What are the top 3 issues that you care about? (3 Viewers)

I don’t know specifically what you are referencing but most times when these type things are said, the flaws as they see it are the very basis of federalism. It’s not that our democracy isn’t working, it’s not giving absolute power to some group who desires it. No election has been stolen. Not from Trump and not from Abrams.
While roadkill1292 has my intellectual respect, he's a progressive straight out of 1910 with respect to the structure of the Constitution. He does not respect its structure and seeks to federalize and make bureaucratic powers more far-reaching, if my reading of his past stuff is any indication.

It's straight out of the Woodrow Wilson playbook, minus the Women's Christian Temperance Union and the racism.

I was driving home from the beach last night and listened to a lot of the late night news talk on Sirius while the kids were asleep.  CNN and MSNBC both had people on bemoaning the Senate and states having two representatives, the electoral college etc.  It's what our country was founded on.  Promoting to try to do away with those items is essentially the very thing many on the left accused the Trump administration of, disregarding the Constitution.

There was one guest on bemoaning the Democrats issues with rural voters.  You know, Republicans have had problems for years with voters of color. Nobody should feel sorry for either of the parties, they need to do a better job of winning over voters, not trying to change the system that is our foundation to get the results they desire.

I was laughing when the professor they had on was explaining why the Senate is wrong etc.  My wife looks over at me and I told her, the states will never give up those power without another civil war.  Unless someone wants to fight it, which I don't think anyone truly is, it's fruitless to have those discussions.  Although sadly we are closer to that than at any time I can recall.

Agreed about the structures and the MSNBC/progressive crowd. It's not only in a name, it's in an ideology, this progressive way of life. They've been looking to "streamline" and "mainstream" our structures in a more Continental European way for about a hundred years plus.

Here's an interesting passage. I usually don't post Twitter quotes, so I'll simply link there if you'd like. It's Alexander Bickel, writing about the structures of our government bequeathed by common law and our Constitution. It's more of an op-ed declaration, but I agree with him.

Well, no, it's not the same at all.  Trump attempted to subvert the Constitution through illegal and violent means.  The Democrats are attempting to change the Constitution through methods enshrined in the Constitution itself (amendments, legislation).  There's a massive difference.

Whether or not such changes are a good idea, whether or not they'll be successful, and whether or not it's good politics/messaging are a different story, but it is not "the same".

I'm tracking the answers in a spreadsheet - if you replied with something like, "these would be mine" I just put you down for those 3.  I'm categorizing them as best as I can.

Couple of thoughts/questions:

  • If somebody says (and this is an example) "Stopping Abortion" and someone else says "Keeping Abortion Legal" I'm grouping them both under Abortion.  My thinking is the topic is of importance to someone regardless of the side they take.  That applies to several things that people have mentioned but wanted to make the extreme example.  Thoughts?
  • I've tried to tone down the categories while still keeping the point - hoping to have good discussion and so far we have, IMO.  I did this to everyone so hopefully folks understand and agree.  I will share the full list in Google Sheets for anyone who wants to give feedback or just interested in the details.
Here's the clear Top 6 at the moment:

  • Economy - 12
  • Healthcare Reform - 12
  • Democratic Norms - 11
  • Climate / Environment - 9
  • COVID - 9
  • Crime - 7
Update?
