I needed my opponent to score less than 36 points on MNF to wrap up a victory. Meachem, Hartley, and Gore.
When SF got the ball back with roughly 1:30 to go in the 4th quarter, I was up by 11. They kept Gore in to block, throwing the ball downfield to Crabtree and Vernon Davis. "Locked up," I said to myself.
Too bad the Saints defense is awful, and even without timeouts SF had plenty of time available to them-- their whole playbook was open. They're in the redzone. I'm still up by 7. A minute left in the game. Alex Smith scrambles for like 9 yards. Gore is sitting on 104 yards, so if they can get it to the 5 yard line, Gore can only feasibly score 6 points (since 104+5=109, and we don't use decimal scoring).
Smith passes to some guy who runs out to the 4, yay! Except apparently this jackass didn't step out at the 4- he stepped out at the 7. F***. Next play, or not, whatever….handoff to Gore. TD. Tie game.
But wait! If they don't make this two-point conversion, New Orleans will probably get the ball back-- barring a successful onside kick by SF-- and run down the clock. Hey, a tie is better than a loss, amirite?
Pass to Vernon Davis….stopped short! YES!

####!!!!!
How can I win this? Well, maybe it goes to overtime….SF gets the ball, and Gore fumbles on the first possession (-2), and Brees throws a bomb to Colston. TD, game over, no extra point needed. Tie game.
By the time I had finished thinking of different ways I could theoretically pull out a win, Hartley had kicked the game winning field goal.
I hate this game.
