Week 1 IDP surprises and potential FA pickups (1 Viewer)

Nightly Mistake

Footballguy
I just wanted to get this one started. I have nothing to contribute at the moment other than to observe that weeks 1 and 2 tend to be the best time to find emerging IDP bargains and even studs at low prices.

Any thoughts here?

- ellison looks like an adequate replacement for Poz in Buffalo;

- toler looks like he'll be targeted opposite DRC, which is kind of surprising because DRC isn't exactly Revis;

- dallas FS alan ball could be a nice WW pic up;

Zach Diles is playing the nickel in Houston so looks like good value for the next 3 games at least. He had 9 tackles yesterday.

This time of the season has been a time to classically make a killing on CB's, who are often the hardest to analyze as a group . . .

I was a bit surprised by how well Dan Connor played.

I am waiting for word on Poz because Connor is available on the WW.

Also, I'm sure it's an anomaly but KVB with 11 tackles was another surprise.

I noticed JoLonn Dunbar around the ball a lot. I don't know what his final numbers were. Was he playing the WLB or SLB?

I agree with Greg Toler in Arizona too. He had some buzz about him during camps. I avoided him because it seemed like they were trying to find someone else to start across from DRC. Hopefully he'll stick.

Abdullah Hussain in MIN might be worth a pick up.

dunbar played SLB while shanle moved back to his original WLB position.
And the Saints played lots of 3-4, with Dunbar at SOLB.
i don't expect them to play as much 3-4 as they did that game. the were very much in the "let's keep ADP in front of us and contained" mode and weren't really putting much pressure on Favre. he was rusty and out of synch but most of the other QBs in the league won't have that problem. Gregg over-estimates the defense's ability to attack the QB from a 3-4 alignment. the saints are *not* the Steelers.

Greg HardyCarolina good stats but any homers know how he looked? Will rookie hating John Fox play him?

Every year I lose DE's to OLB. :wall:

It's a league-wide trend given the moves to the 3-4, just like "losing" RB's to RBBC or even losing 4-3 MLB's to 3-4 sets.

I agree with this. It certainly appeared that the game plan was to keep the NO stud guards uncovered and pinch Peterson in from the outside, with Harper supporting in the box.If that's the case, though, after hearing how well Ayodele (and Ellis) had been playing, I'm not certain it bodes well for other matchups down the line. Something worth tracking for certain, as it'll impact multiple player values.

I can assure you that Fox is a big fan of Greg Hardy. This kid can flat out play. He registered a blocked punt yesterday that went for a safety. I don't know the exact breakdown of the snaps, but Hardy definitely got rotated in quite often. If I'm not mistaken, he played some on third down as a pass rushing DT. He's worth a roster spot in dynasty leagues, no doubt, but you may need to be a little patient.

Wondering if anyone can provide insight on these guys (anomaly or possible trend?)

Michael Griffin, TEN S -- 10 solos, 2 assists

Bryan Thomas NYJ LB -- 7 solos, 2 assists, 1.5 sacks

Brandon Siler SD LB -- Goose egg?? Anyone know how many snaps he saw last night?

Sean Considine JAC S -- 7 solos, 2 PD

Jordan Babineaux SEA S -- 6 solos, 2 assists, 1 PD

Thanks.

dunno if James Anderson is a fluke, but Im checkin to see how I can squeeze him on my roster. lol
Hard to tell. Week 15 last year he had an exceptional game - 9 solo, 2 assist, 1 sack and 1 pd.I'm wondering if he's a seesaw and risky.

siler played behind burnett, i think. burnett had like 7 tackles. i don't know how secure his job is but siler has to beat that guy. considine is a stopgap, i think. i don't think he has a very secure starting job. yes, those are nice numbers but i don't trust him. everything i had read about the guy suggests that he's going to be benched at any minute.

I (unfortunately) have lots of experience with Considine as an Eagles season ticket holder and can tell you he's not someone you want much to do with barring a pretty major evolution in his skill set.

I'm actually friends with Sean and I like his intensity to be successful, but I also do not have him rostered. :hifive:

This. He was out of position numerous times. He probably won't be the starter for long or he will be rotated heavily. He allowed Orton to carve them up with "STUD" WR's like Brandon Lloyd and Jabar Gaffney. I think he missed a few tackles too.

Toler with 13 tackles and McFadden with 12 :goodposting:
well when u get 55attempts(mostly the short variety) by bradford you'll get that. i think most teams won't struggle to move the ball or contain the cards like the rams did for their QB to need 55attempts
Does this make Stanford Routt a good pickup for next week? Bradford will be avoiding Asomugha like the plague. Routt did ok, with 3 tackles, 2 assists and 1 PD this past week.

i think routt is a good pick up regardless for that reason. young only threw 17 passes and 4 of them went to chris johnson. other QBs will throw more often and downfield. routt will be the CB picked on.

Once again I'm going with Bullitt. Not going to win me too many games on his own, but a fairly dependable guy who'll put up a reasonable score most weeks.

Did Brandon Chillar (7 tackles) start over A.J. Hawk (zero in the box score) last week? I wonder if Chillar could be a 3-down LB.
hawk did have a tackle. that said, i didn't see the game but from what i read they were in nickel a lot of the game.
the football guys depth chart shows Chillar is the Middle backer, so I already dropped Hawk for Chillar, another big disappointment in my draft coupled with Demorrio Williams and Shonn Greene

Anyone have the story on Mike Adams CLE?

I thought Elam and Ward were the starting S there. FBG depth chart has him listed as CB

Some data to consider.

From 2002-2009, the average number of plays (pass attempts + rush attempts + sacks) per team per game is 62-63.

From 2002-2009, the average number of tackle opportunities (pass completions + rush attempts + sacks) per team per game is 49-50.

Take that into consideration when you are high on a guy with 8 tackles on a team that had close to 60 tackle opportunities in week 1. Or, take that into consideration when you are down on a guy with only 4 tackles on a team that had only 40 tackle opportunities in week 1.

i watched this guy play qb in high school and he was electric. he was a walkon with iowa and had to start from the bottom and eventually gained a starting job. great at special teams with iowa. the thing is none of his physical tools are good. speed, playmaking ability etc.but i did read a local report that del rio trusts this guy and is why they got rid of reggie nelson and alexander. del rio said he was expecting to just have sean play special teams but that he worked so hard in the offseason and had a great preseason. but i agree, that considine will get picked on by opposing offenses. i mean this guy has not proved anything in the nfl. this is his first real chance at starting in the nfl. i expect him to improve by seasons end. and i guarantee he wont lose his starting spot due to lack of effort. so i might buy on this guy only because he will be a constant target by offenses week in and week out. these next 3 weeks will be a huge test for him. he faces sd, phi, indy

is anyone else worried about dawkins? i drafted him and he was about the 3rd db taken off teh board. i mean im stashing a toler/bullit for now. week 2 will be huge for me in terms of evaluating dawkins. i fear this guy might be cooked due to his age

My impression is that Considine is a lot like Reed Doughty. They're liabilities from an athletic standpoint, but they're gritty hard workers with a lot of game sense and even leadership skills so they stay on the field and in the lineup more than you'd think they should.

I dont know too much about Doughty. But I compare Sean to a guy like Jim Leonhard.

I like the guy but he was terrible when given the opportunity to start in Philly a couple years ago. The only upside there was that he was so bad that the ended up starting a journey UDFA in his place (Mikell however was pretty good)

It's a 3-4 (Chillar or Hawk next to Barnett) and Hawk plays in the base defense so last week Hawk didn't really play(he did on special teams) but they were in nickel and dime packages the whole game.Capers often plays 2 d linemen and 5 LB's or 5 DB's fairly often. They tried Chillar at OLB a while in PS but moved him back in the middle later.Outside of Matthews and Barnett no one is a consistent start at LB. Not yet anyway.Watch for Bishop he could be better if he ever wins a starting job.

I grabbed Chung and Toler. I'm hoping that they can be a combined 5-10 points better for me than my former starters, just the sort of IDP gold mine you try to find early in the season.

Just picked up Toler and dropped Derek Cox...I had heard Cox was benched during week 1? I don't want to worry about starting a guy only to find out the coach is punishing him.

What can any Giants' honks tell me about Goff's deal?

I read where he was 'wearing the green dot' this season, which would make one assume he was going to be in there the majority of downs, but it didn't appear as if he was involved in many plays last week. Just 'one of those weeks' sort of a thing, or was he not out there as much as advertised he was going to be? I didn't get to watch any of that game.

Trying to decide how I want to prioritize him with a couple other LBs, who fall more into the vein of this thread(Anderson and Diles), that I'm bidding on this week.

Don't know if you've visited the Rocky thread on the first page here, but I'm highly sold on McIntosh. He's been a very solid linebacker for years and is just now in a scheme where he will get plenty of opportunities and didn't come off of the field in week 1. He is a high end LB2 in tackle heavy leagues, IMO.
