Weather alert for the G.B./San Fran. game (1 Viewer)

Raider Nation

Devil's Advocate
70% chance of rain with winds up to 20 mph.

http://www.vegasinsider.com/nfl/weather/

If you look at the hour-by-hour forecast at weather.com, it is raining right now in San Francisco, and it looks like it's going to keep raining all day, all night, and all day tomorrow.

This looked like one of those rare times when Alex Smith might be able to do some things against a horrific Green Bay secondary, but now he can't be trusted. I would say that if the weather is what we expect, you can downgrade Smith, Bryant, Favre and Driver a little bit, and upgrade Gore and Green.

Some people will tell you that rain isn't bad for a passing game, but it certainly doesn't help.

Make your own decisions and keep checking the forecast. Just wanted to make you all aware.

Thanks for the update..makes it more easy for me to put in Garica over Favre then! :bye:

Joe Thiesmann says rain makes the ball tacky. Making it better to throw in the rain...

Way too much info worryong about a steady rain. If it's huge wind gusts that's one thing. But rain just isn't that big a deal.

Your correct..but I still play Garica even if it was a sunny day in San Fran. :D

Doesn't look too bad to me. Light rain, winds from 8mph
for us bay area folk.... these are typhoon-like conditions ;-)
Damn straight. I live here too, and if it's not 70 and sunny I'm  Seriously though, I'd think this affects Antonio Bryant more than Smith or Battle. He's the all-or-nothing, deep ball big play guy, and he drops a lot more passes than Battle. I could see the weather distracting him most. Weather issues are less important to guys who run shorter patterns and are more sure-handed.

Ive watched almost every Packer game and I wouldnt worry about Bryant. The Packers always give up at least one big pass play due to miscommunication or something. It happens every week and it'll happen this week. I dont know if it's some fancy defensive scheme or what but usually a WR can sneak pass the secondary and be wide open while the defenders point fingers at each other. It'll happen once today mark my words. The tricky part is wondering if it's going to be because of Harris, Woodson, or Dendy.

as of 8:30 PST, cloudy with occassional sunshine, but WET WET WET!

it came down hard last night so i suspect the field and candlestick is absolutely drenched. and, just because it's not windy in the bay area does not mean the wind is swirling big time at candlestick...it's notoriously known for inclement weather.

Interesting. I've got to start 2 of Walker, Jennings, and Bryant and 1 of J. Stevens or Vernon Davis. What to do, what to do. :wall:

It can't be any wetter than the Bengals vs Ravens game last last week, where everyone was benching players because of the weather, and most players in that game did just fine.

I'd say start your Packers and Niners with confidence.

Unless it's Jennings, who I've had in and out of my lineup all week. What a headache this kid is.

Be careful about weather reports. You can defintely over react and screw yourself.

Unless the winds are 30+ MPH or there is a torrential downpour for an extended period of time during the game, the weather probably won't have much of an affect on the players.

yeah - probably will go bryant and walker and stevens....

Has anyone actually seen whether effect a game yet this year? I haven't, but I have benched a lot of guys thinking that way.

Here is my take on the rain in San Fran, don't let it affect your lineup decisions. I went to the High School Championship games last night at Networks Associates (Raiders) and because the rain was coming down mist style the whole game, there was no problem for the Quarterbacks. The kicking game seemed like the only ones that had a hard time, but that is because of the loft on the ball.

Again, if you read my original post, I say "make your own decisions".... this is merely information that people should have if it comes down to playing someone in this game or someone playing indoors or at a sunny venue. That's all.

The wind in the Philly vs Jax game was around 50 mph. It hurt the passing and kicking, but the wind in this game will be nothing like that.

I am sticking with Driver (over Evans)... here is the latest Aviation forecast from SFO... looks promising for gametime:

Aviation...previous forecast...light rain currently over sts with

ceilings lowering. Sfo/sjc and Oak will have wet runways and

southeast winds to start the day. However the front is moving faster

than anticipated. Looking at buoy and model data expect winds to

shift southwest by late morning with showers rapidly decreasing.

Upshot is period of southeast winds and steady rain will occur early

this morning with improving conditions through the day.

Screw it. I'm starting Vernon Davis over Jerramy Stevens too. Win i'm in the playoffs, lose i'm out. And i've got TWO SF players in my lineup: Bryant and Davis!

Slippery (WET) fields usually help an offense because they know where they are headed. A defensive player is more apt to slip trying to change direction leaving a WR open for a big play.

I'm starting the Madden Idol and Driver with confidence.
