Thought this thread deserved a bump with the other dentist thread getting some traction
I don't even introduce myself as Dr. XXX, I just introduce myself by my first name.I had a teeth cleaning today and the gal finished up and told me she was going to get the doctor. I said come on, nobody really considers them true doctors. She laughed.
I call mine Doc just to pump his ego.I don't even introduce myself as Dr. XXX, I just introduce myself by my first name.
I know my place.
I always wanted to be called "Doc" ever since the Back to the Future movies.I call mine Doc just to pump his ego.
Do you recommend oral antibiotics with periodontal treatment? What a miracle. I'd better step up those retirement plans, this looks to run me right out of business.
Not necessarily. It's case dependent. Sorry for the vague answerDo you recommend oral antibiotics with periodontal treatment?
I get it.Not necessarily. It's case dependent. Sorry for the vague answer
Do those teeth need root canals also? 4k is a lot for 2 crowns unless you're on the east coast or something. Also, do you see a lot of bad work. Dropping about 4k on repairing old work(2 crowns) over the next few months. Months because of insurance limits.
Canal was already done on one. Got the temp in now. Well, lets see if the bill translates.Do those teeth need root canals also? 4k is a lot for 2 crowns unless you're on the east coast or something.
Our crowns here are like $900 each... with "buildups" it might swell to $1100 a piece.
I see bad work from chains. Most individuals who have their reputations are on the line do pretty nice work.
I do see when people seek out the lowest prices on things that they also are surprised to fine out that a filling isn't necessarily a filling and a crown isn't necessarily a crown. People want us to be commodities and individuals use very different materials and have very varied skill sets which lead to different outcomes.

Thanks for the professional insight, I really do appreciate it. I run the financial side of the company I work for so this is interesting to me.I don't know the Carolina market that well... but this is eye opening. This is classic in network behavior. People think they are getting a great deal going "in network" but "in network" people can't absorb those discounts and make money, so they do anything they can to make the adjustment money back.
Sweet jesus. No wonder I don't really make that much money here... I don't push any ####in' productThanks for the professional insight, I really do appreciate it. I run the financial side of the company I work for so this is interesting to me.
To round out their items they charged me 60.00 for a water pik and 20.00 for each bottle they gave me of:
09630 - Other Drugs or Medicaments, By Report
There were 5 in total. When they packed up these items for me I knew I was getting the worst of it there but figured the hygienist had to make a living too. This is the antibacterial gum cleaner the goes in the water pik. I found the bottles online for 13.00 so they are making 50% markup on that well, I am assuming they are marking up the pik at least 50% as well.
Thanks again.
Just one more bad beat for our iFriend Dentist.Sweet jesus. No wonder I don't really make that much money here... I don't push any ####in' product

Yes, she has huge ####### and rested them on my head while cleaning my teeth and I loved it.Anytime I pitch anything people are going crazy look at line items and denying stuff.
Did the hygienist have monster #### or something? How did you end up buying all this stuff?
Edit to say... I didn't mean to make you feel bad... it's not like anything they sold you is bad... the waterpik is a good appliance, the irrigating rinse is good for you.
If they legitimately took a saliva sample and submitted it for microbial testing it's definitely possible that good information on your disease source could be found.
Maybe I'm not being thorough enough with my treatment planning and diagnosis.
I'm a bit jaded because so many corporate offices and offices that are better oiled machines are much better at sales than I am.
My dad was a dentist and orthodontist. The one time I remember him calling himself a doctor was when he showed up late for a piano recital I had. It was past the time when they lock the doors, but he tried to pull rank to get in. "Hi, I'm Dr. Tick. My son is in there." He got rejected, but it was a funny thing to try.I don't even introduce myself as Dr. XXX, I just introduce myself by my first name.
I know my place.
