Washington defense - time for action? (1 Viewer)

Washington has been the good "real" defense/bad FF defense so far, but they've played against 5 good offenses. Now they head into a stretch of StL, Cle, @Det. If you're playing D/ST week-to-week, you can almost certainly grab Washington off waivers. Trendy pick this week is the Jets, so they're probably already taken -- but I think Wash. will be better.

:thumbup:Not available in any of my three leagues - most folks I know were ahead of the curve on this. NYJ OTOH, was a good suggestion - and anyone playing the Lions, Rams, or Ravens on a given week should be an OK D to own.

Even after this week's big jump in ESPN leagues (+30%) they're only owned in 48% of leagues. So, okay, not "almost certainly," but probably.

I can tell you the Skins are ALWAYS a better NFL defense than they are a FF defense. They do a great job of bending but not breaking, but typically don't get the points for sacks and INTS. The lack of sacks is a well documented issue (lack of pass rusher, although I'm hoping a healthy Taylor and Carter could make noise) but the real issue is it seems all our CBs can't catch an INT to save their lives (especially Smoot and Rogers) Most FF points are scored by INTS for TDs. This never happens in DC :goodposting:

Exactly, that's why I snatched up Miami in 2 leagues to face Houston :goodposting:

I dropped Green Bay Defense for the Skins this week, So I'm rolling with them as my only D for at least the next 3 weeks.

I realize the Skins traditionally have a crappy fantasy points-producing D, but this year is different. They look better in every phase of the game, & seem to be improving each week. They are scoring more points, and that will lead to opposing teams taking more chances. Plus, Taylor is back this week & a good pass rush adds sacks & TOs.

I'm fairly confident I'll end up starting Wash-D the rest of the year.

Rolling with the Skins this week against the Rams. I agree they look good for the next few weeks despite not having shown much fantasy potential thus far.

Big 'Skins homer here, you're a lot more optimistic about that than I am. Working in your favor short term is that they're playing three bad opponents in the next three weeks, and Jason Taylor is returning to (limited) action this week. I'd expect to see Taylor only on 3rd downs on Sunday. The issue with them is pass rush - they don't get a lot of pressure, though with the quality of their secondary they do get enough to play good pass defense, but the key here is that their pass defense is primarily reliant upon the secondary rather than the line. I'd just be very cautious about assuming that they're a defense you can simply plug in every week until the end of the season as I think you can do better in a lot of weeks playing matchups (e.g. grabbing the Rams or Lions, etc., opposing defense).

I might stick with GB def. this week since Hasselbeck will be out and Frye will be starting.
