Westbrook Sprains Foot (1 Viewer)

Rovers

Footballguy
Brodrick Bunkley participated in his first workout Tuesday; however Brian Westbrook did not. The Eagles' running back sat out with a foot sprain -- it's not the foot he hurt last year and it's not a Lis Franc sprain. Meanwhile, receiver Reggie Brown suffered a strained calf in the morning workout

That blurb is on the Eagles official site....

Westbrooks off season injuries coincide with practices surprisingly often. Theyre sitting him down. After the series against Oakland, why risk him practicing? Did Westy look like he needed any reps?

LJ Smith is creeping up my TE list.
LJ Smith will be big this year. With TO gone, I think LJ will become McNabb's primary outlet.I think the Eagles will bounce back in a big way this year. The return of team harmony sans Owens will make a big difference. That offense is still that offense. It was good before TO got there, and it will be good again. And LJ Smith will be one of the primary beneficiaries. And yes I know, shhhhhh.

I think LJ's being overhyped. Is he really better off without TO stretching the field and taking the coverage off him? I dont think so. Nobody is going to bother to double cover any of the Eagles WRs, McNabb doesnt run anymore, so I dont see LJs role changing much. I think he is valued about right considering his injury history.

I wonder if anyone has a break down of LJ Smith's targets when TO was playing with the Eagles in 2005 vs. after he was banned from the team in 2005?Curious if LJ's targets increased noticeably, or whether they remained pretty similar.

What information would you hope to gain from that considering that McNabb was gone two weeks after Owens and McMahon/Detmer were the QBs.

Westbrook is too fragile to waste an early round pick on.

what injury history? the one game he missed in 3 years?

The Eagles' offenses' reliance on the TE once the dominant WR leaves.

He always seems to be on the injury report week in and week out, but he does play. Seems like a player you would expect to ply for Belicheck.

Last year: "Reid described his playbook as having WR Terrell Owens as the player with the most dedicated plays. RB Brian Westbrook was second, and Smith was third on his list." With Owens gone, and RBrown still relatively unproven, Smith (4th yr) should see a slight increase in targets. IIRC Smith was on pace for top 5 in TE targets & ff points before McNabb went down.

Wow ... I thought this was the Westbrook & Brown injury thread? How did we get to LJ Smith projections from there?

As an Eagle fan & Westy owner, this foot injury scares the heck out of me. The Eagles have been characteristically quiet about his status, refusing to say anything more than "sprained foot", and that it's the other foot from the one that ended last season.

http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/15225975.htm

For those who remember, he was the 3rd Philly player to have a Lis Franc, following Duce & Dawkins. All 3 previous cases were originally handled in this same manner. It was only after XRays revealed additional damage that they had to stick the player on the shelf.

Is this a minor tweak? Considering we didn't see any mention of it during the game, probably so. But the dearth of information should at least be cause for concern in our circles.

RB Westbrook Wearing Boot Cast

Scott Bomboy, NBC10.com - [Full Article]

The Eagles confirmed RB Brian Westbrook has a foot injury and will miss at least the Cleveland Browns pre-season game. In a brief note, the Eagles Web site reported that Westbrook has a "foot sprain" and it is not a Lis Franc injury. Coach Andy Reid said Westbrook would definitely not play Thursday night. But there was no official mention of the boot, which is used to immobilize an injury. The boot or inflatable cast could be a big deal. Or the Eagles could be extra cautious. But the site of Westbrook wearing a boot has to scare Eagles fans.

Any of you Eagles fans have an update on Moats? I have him as a keeper in the 11th on a 12 teamer this year and have followed him through HS and college. That guy has serious potential if he can stay healthy (his stats were great from the games he started last year).

Westbrook dealing with more foot issues

ESPN reports Philadelphia Eagles RB Brian Westbrook (foot) will be sidelined indefinitely with a foot injury.

I think he is back at practice.

Costly 6 rushes for 36 yds and a TD. They want to run it more, but the main reason they passed it more to him was for the sole reason of him not having to take so much punishment. Many thought he couldn't be a true featured back. Granted it looks as though it's not serious, but one time out and already an injury isn't good.

Eagles | Injury update: R. Moats

Published Tue Aug 8 11:04:00 p.m. ET 2006

(KFFL) Ashley Fox, of the Philadelphia Inquirer, reports Philadelphia Eagles RB Ryan Moats (knee) worked out Tuesday, Aug. 8, although he did not participate in the contact drills toward the end of practice. Neither Moats nor head coach Andy Reid would say whether he would play in the team's preseason game Thursday, Aug. 10. "I don't want to hurt myself," Moats said.

RB Westbrook Shutdown For Pre-Season?

Bob Grotz, Delaware County Times - [Full Article]

Eagles RB Brian Westbrook likely will miss the next two preseason games while his sprained foot heals, and could be shut down until the Sept. 7 season opener. "He stretched the ligaments in there a bit and sprained the foot, so we’ve got to wait until that heals," Reid said. "That normally takes a little time, so he definitely won’t be ready this week and it will be a struggle for him to get back next week."

So, assuming he misses all of the preseason, I don't feel all that comfortable spending a 2nd round pick on him. I'd take him in the early 3rd maybe, but he'll probably be gone at that point.

i don't see a reason why he should play again in the preseason. the eagles know what he can do on the field, so why risk aggravating the sprain?

I tend to agree. IIRC, the initial diagnosis last year was a sprained foot, too, then later they did more testing and diagnosed the Lis Franc.

Is it at all possible to build a superior Eagles RB out of the healthy parts of the current Eagles RB's?

Have my first draft tonight, PPR league with 5th pick in a 10 teamer....first Portis, now this...FWIW, I'd roll the dice on him in the second, but doubt he'll get there.....I agree with Simey (Hi!), that there is no reason for him to see the field again in wexhibition play.

Yeah, I'm not saying he should play in preseason, but it just makes it that much harder for us as FF guys to gauge how healthy he was. If he played the last preseason game and looked great with no pain, I'd have no worries and definitely take him in the 2nd.

August 17, 2006, 09:08 Eagles :: RBRB Westbrook Improving?Reuben Frank, Bucks County Courier Times - [Full Article]HC Andy Reid said RB Brian Westbrook (stretched ligaments in foot) is improving. Westbrook, who was hurt in the preseason opener against the Raiders, won't play the rest of the preseason but is expected back for opening day. “He's doing a little bit more each day,” Reid said. “He's feeling pretty good.”

Westy COULD be ready for the next game, and I hear he'd likely be definitely ready for the last one, but at that point Reid will just hold him out.

Watch for when he practices.

Moats should play tonight.

it's been almost a week since the last post...any Philly homers have any news on Westbrook? He fell late in the 3rd in a draft I had last night with several guppies....I took him happily. Is he practicing?

Has not practiced yet. But I am totally unconcerned. He doesn't need it. He'll be ready to rock week 1. That is all the team cares about at this point.
