Wes Welker (1 Viewer)

Welker seems very attainable right now, but with top secret operation up in New England, there is no way to know when this guy will play and / or be effective.

Anyone buying?

Anyone selling?

Anyone just ignoring for now?

I am torn.

Given that no one really knows what's wrong with him makes it tough to make a move for him. His situation reminds me of Marvin Harrison from a couple of years ago when MH was coming back that week only to be out for months. I'm not saying Welker will miss most of the season, only that the lack of info on his injury is quite annoying.

Based on Belichick's history of hiding or downplaying serious injuries, I would stay away from Welker right now.

I'd rather take a low-risk flyer on Edelman.

I am stacked at RB (MJD, SJax, Rice/McGahee) so I moved Caddy + Cotchery for Welker before week 3. Have Wayne as my #1 (only need to start 2) and have Driver/Sims-Walker in place until Welker is good to go.

he isn't worth even taking a chance on unless your league is ppr, imo.

too sketchy of an injury situation. he doesn't seem like a guy who would miss a game unless he is really f'd up. and he's missed 2, with an undisclosed knee injury. not only this, but, if your league isn't ppr, you'd have to expect him to have as good of a year as he had in '07 to have big value, and it doesn't look like there is a shot of that.

i think the Pat's offense will rally to an extent, but these aren't the 2007 Pats, and there are more reasons to believe that they won't be so this season than will.

I think he'll come back at some point this year, just no clue when that point will be.

I'm interested in trading for the guy...I offered Moreno to a team hurting at rb and was rejected.

"Those who risk win."

In a PPR league (start 2RB 3WR,) where I feel I am fairly stacked I made this trade today:

Gave: McGahee/S.Smith (CAR)

Got: C.Johnson(TEN)/Welker

I believe he will be back sooner rather than later. Of course IMO I got C. Johnson fairly cheap.

D.Williams / Rice Bench: Benson / McGahee

Fitzgerald / Smith / Cotchery Bench Royal / L. Robinson / Bryant

I am still trying to figure out how he was so effective in week 1 after being listed as Questionable ? He has a good game, then misses the next 2 games.

Seems like those who own here are holding, those who don't are passing.

Given the choice, and assuming a similar price - would you be more apt to go after a hamstrung Dwayne Bowe?

Similar scenario in that you are dealing with a team that will give zero info - and you have a leg injury to a receiver, though my sense is that Bowe's is not nearly as bad.

DUDE! I KNOW! This is exactly what has me so ticked about this. And he played GREAT that game!

I was also shocked when I saw Welker returning punts in the Bills game. It made me think Belichick was bluffing about Welker being injured. Now that he's missed two games in a row, it kinda pisses me off that BB would be dumbe enough to throw him in on special teams.

12 team, start 3 WR. 1 Pt PPR, 1 per 10, 6 per TD and minor Kick return points. I sold.

Gave up: Welker

Edelman

Hester

Got back: Calvin Johnson and garbage

Other team had serious WR issues, liked the thought of two starters.

I don't have the stomach for the "will he or won't he" situations. I'm choosing to avoid it for now.

This growing secrecy/misinformation campaign that is sweeping the country from the northeast bodes ill toward fantasy football. Combined with the union/owners negotiations, I fear we may look back at the past few seasons as the end of an era. Hope I'm wrong.

The only thing I can think of is that he may be having some swelling issues. He was getting in and out of his cuts in game one way too well for it to have been a serious injury. If I had to offer up a guess, and this is complete speculation on my part, I would say he had that knee scoped during preseason (given the time frame meniscus perhaps?) pushed it a little too hard in game one and got some fluid build up. If that is the case, a couple more weeks max and he should be back to 100%. I know the guy is tough, but I dont see any way possible that he could have played like that on any kind of significant knee injury. However, having had my knee scoped, I can definitely see how it could have balooned up on him afterward though. Thats the only scenario that makes sense to me.

Here's the problem with Welker though, and I'm with you on the "will he or won't he" situations, when he's healthy he's almost a guaranteed 10 points/week in standard scoring leagues and 15+ in PPR leagues. That makes this situation different than the Skeletor RB and Belicheck RB decisions. No "for sure" things there. IMO Welker is a stud in that you know he won't throw a clunker and kill your team. The leagues I have him in, I'm definitely holding. But in the leagues that I don't, I'm scared to make a trade for him just in case this issue lingers.

Welker practiced today, but on a limited basis. If it is that bad, he wouldn't be practicing at all. I think he will be fine. I think they were just being extra cautious.
