UPDATE:I have sent checks to Aquil and have spoken with both Aquil and Allan on the phone as well as having many email exchanges with them both when I ran a sports book. These are real people. My best guess this what not a scam, but the lure of easy money was too tempting. I am almost positive the money was gambled away. In which case I really hope that one or both of them get the help they need, then begin paying back what is owed. I am really shocked neither have commented in this thread.
Here is the e-mail exchange I had with Aquil and Allan over the past 2 days:

not sure what you're asking, but he just called me today and told me
the same thing (regarding stealing the money). to say the least, i was shocked.
he held the money in all 6 leagues since day 1 of all leagues, dating
back to 3-4 years ago

Probably wasn't a good idea to hitch your wagon to Aquil. The disappearance of over 15k over 6 leagues won't go away quietly.

I hope this is true and if so I will let the community at footballguys know that Aquil is trying to do the right thing by starting to pay everyone back. Unfortunately, Allan, your association with Aquil as a co commish is not a good thing, you guys are getting A LOT of attention at footballguys. This isn't just going to go away. Many angry leagemates at footballguys. I hope it works out for you guys.
It's just a bad situation all the way around.
>Aquil Salahudeen wrote to Kurt Howard
Kurt,
Of all the guys in this, I'm quite surprised to see you basically leading the charge here against me. Yeah, it's a pretty screwed up situation, but one that is salvageable.
I don't even need to remind you of our prior history in this game and the amount of awards you've received from me, especially from the beginning when i didn't even know you.
Like I said, if I get cooperation in this, I fully expect to honor my commitment. It will take some time for all to get paid, all the FBG stuff can live and breathe a life of it's own.

Why would I lead a charge? Because I feel very betrayed and stabbed in the back
by someone I thought I could trust. Why would I lead a charge? I was counting on
that money to help my sister with medicine she can't afford. So yes I am #######
pissed off that you went and either gambled away or went on a shopping spree
with money that wasn't yours.
Not sure what you mean by prior history and amount of awards? You mean you paid
me my winnings from FOG dynasty league last year? Yes that is what a commish does.
>From Aquil<oak_assassin@yahoo.com> to Kurt Howard <kurt.howard@cox.net>
No. It's not that I don't understand your perspective as you have every right
to be pissed, but to instigate all that FBG stuff serves little purpose here in
getting what you want. It looks like some folks, many not even involved here,
are out to try and impact my livelihood. Choices.....we all have choices.
What I'm talking about is the 8k that I sent to you on some other #### (note: This 8k he is referring to was a gambling loss he incurred to the bookie I worked for 3 years ago). I
didn't think I'd need to spell it out. If I were out to swindle people, then
why would I have been compelled to send that to you when I barely even knew
you. The reason is because I honored my commitment.
I feel as bad as anyone here about this, but I'm not asking for sympathy just a
bit of time to set the record straight. In the end, that's all that really
matters here as everyone's assumption of what went wrong is a moot point and I
will not be consumed by this as I'll stick to my already discussed plan to honor
this entire commitment on an undefined schedule to resolve the issue.
I'll inform you first that I will be putting together an email list of the
awardees and send out periodic updates, maybe bi-weekly, of the paid out
status. Again, as I stated, I will not be consumed by this and get into
responding back and forth daily on this issue, either in msg boards or emails.
And now, it seems like whatever I state, people want to use it to fan the flames
some more. So if that's what it's come to then there will be no responses.
When you get paid, I hope it does some good for you and your family. Again,
sorry about your plight.
Hit me on my cell when you calm down a bit....

Aquil,
I am just not sure what the money you paid the bookie I worked for has to do
with this situation? You paid a debt that you owed just like any of his other
customers did. Not sure what barely knowing me has to do with anything. All you
did was fulfill a promise to pay if you lost. Just as you were paid when you
won.
As far as the FBGs stuff goes, I didn't get involved to "get what I want."
I got involved to let people know to not
get involved with any league that doesn't use LeagueSafe and to make the fantasy
football community at FBGs aware that there are people out there like you that will be
tempted by the lure of easy money that is not theirs. I don't think you realize
how many people you are hurting. Some people were counting on that money.
Especially me with my current situation with my sister.
If you make good on promises to start paying back money, then as I mentioned, I
will lead the charge to help clear your name by letting the community at FBGs know that you
are doing the right thing and paying off the 15K + that is owed to the team owners from your 6 leagues.
> From Draggin' <oak_assassin@yahoo.com> to Kurt Howard <kurt.howard@cox.net>
The point is I paid what I owed and will do the same this time around as well.
Alright man, enough said.
