Watchers impressed with Craig Nall? (1 Viewer)

According to FBG (from an article at Scouts, Inc.), Buffalo camp observers were saying that Craig Nall looked the best out of the 3 QBs. I'd be interested to know who those camp observers were specifically. I had actually heard that they all had ups and downs but that Nall actually looked the worst. He had a tough time adapting to the offense and was pretty shaky. Losman had the highest highs but also a few lows. Holcomb was mediocre as expected.

I think Nall first camp was by all accounts was terrible. He started getting comfortable with the offense and was much improved in the latest camp.

Bills | Nall getting more comfortable with teamTue, 13 Jun 2006 13:42:37 -0700Chris Brown, of BuffaloBills.com, reports Buffalo Bills QB Craig Nall has been looking good in the team's minicamp, completing difficult passes to his receivers. "I've been doing this for a while now," said Nall. "It's time to start eliminating mistakes and making plays the way they're supposed to be made. There are still some things that I need to work on and some reads I need to clean up, but I'm starting to feel a little more comfortable with what I'm doing and hopefully the coaches can see that too."

I really feel for the Buffalo fans as that QB situation is SCARY...

As a Saints fan, the Nall-Losman-Holcomb rotation reminds me of the "epic" three way battle between Billy Joe Hobert-Billy Joe Tolliver-Danny Weurffel. I wonder if Kerry Collins will be added for further suspense again? either of the 4 ways, I'd hate to be a Bills fan right now.

June 9, 2006 Posted By: Chris Brown | Time: 4:23 PM ET | LinkHolcomb and Losman both led efficient hurry up drives in need of a touchdown. Holcomb took two plays to score and Losman took one play. Nall's drive took a few more plays and was technically stopped short of the goal line. Nall is working hard, but just hasn't been as effective under center as Holcomb and Losman in my opinion.
June 12, 2006 Posted By: Chris Brown | Time: 1:30 PM ET | LinkQB UPDATE: Craig Nall had his best passing day this offseason. His passes had more zip, he was more decisive in where he was going with the ball. Perhaps the light bulb is going on for him with respect to the offense because he wasn't hesitating and pumping and hitching like he had been in previous camps. He was also more accurate which was good to see, and as I suspected I wouldn't be surprised if it was because he didn't have to rush any of his throws. When he was slow to make some reads he would still try to stick a ball in a tight spot, but because his read was late, he'd try to muscle a ball in and it wouldn't get there in time or go for an INT. Today he was in a good rhythm.Kelly Holcomb on the other hand was not his consistent self. His accuracy was off, he couldn't find a rhythm and made some poor choices with the football. One of his passes was tipped by Josh Stamer and intercepted by Jabari Greer in the end zone.J.P. Losman performed well in the 2-minute drill. He effectively marched the team down the field. They started around their own 40 with exactly 2 minutes on the clock. They needed a TD and had a timeout at their disposal. It took him six plays to score. And Martin Nance had two big plays on the drive. He converted a 2nd-and-20 and the TD. George Wilson had a nice gainer too.
By ALLEN WILSONNews Sports Reporter6/13/2006 .P. Losman took the first repetitions at quarterback in the first 11-on-11 segment of practice. Losman, Kelly Holcomb and Craig Nall each took two snaps apiece and rotated throughout practice.Losman was the sharpest of the three quarterbacks Monday. During the two-minute drill, he drove the second offensive unit to a touchdown against the second-team defense. He had two nice completions to wide receiver George Wilson, and then had a perfectly timed throw over the middle to rookie wideout Chris Denney. Losman capped the drive with a short TD throw to rookie receiver Martin Nance.
by Chris Brown, Lead Journalist Last Updated: 6/13/2006 3:02 PM ETThings clicking for NallBills quarterback Craig Nall had another good day Tuesday as things may beginning to click for the free agent signee.Nall looked off a safety on one play and put a pass over the middle to Kevin Everett. He was also accurate on a deep ball down the sideline to Andre Davis as he hit the receiver in stride. That was followed up by a pass deep down the middle to Martin Nance who made a nice leaping grab in traffic."I've been doing this for a while now," said Nall. "It's time to start eliminating mistakes and making plays the way they're supposed to be made. There are still some things that I need to work on and some reads I need to clean up, but I'm starting to feel a little more comfortable with what I'm doing and hopefully the coaches can see that too."Nall feels he's understanding the plays more and it's shown itself on the field as he's been a bit more decisive in delivering the football.
Today Posted By: Chris Brown | Time: 2:56 PM ET | LinkQB Update: I wrote in my website piece that Nall looked good again today, and he did. Please don't take that to mean that Losman or Holcomb did not. The other two quarterbacks had their moments as well. It's just that Nall has had some struggles this spring and to see him doing better is an indication that he might be turning a corner. It will only make for a more interesting competition if he can pick up in training camp where he's leaving off in this minicamp.
By ALLEN WILSONNews Sports Reporter6/15/2006 After four months of minicamps and organized team activities, the Buffalo Bills are no closer to having a starting quarterback than when the offseason began.J.P. Losman, Kelly Holcomb and Craig Nall are still locked in a tight three-man race, and the Bills are in no hurry to make a decision on who will be the No. 1 QB.
June 14, 2006 Posted By: Chris Brown | Time: 3:25 PM ET |Talking to Craig Nall the other day he thought that Kelly Holcomb has been the most consistent in the group throughout. While that might be the case Losman made up a lot of ground the last month and Nall had his best camp this past three days. So while Holcomb's experience may have given him an edge early it appears to me anyway that Losman and Nall have made up some ground to the point where Holcomb isn't dramatically more consistent than they are by any stretch.Steve Fairchild had the QBs airing it out down the field Wed. Nall and Losman outperformed Holcomb in that area. Holcomb didn't really try to throw it any more than 25 yards and that's was probably smart of him. He's not known for a rocket arm. Nall and Losman both fared pretty well with their deep ball accuracy.
Just food for thought.

 Is there any doubt that Holcomb would be the "safe" choice, but Nall and Losman have the higher upside? I can't imagine Holcomb as a long term solution, so it would appear to me that if he wins the job, it's more because Losman and Nall couldn't cut it.

If I were a Buffalo fan, I'd rather see one of the others starting, even if they experience growing pains.

Exactly! Any Bills fan that really wants Holcomb to start is being short-sighted. I'd rather win 5-6 games with Nall or Losman looking better as the year went on than 7-8 games with Holcomb and having this same mess next summer.

Don't worry, you won't win 7-8 games with any of those QBs.

The Bills QB situation is one of the worse in the league, I am running far away from any Bills WR or TE this year.

I'd wait and see once one hits the preseason. You always hear how good guys like Nall have looked in camp but they disappear once the games begin. You always used to hear about how good Sage Rosenfells or others like him looked in camp but none of them were a serious candidate for starting once it got serious. I personally am not going to give up on Losman after one season as a starter. Eli Manning looked as bad during his first year and he had more weapons on offence than Losman did. Plenty of others have struggled for a while before finally "getting it" but people are always expecting the next Big Ben or Manning that turn it on really quickly. Even Peyton struggled through his first year.

If I was a Bills fan, (thank god I am not), I would hope Nall gets the job. Being a understudy to Favre has reaped good results in the past, i.e Brunell, Brooks and Hasslebeck.

Definitely a valid point. A lotta June All-Stars didn't turn into anything. I'm not ready to throw dirt on Loman's grave yet, either, but the combo of a new crew, that didn't draft him, and questions about Losman's head, make me think he has a better shot than the average backup.

as a packer fan i've watched nall play more than most here and normally i'd agree with the bolded quote above but with craig nall i'll disagree. he was in green bay long enough to know the offense front to back...every read, every audible, etc. but sometimes on the practice field he looked lost. i'm talking rookie draft pick lost at times. this is the #1 reason why he had trouble passing doug petersen in the past for the #2 job and holding off aaron rodgers last year for the back-up job. of course he looked fine at other times and even the occasional great practiceget craig nall in a game (exhibition or regular season) and he shows you something. no doubt, craig nall is a gamer. he has the pocket awareness and big arm necessary to succeed in the NFL. he reminds me of a poor mans tommy maddox a bit

i do NOT believe nall will win the starting job in buffalo. i'm just saying that the guy is a much better player in games than he is during practice

One thing that I don't think people are considering is the fact that Nall is new to the Bills. Now, with the coaching change, even Losman and Holcomb have some new cadence and plays to learn. But Nall has no experience with the WRs, TEs, RBs, OLine, etc. I would expect him to not look as good in June. Let's see if he catches up by August.

 Aside from Lee Evans, this isn't saying much. Curious though, how far away from Evans are you running? (FWIW, I'm a fan)

I think they will go with Losman. The hype seems to be pointing in that direction as of late. Here are a couple high profile quotes from last week.

Ron Jaworski: "I was very impressed [by Losman] with how he handled the intelligence side of the game. He answered everything pretty much right. I'm very confident he'll have a good year. I think he'll be the [bills] quarterback. Not one time did he say negative things about [former coach] Mike Mularkey. He's a very classy, articulate guy."

Jim Kelly's: “Last year I think they made a mistake by not sticking with J.P.. To me, I think they should have stuck with J.P., but that was last year, that’s over with. Let’s do it this year.”

Nall will start and be a top 20 NFL QB.
This is NOT my alias.
LMAO , No its not, you start a bandwagon I'll navigate for you :D I should have put why I feel this way but its not too in depth.

Hes been learning behind Farve and when given the chance looked very sharp.

I've read in different places that hes a guy who plays better than he practices.

And honestly the fact he doesnt get drafted at all whether redraft or dynasty makes him as strong a sleeper as they get.

Another obvious point is , the new coaching staff hand picked him vs the other goobers they inherited , which i see as an immediate bonus.

He will be a solid QB and youll look liek a genius if you take him i nthe last round of your drafts.

Seriously what do you have to lose other than a 3rd kicker ?!
