Weird Feeling (1 Viewer)

It could be as simple as Maplewood doesn't have a Legion...but I dont know. For us, the varsity coach coaches the VFW....so I dont know if they have rules about that or not.
I know in California they did away with the contact rule a few years ago.  You can have contact with your players 12 months a year.

We've reached a crossroads.  We won a b level tournament this weekend. Yay.  We are a town team. Our league is trying to mandate we play in some crappy league.  The majority of our parents prefer only tournaments.

We've been offered to become a club team for our age level.  Only 5 or 6 would make it if they chose to be on the team.  We're nervous about either decision
Seems strange that a league has any say in what you can or cannot do as a team unless you are a part of that league....but then you would already be in a league so I don't understand why they are forcing you to go to some different league.

We started our travel ball team a couple years ago and it is separate than the local little league.  We are independent and play wherever and when ever we want.  If want to just do tournaments we just sign up for the tournaments we want to play.

I understand the point of the rules, but its ridiculous. Any coach can be in contact with any player if they really want to. No point in looking for trouble IMO.

We are a town travel team.   we are "independent" in funding but have use of the town fields and fall under the town insurance.

The old timers and some newer members see travel as rec +  , where we treat travel as "club" with town kids.  And that has our league board all bent out of shape because we dont' want to play in a local league and play at a lower level.

So the league is trying to bring in the travel teams and have the funds go through the league and meet certain guidelines for the team (independent evaluators pick the team, board members help pick the team, coach doesn't pick the final team alone, stuff like that)

Our "club" teams would be completely independent.

So we go

rec,  town travel ,  club

If that makes sense

Makes sense but it adds difficulty.  We just started our team completely independent and asked players that wanted something more than Little League (our local league is terrible talent wise).  We got our own insurance (rather cheap) and have access to a city field for practices.  We asked boys that we knew that had reasonable parents to limit problems and it has gone well for the 2+ years we have done this.  Our parents cover costs ($500 for the year - we play Feb-August).  We schedule tournaments as we want, as well as friendlies with local teams that we have gotten to know through tournaments.  Last year we played 50 games and the boys really improved - especially compared to the kids that stayed and played just little league.  It was also nice that we control the game schedule so we can work in vacations and off time as we need it over the course of our "year".  We try to play 2 tournaments a month and another weekend of a doubleheader if it works out.  Gives everyone some time for other things too.

Since you are tied to the "town" league for the fields it makes it more difficult for you to breakaway.   The key is to find good parents and kids otherwise life becomes hell fast.  I would rather have a lesser player that is a good kid with good parents than a stud player that has crappy parents and bad attitudes.  I wish you luck.

I agree 100% thats what is making this a tough decision because 90% of our parents are awesome.   Thats about what our schedule is currently and setup BUT the town program doesn't like it.

We say if everyone is on board why do you care what torunaments / league we may or may not play in. We are playing in 9 tournaments this year.  We some scrimmages sprinkled in.

This team won the Nationals 10UC level last year.

We won a B level tournamnet in the fall and just won another one.   So we are wining with what we have yet the "town league board" is "upset"   MAKES ZERO SENSE>

Hijack!!!!!

We won our last 2 tournaments!!!!

Made the semi finals in our first.

The teams in our first tournament were much better.

This past weekend we played way down to our competition on Saturday and almost lost to 2 meh teams.

We roled Sunday though.  THe finals game was a great game - we won 6-2

I don't know if we should start another thread but little belljr hit a ball approximately 220 feet for her first "official" home run.  She has a bunch of others on fields with no fences but this one was legit.

Her second at bat she hit the top of the fence.

Look at her!!!! :P
