Week 9 WW Pickups (1 Viewer)

Andre Brown scored a TD in each of his final 5 games played last year. I find it hard to imagine he wont be getting the same goal-line looks.

Agreed. I went ahead and picked him up along with Wright last night. We only get 15 add/drops and I was at 11. I passed on Starks as a quick fix this week for Brown's more long term outlook. The Giants seem to be turning the corner & still have life in a very bad NFC East.

I really think can Brown can step in and be a top 20 back thru the last 7 weeks. I went WR top heavy leaving me quite thin at RB. I have the Megatron (#1WR), Dez (#2), and Gordon (#15) as my WRs. A playee like Brown could put me over the top down the home stretch. There are no playoffs in my league so its a race for wins thru week 17.

Torn between Pryor and Locker for this week, and with an eye towards backing up Kaepernick going forward (who has been erratic). Could imagine a matchup play somewhere down the road for one of them.
If you are looking for a tie-breaker, Locker has a much better fantasy play-off schedule.
For this week alone, Pryor >>>>>>> Locker.
Nope, For ROS Pryor is still better.

I'm in a similar boat and picked up Brown last week.

Outside of Demarco Murray I have no RB's and extremely WR heavy. Brandon Marshall, Demaryius Thomas, Josh Gordon .... If i can add a healthy Brown and Demarco to that...along with Luck and Matt Ryan as a flex I'm solid.

For all of our sake lets just hope Brown can stay healthy and put together a run. Inb4 hype train

Yes sir. That is the way to do it. Get in on these guys on the basement floor instead of when all the guppies hop in on the ground floor :pickle:

I'd be shocked. He better keep running for 100 yds a game then...

LaVon Brazill (IND - preemptive)
This is the guy I'm keeping a close eye on. For some reason, he strikes me as someone who can just blow up if given an opportunity.
Much ado about nothing. Indy is determined to run, run, run, when not facing explosive offenses like Den. TY with superior talent to Brazil disappeared on a weekly basis as the #3, why would anyone think Brazil would fare any better?

I wasn't precluding that. I was saying if it's a Bye week deal alone then there is no comparison. I actually like both a lot ROS.

If Philly isn't competitive, Pryor < Locker this week. Raiders are shutting it down when they get a lead. Happened vs JAX, vs PIT, and in the 2nd half vs SD. Pryor got his in the 1st half vs SD, but he did nothing vs JAX, and did nothing passing vs PIT.

PHI is as bad a pass defense as SD, while PIT is good and nobody needs to pass on JAX. But if it's Barkley, I'd go with Locker. If it's Foles, I'd hope for the vs TB version not the vs DAL version and go with Pryor.

Griff Whalen is the pickup at WR if you're trying to hit at WR in the Indy pass game.
Well he makes the all-name team, that's for sure.
Sounds like hes played great in preseason.. he is consistent, and has a good report with Luck. Maybe there is something here..

Whalen had nine preseason receptions for 91 yards, ranking second on the team after topping the club with 12 preseason receptions in 2012 for 125 yards and a touchdown.

“(He) knows every intricacy of the offense, so he’s able to play fast and he’s got a great set of hands,” said Pagano.

Said Luck, “(I’m) very excited for Griff. (It’s a) good chance for him. He’s always been ready and ready to roll.”

Whalen feels his fluency with Luck and the offense, which includes coordinator Pep Hamilton, was a plus for the move being made.

“Definitely. There’s so much history (between us), kind of understanding each other. You never know when it comes in handy, it does a lot,” said Whalen. “With how much experience I have, I’m hoping I can step in right away and not have a big drop off. I’m good to go. I’ve been doing it all year, training camp and the start of the season. It’s enough time to get back into it.”

Joique Bell is sitting on my WW. He needs to be picked up right? If anything else just to keep the Bush owner from getting him.

You never know. Manningham had superior talent to Cruz, right? And In 2011, he was pretty average (before getting hurt) and then Cruz came in and blew up. Not to mention ,just like people did with Manningham back then, they were calling T.Y. the next big thing.

Brazill is more likely to bust than he is to become Cruz, but I don't think that's a good way to judge a player.

In regards to Whalen, I don't see a practice squad slot guy with no big play ability coming out of nowhere and blowing up out of the gate. So, if he emerges as the #3 guy, I don't want no parts in that.

So after posting my post above, I googled and found this article online. It's from some Joe Schmoe, but nonetheless they are very similiar. It's also worth noting, Cruz's 4.47 40-time is from UMass pro day whereas Brazill's 4.48 40-time is from the NFL Combine. Not to mention, they both have Mexican last names (just kidding....or am I?).

New York Giants Signed Victor Cruz as Free Agent After He Went Undrafted

The New York Giants signed Victor Cruz out of UMass as a free agent in 2010, after he went undrafted in the 2010 NFL Draft. At UMass, Cruz, who is 6' and 200 lbs, caught 131 passes for 1,958 yards and 11 TD's, with a 15.0 yards per catch average. Victor Cruz ran a 4.47 time in the 40 yard dash at a UMass pro day prior to the 2010 NFL Draft.

LaVon Brazill is Similar Type WR Who Played College Football at Ohio

LaVon Brazill, who is 5' 11" and 191 lbs, played college football for the Ohio Bobcats. In his senior year, Brazill caught 72 passes for 1,150 yards and 11 TD's, with a 16.0 yards per catch average.

I'm a Rutgers college football fan, and I watched LaVon Brazill play against us in 2011. In the game, Brazill had four catches for 74 yards and a TD.

He looked pretty good to me, and then I watched him play a few more times this season, including in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. LaVon Brazill was the MVP of that bowl game, after he caught eight passes for 108 yards and a TD, as Ohio defeated the Utah State Aggies, 24-23.

At the 2012 NFL combine, LaVon Brazill ran the 40 in 4.48 seconds. He's being projected as a possible seventh round draft pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, but there's a pretty good chance he will go undrafted like Victor Cruz did.

LaVon Brazill Could Be Another Victor Cruz Type WR in the NFL

Given all the similarities between Victor Cruz and LaVon Brazill, they both played for smaller conference teams in college, similar height and weight, similar college stats, and similar speed, can LaVon Brazill end up being a Victor Cruz type WR for a NFL team.? I think he can.

Starks can easily have an RB2 game against CHI this week. I was 15 minutes late to pick him up in my (competitive money) league.

May get laughed out of the room for this, but if you're in need of a bye week WR (or just a WR for the rest of the way) take a look at Ted Ginn. Found him floating on the wire in my league and I pounced. Extra bonus if you get return yardage. He just looks like a different player in Carolina than he was in SF... like the guy he was supposed to be when he was drafted in the top 10. He's still one of the fastest players in the league, and it looks like he's running better routes. He still has drops (dropped a sure-fire TD against Tampa on a 50+ yard bomb), but for the most part he's emerged as the complement at WR that Carolina has been looking for since Moose retired.

His game log:

Wk 1 - 1 / 10 yds

Wk 2 - 3 / 62 & 1 TD

Wk 3 - 3 / 71 & 1 TD

Wk 5 - 4 / 78

Wk 6 - 2 / 24

Wk 7 - 2 / 34

Wk 8 - 5 / 80

He's still inconsistent, but he's running more routes, and taking more and more of the receiving pie in Carolina. While LaFell plays more snaps, it's due to his blocking prowess. Ginn has emerged as Cam's #2 WR behind Smitty (though you could argue he's behind Olsen in the pecking order as well).

I'm not necessarily saying the guy is a home run threat.

He'll be working in the slot, with a QB who knows him and trusts him, in a system he's familiar with, with a coach who knows him and trusts him calling the plays.

Sometimes, it's as simple as that.

Two relevant quotes on Whalen:

“(He) knows every intricacy of the offense, so he’s able to play fast and he’s got a great set of hands,” said Pagano.

Said Luck, “(I’m) very excited for Griff. (It’s a) good chance for him. He’s always been ready and ready to roll.”

Pretty good chance that TY will run a lot of the Wayne slot routes. The playing time vacated by Wayne is more likely to be filled by whomever can be effective on the outside. I don't see Whalen leapfrogging Brazill, at least not initially. If DHB is out with the hammy, Brazill and Whalen will both have to play a lot.
