If Cooley has a broken ankle as reported, pick him up. 8 Receptions 78 Yards and a TD taking over for Cooley. Can't block worth a damn, but the TE has too big of a role in this offense for them to take him off the field.
Source: Jason Reid for the Washington Post's "Redskins Insider" - http://voices.washingtonpost.com/redskinsi...roken-foot.htmlTight end Chris Cooley broke his right foot late in the second quarter of the Redskins' game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night.
Cooley was hurt when he tried to change direction.
"He's got a break in his ankle," Coach Jim Zorn said. "It's on the inner side of his tibia. I haven't seen the X-rays yet, but we're quite certain it's broke or fractured in some way; we'll have a better diagnosis tomorrow. He'll be out for a while. I don't know that it's a season-ending injury yet. I can't say that."

Not right now it wont. Who is going to take his playing time now that Cooley is out for the season?Davis has freakish athletic skills and is a great pass catcher. In fantasy, that is what matters. Under regular circumstances we would have to worry about his lack of blocking keeping him from the field but this isn't a regular circumstance. Davis should come off of every WW in fantasy this week.He can't block worth a damn, which will kill his playing time.
Not really new anymore, but since it hasn't been mentioned in this thread, it's worth noting that Cooley isn't on IR. He's expecting a return this season, maybe only missing 3-4 games.Any new thoughts/word beyond the fact that he stayed behind to work during the bye week?
That's the story, anyway. It's certainly subject to revision based upon how his recovery goes. Also, it's not like the team is playing for anything, so I could easily see this turning into an IR trip for Cooley if there's any doubt at all about reinjuring or reaggravating the injury. Not really new anymore, but since it hasn't been mentioned in this thread, it's worth noting that Cooley isn't on IR. True. I believe the pins are supposed to be in for about 15 days and then they'll have a better idea of how quickly he can return. But, the fact that they haven't put him on IR indicates they have every intention of playing him again if he recovers in a decent amount of time. That's the story, anyway. Personally, didn't plan on Davis being a permanent solution (would be nice "lightning in a bottle") if that happened. Was just curious if there was any insight offered as to the Skins' plans on how to use him, as well as what makes him a better option than the other WW fodder than may be out there?True. I have my doubts about Cooley's effectiveness even if he's not IR'd. Foot injuries are tough to come back from within the same season, and doubly so with surgery involved. Also, Cooley is a good blocker, and they were already keeping him in to block a lot given the injuries to the O-line. The point is that Davis figures to get some receiving opportunities even if Cooley returns. I think Davis is a good play for this season as a backup fantasy TE. Frankly, I've been saying for more than a year that the should have been running more 2-TE sets with Davis out running patterns given that he's a good receiving TE, but the team has simply refused to do that.Personally, didn't plan on Davis being a permanent solution (would be nice "lightning in a bottle") if that happened. Won't happen. He's not a good blocker. This has been mentioned as a common fear with Cooley and it just never happened. This season, Cooley has been sent out for a pass 182 times and pass blocked 27 times. Davis has run 63 patterns while pass blocking 16 times. Cooley's most active game blocking was against Carolina when Samuels went out during the game. They had to adjust on the fly. This past game against a Philly rush that was killing Jason Campbell, Davis ran 33 patterns and pass blocked 8 times.Yes, Cooley was asked to block more (12.9% of passing plays) than guys like Gonzalez (6.8%), Gates (5.1%), and Winslow (4.5%). But, other guys like Owen Daniels (12.8%), Dallas Clark (13.3%), and Jason Witten (13.2%) pass block just as much. And, Shockey (20.4%) is a top 10 TE while doing a lot of pass blocking. So, I really don't think it's about whether you are asked to pass block 5 more plays or not. Those 5 extra plays weren't called for you anyway, so you probably weren't getting the ball.I just don't see Davis being turned into a blocking TE because...1) He sucks at it.2) The Redskins, despite having a pitiful OL, won't change their offensive philosophy.Something to bear in mind.... (From a washington homer who picked up Davis in 3 leagues) Their O-line is in shambles. He may be kept in to block a lot. A lot.

The question remains though, is Davis startable? We are still talking about a Washington offense which has yet to score more than 17 points in a game. 8 Receptions for 78 yards is sure encouraging however.
