Westbrook's foot still bothering him (1 Viewer)

Brian Westbrook admits his foot is still bothering him."I'm trying to get my feet up under me right now...trying to get my conditioning back," he said. "Most of the pain is gone." Westbrook, who returned to practice early last week, remains an injury risk heading to the season.Source: Trenton Times

Nothing in this article about his foot but...

Westbrook predicts a powerful offense

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Eagles running back Brian Westbrook has a vision of what the Eagles' offense will look like when the team opens the season a week from tomorrow in Houston.

It looks a lot like what you saw in 2003, when Westbrook teamed with Duce Staley and Correll Buckhalter to form the three-headed monster at running back.

Thats UGLY news for Westbrook owners.

I've carried Westbrook for three years now in a keeper league waiting for his upside to show.

All that continues are nagging - lingering injuries.

My keeper deadline has come and gone... this is the last year I'm keeping this undersized injury waiting to happen....

:lmao: You mean the year he was the #2 RB and still had 1,000 total yards and 11 TDs?

Westy still had 1000 total yards and 11 TDs that year, despite not being involved early in the year, and despite playing with two much better RBs than they'll have him sharing with this year.

Well, with this news, and tehlingering foot injury, I'd want nothing to do with Westy this season...I 'll have to thank the GM ahead of me in the draft for taking Westy, so that I could have Steve Smith waiting for me :)

Not sure how the situations are dissimilar. Smith has a bum hammy and toe, and Keyshawn, Drew Carter, and a healthy Keary Colbert to share with this year.

From that article:

Westbrook is also excited about the return of Buckhalter, who has missed the last two seasons because of knee surgery. Neither Buckhalter nor Westbrook played last night.

"It's been a long time coming, and I think Buck deserves everything he's going to get this year," Westbrook said. "He's worked very hard. To see him improve from that first week he played to that second game he played, he made leaps and bounds of improvement."
Sounds eerily like a RBBC.2003 rushing stats:

Player No Yds Avg Long TD

Brian Westbrook 117 613 5.2 62 7

Correll Buckhalter 126 542 4.3 64 8

Duce Staley 96 463 4.8 22 5

EDIT TO ADD:

From that same article:

If Westbrook is right and this Eagles team is similar to the one in 2003, the running game will be vastly improved. With the three-headed monster in the backfield, the Eagles ranked ninth in the NFL with 2,015 rushing yards, fourth in yards per rushing attempt at 4.83, and second in rushing touchdowns with 23.

Those numbers were a stark contrast to last season, when the Eagles ranked 28th in rushing yards (1,432), 17th in yards per rush (3.92), and 20th in rushing touchdowns with 11.

"Like everybody has seen last year and a little bit the year before, the passing numbers have been so high... and it's hard to win in the NFL like that," Westbrook said. "For us as a team, we have to try to get those numbers almost as even as possible just so we have the double threat."

So what's the official word out of Philly, re: week 1? Is Westbrook expected to start? And if not, is Buckhalter worth the start?M

I'm surprised that as far as I know no one made mention of Marshalls Faulks' comments on the NFL channel about 2 weeks ago when he wondered if Westbrook could be out for the year. He said he hoped he was not right but really felt someting was wrong with him. Marshall is no doctor and might not even have had a discussion with Westbrook which makes it all speculation but as an ex NFL RB and a guy many consider one of the smartest players to ever play the game it's enough to concern me.

Your post is a waste of space. There have been numerous players become succesfull in the booth. It was obvious quickly that Montana and Lott were horrible. It's obvious Jerry Rice for instance is horrible. Have you even watched Marshall in the studio? He's the best hire the NFL Network has made. He's also been considered one of the smartest guys to ever play the game as I said earlier while Montana was Joe Cool and Lott was fearsome I never heard that said about them.

Everything I've seen would indicate Buckhalter, as long as he's healthy.I'd be worried if I were a Westbrook owner. He misses the last four games last year with a Lis Franc (foot) sprain, and now he has another foot injury. This doesn't sound good.

Just sounds like a guy being humble. I can't beleive people are dissecting this guys quote. What did you want him to say "I am Brian Westbrook the most talented offensive player on the team and I and only I am going to get the ball". What a weird post. First there is no link saying anything about his foot bothering him, then Marshall Faulks worthless analysis, and then we are going to dissect a Westbrook quote.

Does anyone know has Westbrook been practicing or is he still running in a pool? If he is still working out in a pool how is going to start the season?

Look Westbrook has been on the practice field since Monday.. On Monday or Tuesday he said he was like 85 percent.... He has about 12 days from then to the start of the season to be close to 100 percent... Reid had said earlier on, that Westbrook would be more involved.. What I see for Westbrook is like 70 percent of the carries with Bulkhalter getting 30... Now Westbrook averages about 5.0 yards a carry to begin with so what does this mean... If healthy Westbrook should still put up solid #2 numbers....and thats where I have him as my number 2

Do you have a link backing any of this up. The last thing I read was that he was running in a pool.

Don't get me wrong Westbrook plays all season and he could be top 5. The WR's in Philly are horrible and they are going to have to lean on him heavily if they really want to win. Andy Reid does not run the ball enough that is why Westbrook is the only RB worth having on that team since he catches well.

Westbrook returns to backfield in transitionBy LES BOWENbowenl@phillynews.comJeremiah Trotter joked that when he saw Brian Westbrook yesterday, "I thought we signed a new player."Westbrook didn't do that much in practice, but just seeing Donovan McNabb's No. 1 weapon actually on the field was noteworthy; Westbrook hadn't worn an Eagles uniform since he and the first-team offense left after one series in the Hall of Fame game in Canton, Ohio, on Aug. 6.The assumption around the team lately has been that the Eagles were just being careful with Westbrook, who sprained his left foot during that one series against the Raiders. Westbrook suffered a season-ending Lisfranc sprain to his right foot last Dec. 5. Yesterday, when Westbrook spoke with reporters for the first time since being injured, it was clear that his absence has been more than precautionary. Westbrook said he expects to be ready for the Sept. 10 season opener, but added that "I still have a long way to go." Then he amended that to "I still have a little way to go."Regardless, he isn't yet fully healed. Eagles coach Andy Reid guessed his top running back (who might also be his top receiver) might be "80 or 85 percent" back to normal; Westbrook didn't want to give a figure."I'm trying to get my feet up under me right now, trying to get my conditioning back," he said.He said his foot "feels good... most of the pain is gone."The Eagles' running back corps looks very different from the last time Westbrook practiced. Back then, it seemed likely 2005 third-rounder Ryan Moats and 2004 seventh-rounder Bruce Perry were going to shoulder a decent bit of the load. Correll Buckhalter was way off in the distance somewhere, nowhere close to proving he could return from three knee surgeries in 4 years. Reno Mahe was Reno Mahe.Only the last part of that summary remains unchanged. Moats seems to be struggling with the offense again, as he did his rookie year. Both he and Perry seem to have fumbled enough to lose the coaches' trust. Perry now seems unlikely to make the team. Buckhalter, meanwhile, has been a revelation. He practiced with the first team yesterday and looked sharp, in the wake of a strong performance Friday against the Steelers.Reid still won't acknowledge that Buckhalter now is his main complement to Westbrook, or even that Buckhalter seems likely to make the team. But it was clear the coach was impressed after watching the tape of Friday's game."The positive thing I saw, that I hadn't seen the week before, was that immediate change of direction and the ability to get it upfield fast when he saw and his eyes reacted to the play," Reid said. "The week before, I thought his eyes reacted to the play, I didn't think his feet did. This week, I felt like both of them were working together and he ran hard and aggressive."It seems likely the team wants to see even more progress from Buckhalter in Friday's final preseason game. Westbrook, meanwhile, is unlikely to play Friday. It might be a concern that he won't have played in more than a month when the season begins, but as Westbrook acknowledged yesterday, he has come back from injury before, he knows the routine."I know how to get back into shape," he said. "I know what it takes for me to perform on Sunday with this offense. I know I'm going to have to be able to run routes, I know I'm going to have to be able to carry the ball and come back the next play and be fresh enough to do the same thing again."I want to get my timing down, but the conditioning is the biggest thing. I want to go into the first game ready to play, being able to carry the ball and not being tired during the game."Westbrook said a Raider fell on his heel during that one series on Aug. 6. He finished the series and didn't think he was significantly injured, he said, until his body cooled down and his foot stiffened.Westbrook thinks footwear has played a role in his foot injuries; he said he now wears reinforcement in his soles.

Posted on Tue, Aug. 29, 2006email thisprint thisreprint or license thisWestbrook is welcomed back to practiceBy Marc NarducciInquirer Staff WriterEagles coach Andy Reid was six questions into his news conference yesterday when he recalled something that had slipped his mind."I should have added that Brian Westbrook is going to practice," Reid said casually.Reid probably was much more excited when he heard the news than when he delivered it.The Birds' top running back has been sidelined since suffering a sprained left foot on Aug. 6 in the preseason opener against the Oakland Raiders.During yesterday afternoon's practice at the NovaCare Complex, Westbrook seemed to run freely. He took part only in individual drills, but it was a positive sign."It feels good," said Westbrook, arguably the Eagles' most important offensive weapon other than Donovan McNabb. "I had a chance to get back here and getting used to being in football shape."Reid said Westbrook was 80 to 85 percent recovered. The 26-year-old running back said that most of the pain is gone from his foot."I'm not sure yet," Westbrook said when asked how close to 100 percent he is. "... I still have a little way to go."Both Reid and Westbrook said they expect him to play in the Eagles' regular-season opener Sept. 10 against the Texans in Houston.Westbrook missed the final four games of last season when he suffered a Lisfranc sprain of his right foot. Naturally, when he injured the other foot, there was concern. In 12 games last season, Westbrook rushed for 617 yards and three touchdowns. He also caught 61 passes for 616 yards and four touchdowns. On Sunday, Westbrook went through a workout under the guidance of Reid. During training camp, Reid also put rehabilitating running back Correll Buckhalter (knee) through four workouts before proclaiming him ready to practice.Westbrook took his share of good-natured ribbing upon his return."I saw him a few minutes ago and I thought we signed a new player," linebacker Jeremiah Trotter said before practice.Westbrook laughed."The guys love to have fun and joke around," he said. "But it feels good to be back here and I'm sure everybody is happy that I'm back out here.""Just his presence on the field completely changes the game," Trotter said. "And I am almost positive it changes Andy's play-calling because he can do so many things with him."It is likely that no one was more pleased than McNabb."It's always good when you have your firepower coming back," the quarterback said of Westbrook, who made the Pro Bowl after the 2004 season. "I think we all know the significance of what Brian plays in this offense as well as on this team."Reid indicated that Westbrook probably would not play in Friday's preseason finale at Giants Stadium against the New York Jets."I don't think I need it particularly," Westbrook said. "It is something I could do, but it is still up to Coach Reid."The running back said he believes he has found a solution to his foot woes. "I put stiffeners in the shoe to make the sole a little bit more stiff," he said. Now he is ready to look ahead."I still think I want to get my timing down, but conditioning is the big thing," Westbrook said. "I want to go in the first game ready to play, being able to carry the ball and not being tired."

He misses the last four games last year with a foot sprain, he's having problems with the foot this preseason ... I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that he'll be fine this season.

Heres the thing with Westbrook if your expecting him to be a #1 your screwed... Now if you start 2 rbs and hes your number 2, I beleive you have yourself a top #2 back that will perform like a #2 should....

Its not the same foot he sprained this time around.... Yes hes a reward risk type of guy.... But if you have him as a #2 theres alot of risk after the top 12 backs has ben selected to begin with.. Now heres the thing if Westbrook goes down and you have the Bulkhalter Handcuff then you still have a decent back

Why not jump to conclusions? Haven't you heard; Portis will be hampered all season, Ward's hammy will linger all year, etc. Lots of doctors/trainers on this board.

I agree Watch out for Steve Smith,To,Portis,Westbrook,Hines Ward, All who have minor injuries and all shoudl be ready to go week 1... Portis is the only one that im worried about for week 1...... Were not Doctors here.... is there a chance any of these guys can pull a hammy or reaggravate there injury yes..... No one knows...Why not jump to conclusions? Here's my .02

Westbrook is a playmaker. IMO he is a top 5 POINTS PER GAME RB this year in PPR leagues. The question becomes how many games?

Buckhalter will be a nice between the tackles change of pace as long as his knees stay re-constructed. 8-10 carries a game and short yardage opportunities. A season like 2003 where he vultured 8 TD's on just around 120 carries is likely IMO. This role does not change if Westbrook is injured.

Moats is Westbrooks backup, and will be third in line on a week to week basis if all Eagles are healthy. His skill set, a fast runner with excellent hands, translates well when replacing Westbrook's role in the offense. I firmly believe Buckhalter remains in his 8-10 carry, between the tackles, short yardage role if Westy is out.

Philly doesn't need two backs with the same skill set week to week, so Buckhalter would be the second back in the gameplan, and get those touches. But if Westbrrok was hurt all his touches go to Moats.

I think Bulkhalter will not be the goalineback... I think they go with whoever is in there at the time.. If its bulkhalter then he stays in if its Westy he stays in!

That goes both ways. I'm not saying Westbrook's going to be affected by this all year, but that you can't assume he'll be fine once the season starts. If Buckhalter's healthy (and he appears to be), I can see him cutting significantly into Westbrook's carries early on.

Why not jump to conclusions? Haven't you heard; Portis will be hampered all season, Ward's hammy will linger all year, etc. Lots of doctors/trainers on this board.

Moats only plays if Westrook can't. I think CBuck is a better pure RB where Westbrook is the better receiver. I think you're gonna see a lot of CBuck in the backfield and Westbrook outside. Moats is Westbrook insurance.

I dont know if Bulk is the better back.. in 03 Bulk averaged 4.3 while Westy I believe averaged 5.2.... In the first Preseason game Westy looked awesome..I think Westy will be involved this year like in no other year in Phillys offense.. Now will Bulk get carries yes but not enough to get worried about it...

:goodposting: My take also. You will see Buck weekly in Philly's gameplan. Moats is bench until a Westbrook injury opens up the door. However, if it does, I can see him getting more touches than Buckhalter. Skill set translates into what Philly wants to do.

Chill Francis. His OTHER foot is injured. Westy didn't aggrevate or reinjure the same foot in the HOF game.I have Westy in two leagues already (PPR type) & hope to get him in a 3rd draft next week. When the kid plays, he is money. 1200 yards and 7 TDs last year in 12 games is 1st round RB material. With the injury fear running rampant, I think he can be had later than his value dictates.

I also agree.
