Week 01 2023 who should I start thread **OFFICIALLY UNOFFICIAL** (1 Viewer)

Ok, I’ve finally got one:
PPR, start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 O-Flex

I don’t trust Jeudy yet even if he starts, so that leaves me 2 of the following 3 options:
1. Gibson V’s AZ (27th)
2. Nico Collins @ Balt (20th)
3. Cooks @ NYG (14th)

Right now I have Cooks & Collins, but I really want to get Gibson in there. Talk me off the ledge or confirm that I’m a genius lineup setter. TIA

I feel like Gibsons gotta be in there...I'd go Gibson and Cooks. I love the Football Team's RBs this week...and just in general

Agree with Gibson and Cooks. I actually am a big Collins fan but want to see that offense for a game or two until I put him in the lineup.

I originally had it Gibson (FL) and cooks (WR3) - feel like Jerruh will want to show everyone how smart he is with the FA WR, and matchup for Gibson too good.

But I keep thinking Collins is gonna go off against a weak Baltimore secondary.

Ok, making the change. I trust the sharks.

Well, in the spirit of full disclosure, I am often wrong, especially at the start of the season

Full PPR flex conundrum..

Mostert @ LAC
Aiyuk @ PIT

Starting Brown and Allen in my WR slots, Barkley and James Cook in my RB slots.
I'm thinking Mostert. Not a huge fan but he's the starter and this could be a track meet type game, so maybe some scoring opportunities.

Aiyuk seems like a fourth option on the road in a tough matchup.

Mostert>Aiyuk

Thanks I appreciate the input. I’m still torn here. Decisions decisions. If I played half ppr I’d set mostert and forget it. Being full ppr I’m tempted to play the wr.

IDK matchup dictates Gibson over the others IMO. He'll see work as a runner and a receiver in a game that will, almost certainly be a Commanders victory. Seems like the Commanders RBs are solid plays this week.

I know Nico is the #1 WR in Houston but what does that amount to? Four games with good target volume and low actual production. Now with a rookie QB in what should be a difficult road game. I like the idea of Nico but he doesn't seem like an auto start.

Cooks is, overall an underrated receiver. There is no reason he won't keep doing what he does. He seems like a safe floor guy but I'm not sure where he falls in the TD pecking order near the goal line. Still, he also seems like a better option than Nico, of not Gibson.

Gibson>Cooks>Collins

Yup. Week one is not the time to confidently plant flags.

Superflex league for QB2 (Allen is QB1): Richardson (vs. Jags) or Purdy (@ Steelers)
@Chaka think you missed this one - thanks
LOL

I drafted Richardson as my QB2 in my super-flex but I backed him up early with Howell. I'm starting Howell this week.

Purdy was on the board when I took Howell and I'm still going back and forth on of was a good decision. Purdy was just Joe Cool on the field and his product was top notch.

Tough road matchup but Purdy has done nothing to disabuse our trust.

Purdy>Richardson

Week one is tough...survivor pools too ha ha

Rolling Diggs and Amon Ra at WR w/ Amari Cooper as my flex.

RB however, I'm debating...which 2 should I start:
Rhomandre
Miles Sanders
Raheem Mostert
Brian Robinson

Leaning Rhomandre and Sanders but my gut tells me Mostert is a good start. Thoughts?

or swap one of the WR's and flex Mostert?

Thank You

I'm assuming this is a PPR.

I agree with Rhamondre. It's a brutal matchup but if New England is going to do anything on offense it almost has to go through Rhamondre.

For the other I would consider Robinson. Week one is probably the most unpredictable week of the season but, I mean the Arizona front office just hung this team out to dry. Maybe they rally and pull the upset but... they're going to get rolled, right?

If you're not sure about that I can see Mostert too. I like his offense a lot more than Carolina's and it's a good matchup too. I worry about his overall usage but 15 touches seems about right, and he has always been very efficient on an per touch basis.

Sanders is a better back than he gets credit for. There was no RBBC in Philadelphia last year, Sanders carried 67% of the load (285 opportunities). He should be in line for a lot of work. It's a good matchup too. But I would like to see this offense, at least once before rolling out any of their skill guys.

B.Robinsin>Mostert>Sanders

.5 PPR

JSN vs LAR or Thomas vs TEN

Gibson vs AZ or Herbert vs GB
I've been pretty much all-in on Commanders this week. To the point I am now feeling over-leveraged. But, I need to get used to it because, barring a Kurt Warner 1999/1980 U.S. Hockey love child of a miracle I think I am betting against Arizona all season.

Gibson>Herbert

Receiver is a tougher call. It's tough to have trust Thomas at this point. But it's probably not a horrible matchup and I imagine New Orleans will have some trouble moving the ball on the ground. There have also been zero reports about any injury issues or set backs all off season. So there is reason to be optimistic.

JSN missed some practice time with his hand injury but he's practicing in full. The issue I have is he is still probably option #3 in the passing game on a team that wants to run playing a game they really should win handily.

Thomas>JSN

need 1 Full PPR Flex
  1. Addison v TB
  2. Reed @ CHI
  3. JSN v LAR
Stack rookie WRs much?

Initial impulse is Addison because Minnesota has the, IMO, "worst" running game of the three. This is a pass first team with a good QB.

But Reed is more interesting now with both Watson & Doubs hobbled. I think that translates to more opportunities for Jones & Dillon but they are still going to need to throw and Reed is the last man standing. Can he handle the pressure with virtually no help? No idea.

As I wrote in the post directly above JSN "is still probably option #3 in the passing game on a team that wants to run playing a game they really should win handily."

This is really a guess as we have no real data about these guys so I'm going with the draft pedigree/QB combo I like best.

Addison>Reed>JSN

1 PPR. flex spot

Nico collins. Juwan Johnson. Van jefferson.
I'm pretty comfortable with Nico here.

Baltimore is a tough team but their 🥈 probably isn't that great. Nico has been very low efficiency but, of all your options he is easily the most likely to see 10+ targets.

I have been underwhelmed by Van Jefferson for two years. He was used as a field stretcher the past two years (ADOT ~15) and we now expect him to take over the precision routes that Kupp's loss vacated (ADOT ~8)? I don't see it.

Juwan is a fine player entering his fourth season. He could be primed for a breakout as the #2 target on a team that might struggle to run with Jamaal as the lead back. He probably has the best shot at a TD of your options. Of course Carr is historically bad near the goal line. He isn't a bad option but I'm feeling

Nico>Juwan>Van Jefferson

Standard scoring (no PPR).

Amari Cooper or DJ Moore?

My heart says DJ but rankings say Amari.
I think a lot of us are primed for a big season from DJ. He's performed well with some bad QBs. But we're still not entirely sure his QB situation has improved that much, are we? I like Fields and think he will take the next step but, I'm thinking I wait a week. Nothing wrong with starting him but

Amari has been consistently solid for his whole career. He disappears for long stretches occasionally but he also puts up true monsters. I think a lot of people would be surprised he managed 1,100+ yards and 9 TDs last year. He also, very likely has a much better QB than DJ

Amari>DJ

I thought it would be more confident going in this year but my gut instincts are in need of a little honing before I feel confident I guess. On top of that I went from 2 managed leagues to 5 this year and every one has different scoring and lineup rules. With all the injuries, it's skewed my sense of how I thought my lineups were going to roll. I've also never played "standard" or superflex so getting the hang of those as well as 5 different waiver schedules. Good thing work is overwhelmingly busy

Full PPR Home league- pick 3 (1wr,2f)
Lockett
Mike Williams
Dotson

Brian Robinson
Perine
ESPN has it Lockett>Williams>Perine>Robinson>Dotson but my gut says Dotson's the play this week.

Full PPR- pick 3 flex- my rebuilt dnyasty squad
Pacheco
Javonte
Diontae

McKinnon
Hall
Aiyuk
Lazard
Reed
Flowers
Stuck on the Hall/McKinnon/Aijuk vs Javonte/Diontae/Pacheco. The Kelce situation plus GB has me a little more gummed up than I expected to be.

No PPR- pick 2 (1wr,1f)- my "win now" orphan this year.
Hopkins
Sutton

Diontae
Lazard
Zeke
Foreman
Hubbard
Dowdle
Juwan Johnson (and him vs Njoku who I was planning to start at TE)

And finally, Half PPR For RB, full PPR for WR- new keeper league

Pick 1 RB
Gibson
Dalvin Cook

Pick 1 WR
Higgins
Hopkins
Toney

My other league is a young squad in a league with 4 juggernaut teams. I've projected myself for the #2 pick so kind of whatever on that lineup.

Aiyuk seems like a fourth option on the road in a tough matchup.

Mostert>Aiyuk

Am I thinking about this wrong? Should the question be Mostert vs Cook this week? Keep Aiyuk in the Flex and swap Cook with the tougher matchup for Mostert as my #2 RB?

I can see the upside of Mostert but don't think he has Cook's target ceiling.

But, sure I can see Mostert over Cook.

If Kittle is out I can definitely see Aiyuk but as more of a floor play. Because I see that game being hotly contested and low scoring. If Kittle plays I start the RBs.

Choosing between Cook & Aiyuk, I'm thinking Cook.

We start 1RB, 1WR, 1TE and 3 Flex from those positions. Scoring - (.5 ppr, 1 per 10 yards, 6 pt tds and 2 pt bonus for tds over 40 yards). Need 1 TE and 1 Flex:

TE - Kincaid, Friermuth
Flex - Mostert, M Williams, B Cooks, Sky Moore

Starting Barkley, J Cook, Pierce and ASB. Kupp is also rostered but out.

Muth and the other is tough. I might try Williams because when he is healthy he is a big part of that passing offense. All good choices.

Dang it, another:

16-team IDP SF PPR

I have a dilemma:

Currently favored by 34 with my lineup as-is, which includes Breece Hall on my bench.

Hard to trust Hall in game 1, not knowing roles, against a tough BUF run defense.

Extremely flexible lineup, so I could bench one of the following for Hall:
- Bateman Vs HOU
- Aiyuk @ PIT
- Gabe Davis @ NYJ

Am I overthinking it? Or should I find a way to get Hall into my week 1 lineup?

Full PPR Home league- pick 3 (1wr,2f)

Dotson

Brian Robinson
Perine
ESPN has it Lockett>Williams>Perine>Robinson>Dotson but my gut says Dotson's the play this week.
You're solid if you stick. I have been big on all Commanders this week. I understand if you don't want to stack but I might pull Lockett for Robinson.

In full PPR I like MicKinnon, possibly over Javonte due to lingering uncertainty. Especially so if Kelce is out. But, again going with an RB stack isn't for everyone. It worked very well for me with Jamaal & Swift last year but this isn't the Lions. Still, of Kelce doesn't play

McKinnon>Pacheco>Diontae for me.

And finally, Half PPR For RB, full PPR for WR- new keeper league

Pick 1 RB
Gibson
Dalvin Cook

Pick 1 WR
Higgins
Hopkins

Agree on Gibson

I can't trust Toney until I actually see something from him, even if Kelce is out.

But I would consider Hopkins over Higgins. Decent matchup and I don't see anyone challenging for targets.

Hopkins>Higgins

Freiremuth almost certainly over week one rookie with a lot of target competition.

Muth>Kincaid

Personally I bench Cooks because I don't think his decent floor justifies passing the ceiling of the others.

Full PPR
Gibson Vs Arizona
Cook @ NYJ

Cook has a much tougher matchup but I really like him.
Gibson>Cook

I've talked about this a lot this week, to the point it makes me nervous but I'm starting players against the Cardinals this year. At least until they prove it's a bad idea

I would probably just start Breece and pray - I think he has the most upside of that group.

PPR: Gibbs or Etienne as my flex. (Ekeler and Pollard are my starting RB's).
I’d go with ETN, as I’m just not sure how they’re going to use Gibbs. If true that he’s more of a WR, joker type, or deep threat, then it might not be great for FF.

But this is another decision that doesn’t have a bad answer. I’d be ok flexing either of those guys.

That’s such a tough call.

Any word on how he’s looked at practice? @Dr. Octopus or @rockaction or other Jets fans care to offer advice here?

He’s been limited. If it means anything, he’s on my bench. As of now, that is. I have no idea what to do, either. Go with your matchup and what you need. Right now I’m rolling Elliott and Sanders over him, but I think I’m changing Elliott. I don’t know.
