True all class player. As a Viking fan I felt about him much the same way as Favre, hated them with a passion when the Vikings were playing them, but otherwise the upmost respect.

Growing up in Chicago, all we ever did when we had a game of Nerf football was to see who could leap over the pile of other kids like Walter. Oh and if we broke it in the open field, you saw the high stepping.

Great player but when I think the greatness of Walter Payton my first thought is always his press conference. Due to his appearance ugly rumors, such as him being HIV positive, began to circulate. To which Walter said, "To the people that really care about me, just continue to pray. And for those who are going to say what they want to say, may God be with you also,". That's greatness.

What is interesting also is that he was not a big guy. I wonder if he would "fit the mold" of the prototype RB at today's combine. You can't measure a guy's heart.
