Ward or Holmes vs Dallas Secondary? (1 Viewer)

Dodds has Ward ahead, Bloom has Holmes. We know Dallas will be blitzing, given their sac rate and Pit's sac allowed rates. So, we can expect a lot of screens and slants, right? Does that benefit Ward as the possession guy? Do we know who from Dallas matches up with which one?

I think it's the same as it's been all year. Ward will likely catch more passes and be more effective in the redzone. Holmes is more likely to deliver the big play, although Ben hasn't looked great on the deep ball recently.

And it's supposed to be cold and windy, right?

Cowboys rookie CB Orlando Scandrick has been permanently assigned slot duties, even with the return of Newman. Until now, Newman had always moved to the slot in nickel packages. It's a testament as to how well Scandrick has been playing. I know it's Hines Ward, but don't let the "rookie" part fool you. Ward primarily works out of the slot in 3-WR sets.

My take on the Pitts receivers would be:

Miller > Ward> Holmes > Washington

We are vulnerable in the soft middle of this defense. Miller and Ward are the most likely beneficiaries.

Ware should have no problem applying pressure from Ben's blind side. Ben should have a quick-release clock in his head (though that idea seems to have left him since his accident) and combined with the weather, Holmes should not get any deep-ball looks. Washington should be a non-factor and Miller/Ward would make O.K. plays. Dallas can be run on if they're not stacking the box, so I see a typical December Pittsburgh day -- lots of running & defense. Holmes only shot at being productive is to get YAC on slants.

Miller might be used as a blocker more often.

That would be a dream scenario for Dallas, unless this helped the Steelers run more effectively.Miller and Ward is what I would worry about from Pittsburgh. I'll take my chances with the crappy weather, great pass rush and decent corners on deep balls to Holmes.

Let me help here guys. I am playing Holmes instead of Vjax this week. Vjax blew up last night for 22 points on my bench.....I have now guaranteed that Holmes will lay an egg.

You are all welcome.
