Week 16 DEF Waiver Wire Possible Gems (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
I know it's only Monday morning but it's never too early to prepare for our upcoming Week 16 where if you're reading this, you made Finals of your league.

Here's what I'm looking at to fill in the DEF spot for my Championship match;

Falcons vs. Bills

Giants vs. Panthers

Chargers at Titans

Colts vs. Jets

and yes... even

Browns vs. Raiders

Thoughts on rankings?

1. ARI vs. StL (who's Rams' QB this week?)

2. SF vs. DET (Who's DET's QB this week?

3. CIN vs. KC

4. ATL vs. BUF (who's BUF's QB this week?)

CLE vs OAK - this seems real chancey, JaPorkus or no. So do the rest.

Note: These are not settled, still thinking upon it, hence I'm reading this thread.

Also ARI's DST has not been as sharp - esp. vs DET - as I would have hoped.

Both StL & DET put up better than expected offensive showings, so did KC.

I think we need to throw the Cowboys on this list after the abomination the Redskins put up tonight. The Cowboys are playing for a playoff spot and the wheels are falling off on the Redskins.

I've got the Falcons and the Giants or I could pick up the Cowboys off WW. I'm leaning toward Giants but nothing is concrete at this point. I'll wait and see what happens with starting QB's. After tonight's game I'm leaning heavy on going with the Giants.

AZ didn't look that great against DET, but the coach has got to fire them up for this one, right? Says he wants to start a hot streak going into the playoffs, got to think they're a decent option, don't you?

The 9ers, at home and pissed off after a poor showing in Philly, against the Lions with either Stanton or Suckpepper at QB, would appear to be a nice spot play this week.

I agree, they are avaliable in my league, it clearly looks like the redskins are done for the year. Jason Cambell is showing the heart of a lion out there, unfortunitly his team mates are playing like the lion from the wizard of OZ. National television, fighting for a payoff spot, they could bury the skins early and rack up some nice points in a FF championship game.

i think part of the reason the Redskins were so awful was because they were dealing with a leadership change during the week. They were not only playing the Giants, but also auditioning for Bruce Allen. Too much to deal with. I think the Skins put it together this week and play a bit more decently against Dallas.

If that was an audition, i look forward to the encore performance. Allen is evaluating his staff and looking at what he has to deal with going forward. i do not believe he is concerned with play calling and schemes at this point. He probably has written this year off, 2 games left, hell he is probably secretly hoping they lose out so he has a better draft pick for 2010. Atleast that is what I am hoping for. When they ran that fake FG after the Giants took the TO to prepare for it, he reached for the asprin bottle, shook his head and signaled the waitress to bring another round for his table.

Anymore thoughts on this? I'm still leaning toward the Giants, they are starting to look more like the D they should have been all year. And with Bradshaw getting more touches the defense should get plenty of rest.

Both StL and Det were at home last week, and the Cards were on the road. It seems like defenses generally play much more fired up at home, especially when you're trying to pick an average, sleeper type D to blow up in a given week (i.e., 49ers at home when they dominated the Falcons, Titans at home v. Rams two weeks ago, etc.). Fortunately, all the teams you have ranked are at home this week.

:lmao: I'm seriously considering playing the Niners vs Det instead of the Ravens vs Pitt

dude thats a no-brainer. SF is a great start this week.

Ravens have some injuries and Pitt isn't an offense to mess with. Go with SF.

Philly D at home vs. Denver or SF D vs. Lions?

My league gobbles up DSTs like crazy, so there's not much on the wire. Two possible options though are ATL vs BUF, or CLE vs OAK. The Browns have actually played decent the past couple of weeks. Any thoughts on them?

Falcons D or Cowboys D...? I guess I'll go with the one with worser weather this weekend. How's Demarcus Ware doing?

Yeah good thought on that.Update:

Brohm is starting for BUF.

Anyone see Cincy DST as a superior play here? I probably have them No. 4 from the above now.

On DAL, WAS is at home and they had been doing pretty well offensively until last night; do they really quit 2 weeks in a row?

Anyone like GB to rebound @ home vs. SEA?

the hawks' O has been very rough and i'm having visions of a Hass pick 6 or two (ala that playoff game where he guaranteed the win in Lambeau)

also like CIN @ home vs. KC

and the darkhorse would be ATL w/ Brohm starting - but i don't know if I can trust them in a SB.

CLE is all about Cribbs returning kicks. They just let KC drop 30+ on them after a solid performance vs. PIT.

Philly and San Fran are on your WW? I would be all over the Niners this week.
No I played Philly all year but picked up 49er D three weeks ago in case I made to to our Superbowl to play the matchup.Philly D wasn't playing as well then but have come on strong so now I don't know who to play..ugh.

I think one of them has some small guy (#10 iirc) returning (the what should be numerous) punts from DEN. $

I'm going to try and grab the Browns but I'm very reluctant to play them. I know they'll clamp the defense on Oakland and you're talking about an awful West Coast team traveling to potentially icy weather. You can't really look at the shootouts vs. Detroit and KC which are both on the road; the Browns keep scoring down at the Dawg Pound.

However...Broncos had one of the most consistent scoring defenses in the league and got just a lucky INT off of Charlie Frye and couldn't stop Jamarcus "$70M off a good combine showing" Russell in the final drive. I don't want to risk a back-to-back championship on a play I could regret. The only thing that still makes me think the Browns are the way to go this week is my other options are pretty weak: Pats (home vs. Jags), Broncos (fool me once...), and Titans (who have a bad matchup and I'm likely dropping them for Browns).

I'd be interested to see who takes the ugly orange plunge as the weekend draws near.

I have CIN as my def (CIN vs KC)

this is what on WW i am torn between phi and cin

TEN vs SD

Phi vs DEN

Dal @ WAs

CAR @ Nyg

SD @ TEN

OAK @ CLE

CLE vs OAK

I picked up ATL but I don't think I'll have the balls to start them. I'll probably end up rolling with Philly.

Here's what I have:1. ARI vs. StL (who's Rams' QB this week?)2. SF vs. DET (Who's DET's QB this week?3. CIN vs. KC4. ATL vs. BUF (Brohm @ QB)5. DAL @ WAS- I think the rest you have are real iffy.- And I don't get folks going for OAK or CLE, I think there could be some offensive points scored there.- Philly's been great all year, and they're at home, but I'd say shoot for a total mismatch if you can. I can tell you I've had CIN this year and they underwhelmed in what should have been great mismatches vs OAK, CLE, & DET. They did well and held the score down but should have gotten more, lack of sacks and TO's.

Big Mike, SF was DOMINATED by ATL (10-45), not the other way around as you indicate in your post. Just sayin'.

Really? Chargers at Titans? I'd be pretty shocked if the Titans win that game. But I'll be floored if the Chargers D shuts down LBJ. With the Titans at home and rolling, I think there are going to be some points scored by both sides in this one.

One team that keeps getting left out here is the Giants, at home vs Carolina.

That might be a sneaky play: any thoughts on them?

Are they *back*, or was the Skins game just the Skins imploding????

Moore played well vs the Vikes but playing at Giants stadium with the Giants needing 2 wins for the playoffs is a whole other deal.

Just picked the Cowboys off the ww. Also have the CIN D who I picked up a few weeks ago just for this matchup at home vs KC. Having second thoughts about CIN however considering the distraction of Chris Henry's funeral this week and the emergence of Jamaal Charles on the KC side of the ball. Any thoughts on who's the better start - CIN at home vs KC or the Cowboys at WAS?.

I like CIN there better.Have no idea what WAS will do this week; they looked terrible vs the NYG but looked good before then, they may have just fallen apart.Ranking at this point?ARI vs StL - Null starting?SF vs DET - Stanton starting, is that good or bad?ATL vs BUF - Brohm startingCIN vs KCDAL @ WASNYG vs CAR - starting to like this one...Just curious: are people benching Denver @ PHI and Baltimore @ PIT for any of these???

I posted earlier in this thread that I was considering playing San Fran over Baltimore. Well, I was wrong, one of the semi final losers picked up San Fran last week, I missed out by not paying attention/acting quick enough. I did pick up Atlanta, and am considering who to play between Atlanta nad Baltimore. To add more confusion to the mix, the guy that picked up San Fran dropped Philly, so I have that option as well. I'm struggling with separating my Bronco alliance with my fantasy common sense. I'm not sure who is the best play between those 3 teams, and there is $175 payout difference between 1st and 2nd place.

I had Denver and the Jets, but am adding the Falcons D. I may start them over the Jets unless I find out a bunch of Colts starters are sitting. In that case, the Jets D becomes much more attractive.

I think hes talking about SF at home vs the Cardnials. The Niners crushed the Cardnials at home in a very impressive defensive display. Im rolling with them at home vs Detroit without Stafford and Kevin Smith.

Do you like CIN(def) better than Phi (def) vs DEN

the browns & the raiders are available.

i am oicng up the browns and may play them.......

i currently have ten(who just lost 2 LB's) & sea.

I had TEN and PIT but picked up CLE to start for me in the Championship game. DST pickings are slim.

I started stockpiling Ds a couple weeks ago to block my opponents. I'm deciding between SF, Cinci and Arizona. Cards are probably facing the worst opponent, but I don't trust them to put up big numbers (they were mediocre last time against the Rams). Cinci is probably the best overall defense, and KC has been giving up lots of points to opposing Ds in recent weeks.

But I'm thinking I'll probably roll with the Niners. They've been pretty schizo all year, putting up big numbers against crappy teams and getting spanked by good ones. Since the Lions definitely fall into the former category, I think SF is the play. But I may change my mind to Cinci before Sunday.
