Reporter from the New Yorker crashed their secret society fraternity. Yucking it up at the country's expense.

Come revolution time these guys need to be eaten first. Just really really bad people. These are the so called job creators that we are supposed to love and admire.

All told, enough wealth and power was concentrated in the St. Regis that night that if you had dropped a bomb on the roof, global finance as we know it might have ceased to exist.

Yes- that's the part that bothers me with the OP (and the article in general). Sure these guys are all probably jerks, thieves, and utterly detestable people. But when you look at the firms of people that were actually there (not the ones the author suggested were members) - Blackstone, Avenue Capital, Fortress, Stephens, Tiger - how many of them got bailouts from the US Government? How do we know that those people didn't actually lose money from the govt bailouts because they were either short the market or waiting to scoop up potentially decimated banks in a non-bailout world for pennies on the dollar?

Equating the bailout of the banking system to the bailout of the entire financial industry is both stupid and wrong, but unfortunately this belief seems to have turned into conventional wisdom.
