Wes Welker (1 Viewer)

So reports have him practicing in full and ready to go. Any homers here know if he's close to 100%? Or will the Pats be taking it easy on him?

He himself says he's not 100%. But the way he was already used in pre-season, I'd expect him to get plenty of work. My guess, he won't have much YAC, but will still see plenty of receptions.

I think I'm more down on Welker than anybody else in the Shark Pool, but even I'd start him over Gaffney without a moment's hesitation.

He will play. He won't be 100%, but he will get plenty of looks from Brady. Brady looks for Wes on key downs.

I think that he will surprise and I am playing him because I don't see a ton of defense on Sunday with the Bengals.

This from Rotoworld on Welker for week 1 game

Julian Edelman-WR- Patriots Sep. 10 - 4:47 pm et Patriots WR Julian Edelman (questionable, ankle) was limited in Friday's practice.Edelman doesn't appear to be healthy enough to be counted on for a major role, so Wes Welker should open the season as a full-time player. The Pats may have to throw plenty to move the ball against Cincinnati, and to atone for their lackluster defense. We can't imagine benching Welker in Week 1.Source: Boston Globe

Just the type of info I wanted to hear. Welker is starting for me.

Welker is a fine player, but Edelman will be breathing down his neck in the not-too-distant future. And the Pats are the kind of team who will trade an All-Star, get the goods, & promote from within (if the player is good enough, & Edelman is). That's just good business (again, if the replacement player is good enough).

Edelman was one of the best draft picks in recent memory, IMO (in relation to the round he was drafted & taking his college situation into account). Great scouting job by the Pats.

I believe Edelman will be a Pro-Bowler in the exact same role Welker is playing, & doing it much cheaper. What he's accomplished after playing QB his whole college career has been incredible.

Putting him in as WR #3 over H.Ward catching passes from Dixon vs Atlanta. I just think in PPR he's a borderline #2 and will be a #1b soon enough.

Welker is a robot he will probably have 10 catches for 100 yards. I am starting him in all my PPR leagues I have him in.

Nobody recovers from the surgery he had in less than a year. We won't see him until Thanksgiving, and even then he will only be a shell of his former self.

/sarcasm

:lmao: I can only imagine the work ethic Welker exhibited to get where he is today after that injury; and for Welker to get where he is in the NFL despite his size and draft position. Determination coupled with work ethic is an incredible combination. Jerry Rice was determined to prove everyone wrong who said he was too slow and from too small a college program, and Walter Payton (like Rice) refused to let anybody outwork him in the offseason. Welker's got a lot of those qualities in him.

Just remember what the haters say: Nobody comes back this fast after an ACL.

...and thank you to all my league for leaving him for me in the mid rounds.

Played Moss and Welker today. So glad I didn't change my mind on Welker.

Every site prediction had him at WR 35-50 this week. He'll end up near the top.

Go with your gut!!!
