Welker confirmed ACL/MCL tear (1 Viewer)

Seems a bit speculative, as the severity isn't really known. Probably won't be until training camp until we get a better idea of his prognosis.

Boomer Esiason thought you won't see him at all next season. (interview on WEEI in Boston)
I don't place much weight on Boomer's medical opinion. Braylon Edwards did it. He tore his mid December and was back at the start of preseason. Everyone's different but its typically a 6-9 month injury before you see the field again. May wear a brace and may not have quite the same quickness out of the gate but we'll see.

As a dynsaty owner, I would expect him to start the season on the PUP. I'm reservedly hopeful that he'll come back full speed week 7 and be productive. More likely, a slow burn-in starting in week 10 through week 14. Healthy and productive around fantasy playoff time; not much help to those of us for which he is a cornerstone! Bleh.

Fruitty I agree with you. However the style of play that Welker relies on is drastically different than a Braylon Edwards type player.

I know what you're saying but he's got nearly 8 months until the season starts. I wouldn't be surprised to see him miss the 1st 6 games on the PUP list. Also wouldn't be surprised to see him out there opening day with a brace on. He might not be the same player out of the gate but barring a setback in rehab i would be surprised to see him miss the season.

Heard Brady's interview talking about Welker, and brady stated how hard of a worker Welker is. At least Welker owners know he's gonna bust his rear in recovery......

frankly since i like welker and have him in a dynasty league.

i would rather he be on the PUP list and come back in like week 9 or 10 at 95% strength then try and come back early and tweak the darn thing.

plus there are always different severities, i.e. full tear, torn, etc.

severity of the acl damage doesnt even matter. they gonna take the ligament out and replace it with patella or muscle tissue. its pretty much the same across the board. ulterior issues would be damage to other ligaments and damage to cartilage and meniscus which is common in these sort of injuries.
