For the first time since I acquired him as a rookie, I have benched a non-injured Tomlinson for his upcoming game with PIT.

All good things come to an end; and it looks like the handwriting is on the wall. Michael Turner and Hightower look like better options at this point. However, I am surprised that SD hasn't used him more in the passing game.

This is the second week I will have benched LT. I benched him against the Pats because I had better matchups. The good news is he has a pretty cake schedule after the Steelers. Colts, Falcons, Raiders, @ Chiefs, @ Bucs, Broncos. There isn't a top 10 Run D in the bunch. In fact, other than the Bucs all of those Run D's are in the bottom third of the league....

I have thought about this, too. I have T. Jones and he seems a must start. So it comes down to Addai or LT...if Mr. Gimpy is hurt again, then I'll have to start LT and pray.

That's great. He had a cake matchup last week against the worst run D. 11 points doesn't cut it. The guy was great but alas...

I either start LT or start Owen Daniels. LT is the obvious choice since he can catch as well as run the ball.

I could see , barely , benching LT for another Top Tier back with a great matchup .......but what about Hightower sold you that he was capable of outperforming LT .....?? :goodposting:

LT is going against PIT, which is #2 defense against the run, and has allowed 3 rushing td's. Hightower is going against SEA, which is #22 against the run, and has allowed 8 td's.

The 49ers are #21 against the run and have allowed 10 TDs. Hightower averaged 1.7 yards per carry against them and didn't score.

So? Does this mean Hightower will never average more than 1.7 yards? Does this mean that the Niners are now the premier running defense in the NFL?Have you heard of statistical variability? Hightower may or may not outpoint LT this week. You pays your money and you takes your choice.

I bought LT earlier this year. I'm not sold that LT is done, despite mounting evidence. The think is If I was to bench him my options are Norwood or Selvin Young. I'm kinda married to him at this point.

Well, I don't think he's done. The point is, ever since I got him in 2001, I have never benched him when uninjured no matter how bad the matchup. But this week he has a bad matchup, and I don't think he's the player he once was, so he's going on the bench. FF tends to be about playing the percentages, because very few players are consistently the best, week after week. But an individuals' performance in anygiven week, can vary quite a bit.

Never Bench Your Studs!

is a phrase you'll never hear me promoting.

I think you play the players you think are likely to score the most.

Sometimes (due to injury, matchups, etc...) that's not a stud like LT.

Sorry, I guess I was adressing two seperate posters and positions there. Please let me clarify.Yes I agree with you. Playing percentages is what makes good coaches look better. I cannot recall a time when I would have benched LT because of matchup. That time it apears is comming. Soon. Very soon. Just not for my team it has few options at RB.I disagree with all of the 'sky is falling' people. I don't think LT is all used up. I might be wrong. I might find out soon. Very soon. If the ride is over then I regrett only getting the chance to own him 3 times in his long career.

I am considering benching him also. I just recently acquired him and last week was his first start for me. Pittsburgh is my defense and I really dislike this match-up for LT. I think the Chargers get killed in the trenches here. Rivers will spend a large part of his time picking his ### up off of the ground. The only hope for LT is if Rivers can dump it to him as he's getting blitzed and then LT can rip one off. Unfortunately, my other match-ups aren't great. My other choices are Grant @ Chi, McGahee @ NYG and Rhodes @ Hou. I'd love to hear that Addai is out.

I am thinking about it. I have Portis and Turner going now. I think Portis will play vs Dallas so it will come down to Calvin or LT at the flex. I have played LT and Portis all year with Turner filling in for byes as my flex.................It's going to be very tough to bench LT knowing SD needs this game and may run him quite often vs that Steelers D anyway.

In 3 games against Pittsburgh, LT is:

53/189 and 3 TDs. His most recent game was a paltry 13/36 with 0 TDs (2006).

No RB this year has a => 4.00 ypc average with more than 10 carries against Pittsburgh. Only one of those guys has a TD. Clearly, this is a terrible week to start LT. I think I'm going with another option. As much as it pains me, I'm benching him. Looks like I'm starting Owen Daniels unless I can trade for Hightower.

They have completely shutdown the following RBs:

Clinton Portis

Brandon Jacobs

Steve Slaton

Willis McGahee

Jamal Lewis

Joseph Addai

Brian Westbrook
