Vernon Davis, TE SF
News: 49ers TE Vernon Davis, who came into Week 8 against the Broncos as questionable with an ankle injury, didn't last long as he exited in the first half because of the injury. Davis had one catch for 12 yards before leaving the game. His return is listed as doubtful. Davis entered Week 8 riding a four-game touchdown streak.
Analysis: Davis' absence is a huge blow for the 49ers, especially since QB Troy Smith made his first start in place of the injured Alex Smith in Week 8 and could have used Davis for the entire game since he is one of the team's top threats in the passing game. Davis hasn't missed a game since the 2007 season, so he is lucky that the bye week comes at an opportune time. The 49ers return to action in Week 10 against the Rams, so Davis gets some extra time to rest. He is usually a must-start Fantasy TE when healthy.
