Waiver wire defenses (1 Viewer)

The Jets are at home against a terrible Oakland Offense who doesn't care about winning the game. The Jets want to win bad.

They might be a good option. A pourous Rams defense shut them out in Oakland and KC got me 21 points against them last week. If I was still playing this week I'd look at the Jets if I didn't have a decent alternative.

Minnesota and Denver are both available in my league... I am kinda thinking that I like the Jets better though.
I don't know if I'd trust the Vikings - even at home - against the Rams. The St. Louis offense is smoking right now. I don't see Minnesota slowing them down.I do like the Broncos at home. They haven't been very trustworthy since early in the season but they have something to play for and Smith remains very inconsistent. I like the Jets a lot this week and the Chiefs at home against Jacksonville is another defense worth considering.

I'm definitely trying to get the Jets in one league. In my other league, they're not available. I've got Oakland rostered (along with Miami), but don't know if I want to play them against a team vying for a playoff spot. Other teams available include:

Hou vs Cle

Ind vs Mia

KC vs Jac

NYG @ Was

Ten vs NE

How about the Bucs at home against the S'Hawks who have nothing to play for? Seems okay to me.
The Seahawks DO have something the play for. Not a one of them thinks they will do jack spit in the playoffs on a 4 game skid. For 59:30 they played well against the #1 team but blew it and despite NFCW caps and shirts in their lockers they were despairing and tearful in the locker. There is no coasting in for them they NEED a win to get some form of confidence going into the playoffs. I figure them to come out firing on all cylinders trying to regain their shock and awe form from last year to get a spiritual lift, otherwise they know they're doomed.

I see your point. However, if there is any indication that the Hawks will be resting their players then the Bucs seem to be a decent pick-up. If all of their starters are playing then, I agree, I will not pick them up.

From Steve Kelly at the Seattle Times whole article
Coach Mike Holmgren believes in momentum. Believes in it so much that, even though the Hawks can't improve their playoff position, he will play his regulars in the season finale.

"We're in a different spot than we were in last year," Holmgren said in the understatement of the week. "We have not won a game in [three] weeks.

"And I think it's important to win a game going into the playoffs."

Momentum matters and that means Shaun Alexander has to run with the same resolve against Tampa Bay that he had in the second half against San Diego. It means Matt Hasselbeck has to stop throwing interceptions and Deion Branch must stop dropping passes.

It means the defense has to play just as well as it played against San Diego. And the secondary, which could be without cornerback Marcus Trufant for the rest of the season, has to play better than it has all season.

A win over Tampa Bay won't guarantee anything in the postseason. But a loss to the beaten up, 4-11 Bucs would assure a short playoff season.

Even in a conference that gives parity a bad name, the Hawks have to find themselves before they meet the white-hot Philadelphia Eagles or the ice-cold Dallas Cowboys.

"Telling guys, 'Listen, maybe you only play a quarter,' I think that's the wrong message to send to the team," Holmgren said Wednesday. "When you [play the starters], ... you roll the dice a little bit, absolutely. But we've been so inconsistent all season, that I think we have to play the game."
I'm looking at WW defenses myself for my final. I have PIT vs CIN and picked up KC last week but they host JAX. Not really happy with either but TB is the "best" opton available on our WW. This article is pretty clear that the Hawks are looking to try their damndest to rout the Bucs and get some confidence going into the post season. Just thought I'd update this side topic.

Well, finally decided on Houston, only to find someone else from my conference had grabbed them (our league pays out total points through week 17).

Minnesota is available but I don't trust FBG's ranking of them this week.

Me either - especially with their injuries. I am going with the Jets over the Broncos for what it is worth.

I just can't see the Vikings slowing the Rams down. St. Louis' offense is on a serious roll. They destroyed the Bears a couple of weeks ago. The Vikings have a strong run defense but I think Jackson can run on them. He's running on everyone else so why not? And Bulger is on fire right now and the Vikings' pass defense is atrocious. Maybe they force a couple of turnovers but if your league rewards for points allowed I wouldn't want to go near Minnesota. Are the Jets gone in your league? It's hard to argue with that matchup. That's the one I went with over Denver in my league this week. I don't think they have a great defense or even a good one but the Raiders on the road is about as good of a matchup as there is this week.

Yup, Jets are gone. Also thought about the Rams with Tavaris Jackson starting, but of course they're gone, too. I think I've seen Kansas City mentioned in this thread, but their defense has been pretty unimpressive from a fantasy standpoint this season, and Jacksonville isn't a very good matchup for fantasy Ds.I've seen Brady take some rest this week, maybe go with Tennessee if he doesn't play Sunday? Or Tampa vs. a Seattle team that is 5th in the NFL in turnovers? Or the Colts at home vs. a Lemon-led Dolphins? The Packers vs. a Bears team with nothing to play for? :D

I nabbed the Texan defense when I saw Dorsey was going to start. Others I considered were the Titans (assuming NE rests players) and KC with Garrard throwing a few picks
