Westbrook's brother: 'Injury is serious'

Redskins practice squad CB Byron Westbrook, the younger brother of Brian, says his sibling's injury is more serious than the Eagles have let on.

"I don't think he'll play (in Week 5)," Byron said. "You know how (Eagles coach) Andy Reid is about injuries and giving out information. (Brian Westbrook) is a warrior and it's an NFC East game and he wants to play, but it's also early in the season and it's not a playoff game." Brian practiced some Wednesday, but looks like a game-time decision at best for Week 5. Oct. 2 - 12:46 pm et

What does the Grandma have to say about the injury?

A report in the Washington Post says Byron hasn't talked to Brian since Sunday. So, Byron's comments probably aren't based on something Brian told him.

I had a feeling this quote was going to get posted. The article is from Wednesday, and as dgreen said they spoke last Sunday. Also, I find it hard to believe that Brian would give an opposing team a serious update about his injury. We'll see what happens, but I wouldn't put too much stock into this.

I'm not sure, but Brian's uncles' cousins stepdaughter called a friend of my friend's and told them that an email came across their desk from a former employer that said something to the tune of "Brians ankle hurts and he may or may not play on sunday". I think they might be onto something.

I think you'll find that info came from Brian's/Byron's other brother named Bryant.

Brandon...or maybe it was Braylon.

I heard it was so bad that he fell over at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

Hmmm, surprised to see that Buckhalter is still sitting on the wire in my ppr league. Might be time to dump Chris Perry with the mess that's going on in Cincy.

I just saw the injury for the first time today and he was off both of his feet and landed really strange on his toes and it almost looked like his ankle folded. Add in that Westbrook himself even said it feels like a High Ankle Sprain. Isn't like a 4-6 week injury?

If the injury was more serious then the Eagles are putting on... then Brian would have never warmed up and tried to play last Sunday... and he sure as hell wouldn't have participated in practice yesterday.

Hmmm. Practice squad player with superstar older brother. I guess you gotta get your name out there somehow. :lmao:

LOOK AT ME I GET THE JOKE TOO!

Here are some of Brian's comments yesterday after practice:

Are you feeling encouraged so far this week?

I'm definitely encouraged. The truth is I've gotten better everyday. Like last week you try to get better every day and at the end of the week you see how close you are to 100% and if you're close you play and if you're not you have to take the week off.

Are you more optimistic this week then you were last week at this time?

Yeah. The injury is a week older, another week of rehab for me. By the time Sunday comes around... I'm definitely more optimistic than I was last week.

How close are you to actually practicing?

I'm close. I'm getting closer daily. I did a little bit during the walkthrough and I think that's the first step to getting where you can practice fully. We're taking it slow. You don't want to have anything where you could re-injure it or make it worse than what it is.
Doesn't seem like a guy with a really bad injury to me.LINK

The latest from Rotoworld.

A scout told Jason La Canfora of the Washington Post that Brian Westbrook (ankle) was unable to "cut at all and looked rather hobbled" while going through pre-game warmups before Sunday night's clash at Chicago.

Westbrook, of course, was inactive. There are mixed signals on his potential to play in Week 5, but you can count on him being a game-day decision against the Redskins. If he can't go, Correll Buckhalter will start again.

not much there.

:goodposting: I'd take this with a big grain of salt, not so much because I'm worried about deception as because I think Byron is speculating and Brian isn't going to tell him anything during the week before their game against each other. FYI, Byron plays his brother on the Redskins scout team before the Philly games, so Brian has no reason to help him.

I think there is cause for concern especially when only 4 days ago, Westbrook was hobbling and could NOT make cuts.I wouldn't take this one lightly.Dude isn't exactly young anymore.

I think brother is trying to use some disinformation tactics. Why else would he be mouthing off?
Mouthing off? I assume he was asked a direct question about his brother. This week and the next time they play Philly are pretty much the only two times a year Byron is asked questions by the media. The media probably requested to talk to him this week and then asked him about his brother. And he answered with his opinion.

PPR?If so, I'll gladly give you "studs" tomorrow for a championship today.

Westbrook practiced with the first team today.

Good call Byron.
Headlines Westbrook limited again in Thursday's session

Brian Westbrook practiced on a "limited" basis for the second consecutive day Thursday.

There are more signs pointing to Westbrook not facing Washington in Week 5. He will either be listed as questionable or doubtful on Friday's injury report, likely depending on how much he does in the Eagles' final practice of the week. Don't be counting on him playing in the 1:00PM ET game. Oct. 2 - 3:57 pm et

It would seem obvious to me that they would keep him limited all week. The fact that he is practicing at all, would lead me to believe that he is playing. If all signs were pointing to him not playing... why would they even bother sending him out on the practice field to possibly make it worse? Why wouldn't they just let him stay off of his ankle until he could play? Of course they are going to keep him limited... it isn't as if he doesn't know the offense.

Game planning nowadays is complex enough where coaches tend to demand that their players at least participate in the Friday practice before being cleared to play on Sunday. I don't know Reid's policy in this regard, and some coaches are willing to make exceptions for veteran players, but I don't think we can just bank on this speculation right now, one way or the other.

The Philadelphia Daily News reports that Eagles RB Brian Westbrook appeared to be doing everything with the first-team offense Thursday after being listed as limited on Wednesday

(Rotoworld) Eagles coach Andy Reid said after Thursday's practice that Brian Westbrook (ankle) "looked real good out there."

Analysis: Westbrook went through a limited workout. "We're throwing him in there a little bit more each day," Reid said. "We'll give him a little bit more tomorrow. We're just being smart with it and adding something every day."

I remember more than one week last year and I think the year before where Westy didn't practice a single day and put up monster numbers on Sunday. I am not saying he will play this week, but if I were a betting man I would bet on "yes".

Next week it's 4:15, so I hope the matter is clear well before then.

I would take that with a grain of salt coming from Reid.

well how about if marty says it ???PHILADELPHIA (AP) — All-Pro running back Brian Westbrook practiced for the second straight day Thursday, and the injured Eagles appear to be getting a little healthier.Westbrook again participated in a limited fashion after sitting out last week with an ankle injury sustained in a Week 3 win over Pittsburgh, but his coaches were encouraged with his progress. The Eagles host Washington in an NFC East matchup on Sunday."He looked better," offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said. "He went through the walk through this morning and looked better. He's day to day, and we'll see."

PLAYER NOTES

—RB Brian Westbrook did some light practicing Wednesday on his injured ankle. There's a good possibility he'll be able to play this week against the Redskins.

—TE L.J. Smith returned to practice Wednesday after missing last week's game with a back injury. He will play Sunday.

—DE Victor Abiamiri, who missed the first four games after having August surgery to repair a dislocated wrist, had the screws removed from his wrist Wednesday and is expected to be cleared to practice soon. He won't play this week, but could be ready for next week's game against San Francisco.

—RG Shawn Andrews saw a specialist Wednesday about his injured back. Andrews has missed the last two games and won't play this week either.

—G Max Jean-Gilles will make his third straight start at RG Sunday in place of injured Shawn Andrews.

lol at the optimism here. He's going through the walk through fellas. He still can't cut on it....it's thursday. He may look "better" than last week but I would think he'd have to be able to practice full go before they put him. Of course the coaches are going to say he's looking better so that Was has to prepare for him. He brings a whole new off package to the table that no other RB on the Eagles can.

Eagles Notebook: Injured Eagles report progress

By LES BOWEN

Philadelphia Daily News

bowenl@phillynews.com

Brian Westbrook was limited in practice, but seemed to expect to play Sunday against the Redskins. L.J. Smith practiced fully and said he was "just fine." Shawn Andrews didn't practice, but said he is more optimistic about his back after seeing a specialist yesterday.

It was a pretty good day, injurywise, down at NovaCare. You would have preferred to have seen Westbrook running around, cutting like a Brad Lidge slider, and you would rather Andrews' back troubles had cleared up as nicely as Pat Burrell's seemed to, but those outcomes never seemed likely going into yesterday on the less-populated side of Broad and Pattison. The fact that there was progress represented, well, progress.

"It went well, it went well," Westbrook said afterward. "It went as well as could be expected."

Earlier, Westbrook said he was "definitely encouraged . . . definitely more optimistic than I was last week" about being able to play on his strained right ankle. Of course, until he is able to practice in full, it's hard to say how well-placed that optimism might be. Quarterback Donovan McNabb - who also was limited in practice, because of his bruised chest - said he expected having Westbrook available against the Redskins.

benching westy..even at 80% he will not do much against Wash.Rest him..make him better for rest of season!
Agreed. I'm in a conundrum in one league. As my flex I have the choice of: Westy/Buckhalter/Breaston. Not going to be an easy choice come Sunday morning.I'm a Cowboys fan, but I think it'd be very prudent of the Eagles to rest him one more week and make sure he's healthy and not be at 80% and have it linger, but

Westbrook predictions:70 rushing60 receiving1-2 TDBench him if you want, but I'm not. I've been a Westbrook owner now for 4 years in a row and I have seen this at least once every season. I know to never doubt this guy. Rain, hail, sleet or snow, injured ankle, knee, back, or whatever .... when he's on the field, he is a stud and produces. Period. Also, the NFL uses some stuff before games called Cortizone. Its an amazing drug. :goodposting:

And Westbrook usually kills the Skins. If he's going to play, then start him.

Honestly, you don't really seem to know a whole lot here. Cutting isn't "his whole game." He's actually a pretty decent power runner for a guy his size and has great straight line speed. Yeah, he is great at cutting and making guys miss, but it's not his whole game. Also, you keep posting the same quote from Sunday. It's now quite a few days later and he's been making a lot of progress. Go ahead and hide your head in the sand, but so far it looks like Westbrook will probably play this week.
