Taliaferro...

Honestly, I'm wondering if it is time for me to drop Adrian Peterson and stash away a high upside handcuff behind an injury prone back... Maybe like Chicago's Ka'Deem Carey or Dallas's Lance Dunbar or Joseph Randle...or SEA's Robert Turbin. I'm thinking Carey is the one to get since he seems to have the most solid grip on #2 RB if the main man goes down.

Do you waive Adrian Peterson at this point to stash one of those guys?

No way, Jose. His arrow is pointing up. Book it.

Ok.......... because from what I read AP's trial is tentatively starting the week of Week 14 ... and then the guy also might go to jail in the meantime for smoking pot while out on bail.... and the NFL may suspend him... I'm just trying to figure out if I am the last guy that actually has him on his roster still and if this is crazy.

He was joking. Most redraft owners dumped AP a long time ago. I am still in a league where someone has him but I can't see any way that AP plays again this year.

So, yes, you are crazy. And this should have been posted in the assistant coach forum (IMO) since you were asking specifically about your team and not for thoughts on what happens around his court date and if he plays again this year.

Are you kidding me? I don't even know one person who has dropped him. Hold steady. Be strong. At the very least, shop him to the L Bell and Gio owners.

Ok, I apologize if I put this in the wrong thread... Don't post around here often and Adrian Peterson is a total gray area.

So strategically... If you are going for the best Waiver Wire RB that sits behind a stud (or perceived stud) RB right now, who are you going for?

Carey? Starks? Randle? Dunbar? Turbin? Damien Williams? Juwan Thompson ?

Any of those potentially save a season if the main guy goes down?

Dont let the Thread Nazis get you down. Its a relevant question. Dump.

Curious who others think is the top handcuff.

Potentially Knile, but he's likely not on the waiver. I'd lean Blue because of Foster's historical and current injuries plus lack of competition - but I could be pushed off the spot.

No way. If anything, Peterson himself is the highest upside handcuff in the NFL right now. There's no chance that a jury of his peers is going to convict him, so he's basically going to be ready to go as of Week 14, with virtually zero wear and tear on his body.Do not waive Peterson under any circumstances. You'll thank me when you're hoisting that virtual championship trophy over your head.

If this is redraft my one thought is find the McKinnon owner and see if he has need of AP as a handcuff based on the above argument. Take the lowest hanging fruit on the roster you could use. That's what handcuffs are usually worth.

Don't cut him. Once he has his hearing and does his week in jail he'll be ready for you to use in your week 16 Superbowl game. You'll be glad you kept that dead roster spot all season when he helps you in the most crucial game of the season.

Can you say CHAMPIONSHIP?

Would definitely wait until at least next Wednesday when they have the hearing about recusal of the judge, which I expect will be dismissed.

Most people don't realize that very few cases actually go to trial. If Case remains the judge, and if the stories regarding the history of animosity between him and the prosecutors are true, then it's very likely that prosecution will want to move towards a plea to avoid trial. At which point Hardin will try to work something out with the league as far as possible suspensions this season.

It's conceivable at that point that a plea could be reached, and Peterson is fined game checks as part of his suspension and his games missed are counted towards his suspension this season. Not probable, but possible.

Didn't the Vikings basically state that he won't be playing for them this year regardless of what happens in court?

Don't have a link or anything but that's the impression I'm under.

I'd be shocked if he plays again this season.

The official stance from the Vikings is that he won't play until his case is "resolved".

Any recent thoughts? Now it's coming out the NFL could still suspend him even if he is found not guilty. My thoughts are he does not play this year, anyone else agree? Anyone holding or is the consensus "drop".

The Vikings won't have anything to play for and I don't think AP is there next year so I don't see why they would bother playing him at all when they can keep seeing what they have in McKinnon and Asiata and plan for the future.
