Warner Head Injury (1 Viewer)

The common practice in the NFL this year for a guy getting a concussion has been to miss at least the next game. It will be interesting to see what happens with Warner's "mild" concussion. With the Niners reeling and the Seahawks and Rams sucking, it would not surprise me to see the Cards sit Warner at Tennessee, where he could get seriously hurt as that D is playing much better lately. Week 13 hosting Minnesota is no picnic either though.

ETA: How bad was the hit?

The hit wasn't bad, and what's being undereported is that he stayed in after the hit, led a few more plays. Warner seemed fine in the 2nd half, standing around talking to players, watching the game.He also talked extensively to reporters afterward- which major-concussed guys don't do. I'd guess he's got a 90% chance of playing at TN.

"I felt pretty good coming out right after halftime, but I just wanted to be smart," ... "It was one of those situations where I didn't feel perfect"

Warner threw for 203 yards and two TDs in just under a half of work, and the Cardinals held on to beat the Rams 21-13. Early reports said Warner's injury wasn't too serious, and he could've returned if the Cardinals needed him. But considering they were up only eight in the fourth quarter and he didn't return, chances are the injury could be a problem.

What concerns me is that two weeks ago, Warner was pulled from the Chicago game due to it being a blowout, but when Leinart came in and threw a pick, they put Warner back in the game, even though it was still a blowout. This week the game was much tighter and Leinart was ineffective, yet Warner stayed on the sidelines. Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but I'm a concerned owner right now.

it may be a minor concussion, but Kurt has also suffered quite a few. i know back with the Ram's when his last concussion with them paved the way for Bulger, Kurt said he suffered more concussions than he cared to or could remember.

I'm a Warner owner and I'm not worried one bit. He's fine. I actually thought it was more his neck than head.

If it's a concussion, you might want to be at least a little concerned.I think he has had a few already in his past. It's not too much of a stretch to see him being held out for a week. And if he gets another one...

Warner isn't worried, so I'm not too worried.

Notes: Warner confident he'll play next week

The Arizona Republic

ST. LOUIS - Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner suffered an apparent concussion Sunday, but he was well enough to think on his feet when a reporter started to ask him about previous head injuries.

"Easy now, easy," Warner said. "They were a long time ago. I've had a couple minor concussions. Nothing that has been prolonged. Haven't had anything in a number of years."

Warner said he hadn't suffered a concussion since 2003 when, coincidentally, he was with the Rams.

Warner didn't play in the second half Sunday in St. Louis and will be evaluated during the week to determine his ability to play against the Titans next week.

He will under neurological tests this week, which will be compared with baseline tests that every player undergoes before the season.

"We were smart with it; we didn't take any chances," Warner said. "I feel good. I think I'm going be just fine, but we'll take it day by day."

It just seems highly unlikely that Warner is not ready to play this Sunday. Remember, he kept playing after the hit- then took himself out. There was no skull-rattling hit where he couldn't remember his shoe size.

paraphrasing

"He (Kurt) seemed fine... very upbeat and alert (on the plane ride home)...a good sign...I feel good about where he is ...we'll have him tested just to make sure..."

So would you start Warner or Ryan this week?

Warner wont reveal his intentions until Friday or Saturday (thanks a lot) -

1 hit and he can take himself again, screwing me 2 weeks in a row. Or

Just start Ryan hm Vs TB and take the safe way out.....??

Warner on the field today

Quarterback Kurt Warner is out on the field for the beginning of practice and, at least by this early look, seems like he’ll be practicing today. We’ll see how much he is able to do — he could turn out to be limited — but the fact he is at least going to take part is a positive sign for his availability this week. Further updates will come later, after practice and after Warner and coach Ken Whisenhunt meet with the media. Obviously, that’ll be one of the big stories of the day.

From Rotoworld:

In a conference call with Tennessee media Wednesday, Kurt Warner (head) told reporters that he expects to play Sunday at the Titans.Warner is not one to beat around the bush when it comes to his own injury status, so this is a highly encouraging sign, on top of his participation in practice on Wednesday. Through ten games, Warner is averaging two passing TDs and 272 yards per week. The Titans lack both the talent and depth in the secondary to contend with Arizona's NFC-best passing attack.

fully practiced Thursday and Friday

Cardinals | Warner practices Thursday Thu Nov 26, 05:29 PM

Darren Urban, of AZCardinals.com, reports Arizona Cardinals QB Kurt Warner (concussion) fully participated in practice Thursday, Nov. 26. He plans to start in Week 12

Cardinals | Warner questionable for Week 12 Fri Nov 27, 04:23 PM

Darren Urban, of AZCardinals.com, reports Arizona Cardinals QB Kurt Warner (concussion) fully participated in practice Friday, Nov. 27. He is listed as questionable for Week 12 but plans to play.

This doesn't sound good.

"Arizona quarterback Kurt Warner(notes) said he plans to see an opthamologist about lingering post-concussion symptoms that kept him out of Sunday’s last-second 20-17 loss at Tennessee. Warner said Monday he’s having hard-to-describe issues with his eyes, a condition he had hoped would subside last week but never did. He said the Cardinals medical staff told him before Sunday’s game he shouldn’t play and he agreed.

Warner tried to describe the symptom.

“It’s not a visual issue where I’m foggy, where I can’t see or I can’t focus on something,” he said, “but there’s a fogginess that’s kind of in and behind my eyes, or on top of my eyes. It’s something that’s just not right. It’s just not normal.”

He said he has unusual sensitivity to light, especially fluorescent light.

“Everything I look at there’s kind of a shadow that kind of follows it that’s different than normal,” he said. “But this other feeling that I’ve tried to explain and nobody can really grasp what it is, I don’t know if it’s necessarily related to that light sensitivity.”

From a selfish perspective, I want Leinart to start. I'm facing a must-win game and I have him but not Warner. I think Matt could do well against the Vikes, since we know they won't be able to run the ball. Of course, from a human perspective I hope Warner is fine. He's one of the good guys.

Backup Matt Leinart played a solid game in a heartbreaking 17-20 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Monday. While Warner is hoped to be ready to face the Minnesota Vikings, Leinart will take plenty of snaps at training this week."I don't know what's going to happen," Leinart said."I assume Kurt is playing but I am going to prepare like I am starting."

Wow, that sounds awful.I hope he makes a speedy and full recovery.

As a Fitz owner, I hope Leinart starts earning some of LHUCKS' love.

For whatever its worth, last time Leinart played the Vikes, he put up over 400 yards passing.

I actually hope Leinart starts as well. Jared Allen will be all over the immobile Warner and there would always be a chance he gets knocked out or yanked early.

I hear you ... another 4 catches for 34 yards and I'm done. He only targeted Fitz 5 times the whole game.

I think Az sits him one more week - wouldnt be smart to let Warner get creamed vs a tough Minny def when the schedule loosens up after this week.

I'm still stunned that he didn't play at TN-

Now the Cards might lose to the Vikes, while the 49ers win and close the gap.

Sadly, the recent opthamologist news suggests he's at least 1 more week away from playing... if ever.

Look for Leinart on Sunday Night Football. Gulp.

I'm not sure where you came up with this statement.I haven't found any source to confirm that he is out this week and may not play after this week.

I think that they should obviously sit him another week. Why risk it? Especially against a team like the Viks who will have people trying to take his head off all day long. They have a really weak schedule to finish out, outside of the Vikings this week, and even if they lose and everyone else wins they are still leading the division. I think it would be silly to play him if he isn't absolutely 100%... possibly even if he does feel that he is 100% they should still sit him. It will do nothing but benefit Warner's old body down the stretch anyways to have this nice rest.

Warner, Leinart split reps 50/50

Posted by darrenurban on December 2, 2009 – 1:40 pm

Quarterbacks Kurt Warner and Matt Leinart split practice reps in half today, coach Ken Whisenhunt said, as Warner tries to come back from his concussion. Warner said he’s feeling better and the “fogginess” he was experienced is gone. Everything was fine with his eyes after his doctor appointment Monday. But Warner continued to take the “day-to-day” tact, saying he plans to play but he didn’t want to make any definitive statements.

Link? Everything I have seen has him at day to day.....far from "if ever"

Cardinals' starting QB will be determined Sunday

Posted by Michael David Smith on December 3, 2009 6:56 PM ET

Last week the Arizona Cardinals spent most of the week saying they expected quarterback Kurt Warner to play despite a concussion. As it turned out, Warner woke up Sunday morning with pain and vision problems, and he sat out.

This week the Cardinals are saying in advance that they won't decide between Warner and Matt Leinart until game day.

"You want to make the decision now but certainly we've got to see how everything goes with Kurt," Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said. "Even though he may feel great today, there might be a situation where something could come up."

Warner says he feels better this week than he did last week, but Whisenhunt wants to give Leinart more practice time just in case Leinart has to play again.

"You've just got to make sure. He could be ready to go Saturday and then something could happen Sunday and certainly once again you would err on the side of caution," Whisenhunt said. "I'm sure in some manner or shape it will be a Sunday decision."

The Cardinals have another injury concern in left tackle Mike Gandy, who has a pelvis injury and isn't practicing this week. The Cardinals have had the same offensive line for 31 consecutive games, but that streak will end if backup tackle Jeremy Bridges has to fill in for Gandy.

Cardinals tight end Stephen Spach also missed practice today while he nurses a sore knee, and linebacker Karlos Dansby, cornerback Bryant McFadden and running back Tim Hightower were all limited in practice.
