Was Saints @ Jets the best game of this weekend? (1 Viewer)

Shutout

Footballguy
I'm not a fan of either team.

I am asking this question to see if others got the same "vibe" I did fromt his game.

For the first time in a LONG time, I got an honest feeling of a game that felt like what most games used to feel like years ago when the games seemed to always pit the immovable object against the irresistable force.

Back in the day it seemed like it was always a great offense vs. a great defense or a bulldozer running game vs. a mountain of humainty D-line.

That game yesterday seemed to be about purely imposing the will on the other team and seemed, to me, to have a great flow to it.

Guess this is really a FFA section type of post. Move if needed.

Or The Colts coming back, or the Redskins OT win, or the Dallas win,, or STL was stopped with 16 seconds left in the redzone.

The fact that I can say so many games that can be debated makes the answer, NO.

What a useless thread.

The fact that the Seahawks found it necessary to come back 21 points to the winless Bucs at home disproves your notion.§

I read the point in the thread being more about the style of the game played and how it was refreshing to see something like that; not to compare people's preferences in which game they like the most (of course people will be split about that due to their own bias).

With so many people discussing in threads recently about not likeing the direciton of the game, the way the rules impact the actual play, etc, it is more about watching an "old school" game versus taking a tally of whether you liked the Colts or not.§

Fair enough.

I was able to watch all the late games this week, so that's all I had to compare, but yes I agree and here's one reason - you could see "coaching" going on, moves against moves, real defense, running the ball (by the Jets), human errors, great human efforts, flaws, character, it was all there. By and large the refs did not ruin a good thing either.

The Hawks-Bucs game was just an example of bad football and bad coaching by both teams; if you've seen enough bad football you just knew the Bucs version would come up on the losing end.

Win is a win. You can't blow out every team. Saints only beat them by 2 and the Jets only beat them by 1. At the end of the day Im sure both teams are happy with the "W" regardless.

Saw parts of both the Saints-Jets and Bucs-Seahawks.

The Saints-Jets was a better game by far. The Seahawks looked like they were in a malaise the entire first half and then realized who they were and the Bucs realized who they were. The Golden Tate punt return when they were down 10 in the third quarter was a huge play that changed the momentum entirely from the Bucs favor to the Seahawks and got the crowd going again. The Bucs went to playing not to lose, instead of playing to win. Still, that's not a good game. Teams aren't supposed to win games with a negative 3 turnover differential.

The Saints game was very good (in contrast). Most people thought the Saints would overpower the Jets with their high octane passing attack. But the thing about the Saints, is they are very soft against the run. Even with that weakness, they were stacking the box and daring Geno Smith to throw at them. The Jets were having no part of that plan, and Geno rarely threw the ball. They were able to grind yards on the ground, and that in turn rendered the Saints play action useless on offense. The Jets defense is really good when they get a chance to pin their ears back and they really got after Brees. The key was the Jets being able to keep the game close in the third quarter. The soft Saints run defense usually never gets tested because other teams are playing catchup and abandon the run. The Jets just gave the league a good gameplan to stifle the Saints offense. Run the ball and run it some more. And to be fair, there were some tipped balls for interceptions, there some bad drops, plenty of blame to go around on offense. But when the Saints can't secure a sizable lead in the 4th quarter, it's clear their defense is vulnerable.

8-1 bad? You sound upset that the saints lost yesterday.
I've been a Saints fan too long to get upset at a game like yesterday (that was tailor made for an L), and I've watched too much bad football to know that yes an 8-1 football team can play as badly as anyone. I've seen so much bad football I spent most of that Hawks/Bucs game (the part I saw with the Bucs still leading like 21-7) laughing with Hawks fans at the pub bar as that "game" unfolded. Inevitable.
